Non-complaint #1:  Yay, my car's windshield wipers are no longer insane.  I went out for my normal Tuesday uptown chores and the wipers behaved themselves the whole trip.  yes

Non-complaint #2:  Yay, my SS deposit will be available tomorrow and I'll be rich, rich, rich again (mwa ha ha).smiley  (For about an hour as I fritter it all away on bills, bills, bills.) frown

Non-complaint #3:  Speaking of "earworms" (well, I was anyway), I was listening to the radio this afternoon and have discovered a candidate for one.  Try this:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tzc5ti-03PI  It's 6 minutes of happy happy that you don't know the name of, by nobody you ever heard of, but is a piece that you have probably heard many times in your life somewhere.    It's the Scherzo from Henry Litolff's "Concerto Symphonique No. 4 in D minor " (Scherzo has several meanings but in this case means a short piece extracted from a larger composition, often the 3rd movement of a 4 movement piece such as symphony or sonata.  I, for one, never knew who wrote this and as of this moment do not yet have it in my extensive library but plan to remedy that situation almost immediately.

I see what you mean,  one of those little bits of music that you know but have never known the name of.   Thank You for telling me the name.   I shall probably remember it for     oooh  at least half an hour.

Just bought a new set of Rada knives. They're not expensive, the blades are paper-thin and razor sharp so I can make really thin slices, and they hold an edge forever.
Which makes them a pain to sharpen, but I don't have to do it often.

Aaand, the handles are aluminum, which means they turn a dark grey if you machine-wash them. I can live with that.
I love good tools, even if my idea of a gourmet meal is one where I've opened more that two cans.

I had an award winning chef tell me once that you shouldn't machine wash good quality knives because the alkaline level in dish washer powder is very high and can etch the blades and dull the edge.

That's what turns the aluminum grey.
Has no effect on the stainless steel blades, though.
Your chef probably used carbon steel knives.

It's a scherzo in situ too. I have a recording of the whole thing, one of Hyperion's set of Romantic Piano Concertos (they also have 3 and 5 on another CD).

Eventually the pan develops pan disease over much of the cooking surface.  I can see it.  It's like a slightly discolored glaze in patches on top of the ceramic.  I take care not to scratch the ceramic.  I use only plastic implements and cleaning scrubbies, and try not to scrub too vigorously but no amount of scrubbing with a plastic scrubbie removes the discolored glaze.   Yet, after about a year, the pan is such a pain in the butt to use that I retire it and get another.  sad  I've had this pan set for almost 6 years now.  I've replaced the 10 inch fry pan 3 times already and I'm beginning to fear that the company will eventually stop making this style and I'd have to (horrors) use a different style pan that doesn't match the rest of my set. (The only matching set I've ever had.)  I've already gone ahead and pre-bought one more brand new fry pan (my 4th) that will soon have to be pressed into service.

Most common vegetable oils (sunflower, safflower, sesame, corn, grape etc.) are drying or semi-drying oils, meaning that they oxidize, especially when heated, and create a hard layer which stick to the pan and can ruin even the best non-stick pans over time. Some oils like linseed and walnut oil dry very quickly and form a hard layer, that's why they're being used in oil paint.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drying_oil
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-drying_oil

Use non-drying oils instead, like coconut oil, they don't cause this problem. Peanut and olive oil should work as well if you don't like the taste of coconut oil, but I haven't tried them over a long time. Plain butter should work as well. There are several other alternatives listed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-drying_oil

I have used a sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution (the main ingredient in most oil paint removers for wood) to remove the hardened oil from ceramic and stainless pans, but be careful with aluminum pans as it attacks aluminum very agressively, while creating hydrogen which may cause an explosion. So if there is just a tiny hole in the ceramic layer it may start eating up the pan if it's made of aluminum. It doesn't attack stainless steel and iron though, at least not the types I've tried. Stainless pans often have an aluminum layer at the bottom though, in that case don't drop the whole pan into a NaOH solution, which you otherwise can if it's 100% stainless steel or cast iron.

Actually they use drying oils to prepare cast iron pans before use to make them less sticky, by rubbing them with oil and then heating them up to a very high temperature, but that creates a different, much harder layer than if you just use the oil for frying. But in any case it can't compete at all with a good ceramic pan, when it comes to non-stick. Personally I don't trust other than pure ceramic pans for non-stick - if teflon is overheated it releases fumes which can cause "teflon flu" in humans, and even kill birds. Ceramic pans are also much more resistant to scratches and overheating.

    Anyone having trouble logging in?

I tried to log in twice using my iPad’s password auto fill, but it was rejected... Then I tried three or four more times manually typing in the password and my email (correctly) and it kept rejecting it... when it finally accepted it, it took me to my account page where it had a little warning message “Account password required!”... uh... kinda late if someone is on my account page no?

Whatever... I’m sure it only happened to me.

I just a few minutes ago purchased both sets from Amazon.  And upon closer examination of my library, I found that I do currently have the Litolff's Scherzo on a CD that also includes some Rachmaninoff and Addensell's "Warsaw Concerto".  But now I'll have the complete Litolff work and also some other examples of his work.  So much music, so little time.  Groking classical music is a life long process with many thrills along the way.

Note:  The "Warsaw Concerto" was one of the few longish piano pieces I could play completely.  Very much fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eg0QEpXYmUw

Complaint:  Big snow commin' my way! no  I did some of my Tuesday uptown chores (prescriptions, groceries, gasoline, lunch, etc.) yesterday but skipped laundry figuring that I'd go on Saturday but the news this morning is that big storm coming here (south of Buffalo) this afternoon.  That means I'd have to dig my car out on Saturday and I HATE digging my car out.  So, I guess I'll bundle up (it's 20F out there) and go this morning while it's not yet snowing and the roads are clear.  I hate wasting gasoline (my budget limits me to 1 tank a month except when I splurge for a mini-adventure).  If I get that done then I can be a hermit over the weekend, drink hot chocolate, and watch the snowplows go by for at least a week before thinking about digging (ugh) my car out again.   indecision

Ooh, ooh, I just realized that if I do laundry this morning I can get to the uptown grocery store where they have those wonderful freshly made on-site donuts that I like so well.  Mmmm, hot chocolate AND donuts while watching snowplows go by. yes

Issue the hair I want for a G8M character I want in a scene I think needs a hair that I can only find for G8F.  I am having difficulty getting autofit to work on this hair.

  • Non-complaint:  Wheee..., snow has started, car is parked, laundry is done, pantry is stocked, refrigerator is full, donuts are on hand, hot chocolate is brewing, house is warm, new shows on NetFlix.  Chillin' and waiting for snowplows to go by. yes

Got a bit of a headache.  I was supposed to get off at 2:30 but got off around 2;45 which normally is not a big deal before when I took taxis home, but now I have to be ready when they pull up.  Of course I have not seen them and it is raining.  WiFi strength is not great it seems right here too.

  • Complaint:  Not sure if I should be relieved or disappointed. surprise The "big snow" predicted by one forecaster never showed up here.  In fact, there was a couple hours of flakes resulting in perhaps 1 and a half to 2 inches accumulation then it started to rain and today the weather has been in the 40sF all day.  Ground is nearly bare again. frown

Not sure if this a complaint or not, but I need to use some of the money I get this weekend for my Adobe subscription. I guess the complaint is that I need to use Photoshop more but hopefully I can do that with this G8M (and maybe also a G8F companion) project.

Complaint is that the Starbucks at the mall I worked at is now closed.  Well today was their last day.  I am going to miss them, but that might help me save money I think.

Another complaint, I asked a question via a support ticket last night but I was too vague so it did not get answered correctly.  Now I submitted a response with a better explination of what I meant.  Oops I forgot to post this post.  I am too distracted because I am doing too much at one time.

..sounds like what happened here in Portland a couple weeks ago when they were predicting another "snowpocalypse" here.

Now the local weather service is calling fo 8" - 12" on Monday.  We'll see how that pans out.   I think they just do this to help the local grocery chains out by getting everyone to go into panic buy mode.
