I was about to say “Oooh noooo... Yeah, you don’t wanna do that... or eat ———— or ———— or ———— (etc, etc)” but I kinda thought that through and figured if listed any of the things I was thinking, you might need the bucket again.

Keep mending and feel better soon.

  • Complaint:  Been snowing again all day.  Slowly, but has accumulated another 5 inches and is forecast to continue all night. sad  I've been inside, glancing out the window, drinking hot chocolate, and been glued to the TV spectacle that's been the talk of the day.

...looks like we've seen the last of frozen water from the sky here until next winter.  A minor dusting on the ground in the city centre early this morning and maybe an inch up in the West Hills but that's about it. The heaviest amounts remained in the Cascades and further east.

However, was very cold and windy in the city yesterday.

...well received my statement from Medicare on my December visit to the hospital.  Total for everything (transport, tests, scans, medications, overnight stay, physicians fees etc.) came to 17,500$ of which I "may be billed" a grand total of 38$ (for an insulin injection that wasn't related to the accident).  So one less Stonemason set in MM, yeah, no complaints there.

I got my iPad back today.  I left it at the mall yesterday and I got it back today.

Okay I left it at a repair shop, so all is well.

I feel inclined to watch something spooky and British, set in the Victorian era. Any suggestions? (Other than The Woman in Black, The Hound of the Baskervilles, or Penny Dreadful.)

BTW, has anyone watched The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix? Is it any good? I've recently listened to the audiobook, watched the 1963 movie, the 1999 movie (which is not really a remake, it just borrows the title and the setting), and now I want moar.

Complaint:  "My!  Things come and go so quickly here."  Not "here" in the forums, (well, that too) but "here" in the sea of time.  I did a Google search for my own name (which I hadn't done for several years) and up popped a new link to my college (Florida Institute of Technology).  Curiosity got the better of me and I went down the rabbit hole to see what was at the bottom.  Non-complaint: There, amongst various articles in a college newsletter was a comment I had made on an alumni questionnaire celebrating the 50th anniversary of the changing of the name to FIT.  And that was coincidentally the year I started there.  The comment was in reply to a request for memories of the time we alumni had attended the school.  It was a short reply describing the then brand new college, the few tiny buildings that were there, the poor quality of the equipment in the chemistry lab, the 1966 freshman orientation movie on the lawn showing rocket failures from the nearby space center, the primitive nature of the undeveloped campus swamp land, i.e. "The Jungle" (later to become the formal "Botonical Garden", and the ridiculously low (by today's standards) tuition costs.  I didn't know my comment had been selected for inclusion in their glossy newsletter.  The Google link was to a PDF to a full copy of the newsletter (their newsletters are very nice, glossy paper with fine images and lots of interesting news of the wonderful things the school is doing now) but  on the cover of this PDF copy was the date that said it was from three years ago! surprise  Well, duh!  Of course it was.  It was the 50th anniversary editionindecision.  But when I originally received my copy I didn't read it well enough to notice that my contribution had been included.  I remember writing the comment on the questionnaire but it seemed like just a few months ago.  I'm pleased to see that something I said was published and will be retained in some small circle for "posterity" but it doesn't seem like I said it three years ago!  Mine was the only reminiscing comment included in the newsletter so that makes it even more special to me.smiley  But..., perhaps I was the only person to respond to the questionnaire or had any memories of our time there 50 years ago.  It was, after all, the late '60s and there was a lot of weed being smoked in "the jungle". surpriseblush

..interesting.  Love the School's Acronym: "FIT".

Yeah I remember at the U of Wisconsin in Stevens Point tuition was rather inexpensive compared to today.  Registered off campus housing for the whole semester cost 275$ (can't even rent a room in a shared house today for a month where I live for that). The college added an alternate scrip dining plan which could be used at any campus dining facility (including the staff dining room in the Student Union which was actually pretty good) or snack bar (excellent way to avoid that "mystery meat smothered in deception gravy" often served at the main residence dining halls).  On our campus we also had a text rental system (with the option to purchase) which helped reduce costs as well. In total, I believe it cost something like 1,200$ a year to attend. The main campus at Madison was a little more expensive, but state and federal grants were adjusted to cover the cost.

Indeed, how things have changed over the years.  Crikey, I remember Mondays were 10¢ tap night at he Gym Mill Saloon on "The Square". Today even a pint of industrial swill is around 2.75$ - 3$..

Why are these so expensive?  One of these normally cost about five dollars, but I got 5 of them (and two panties) for $10.62.

I've been back to the FIT campus many times over the decades but last time was at least 8 years ago.  One of the things I find fascinating is that back when I was a student, the buildings were named for astronauts and people who donated a lot of money to the founding of the college.  But on recent visits I notice that many of the new buildings have been named for people I knew and saw walking around campus.  Many were my professors or administrators that I dealt with.cool  When I stop and realize that this was more than a half century ago I marvel at the vaporish nature of time. indecision  When I was a student the buildings were small and plain.  Now the new area of the campus is littered with huge fancy buildings and major scientific and atheletic facilities.  I used to be able to wake up in my dorm room, get dressed in a panic and be in class in 5 minutes.  Now it would take 20 minutes just to walk to the far end of the campus.  A bike would be handy.

...yeah my old campus has changed quite a bit as well.  The Fine Arts Building (where I spent most of my time) was expanded including a pipe organ in the recital hall, An entirely new Chemistry and Biology Science building (about 4 times as large as the original) was recently completed. There was yet another addition to the Student Union building as well as an expansion of the athletics building.  A new apartment based residence hall went up on the north end of campus, while my old residence hall was turned into an administrative building.   Finally, the off campus house I roomed at (a block from the Union) was raised for expansion of the car park for the hospital on the same block.

Also gone are several of my favourite hangouts on "The Square".(an area in downtown known for a cluster of taverns frequented by students that was formerly the city's farmers' market a long, long time ago).

Regarding my college's abbreviation "FIT".  The year I applied to attend was the first year that they used that name.  So when I requested college application forms from my high school guidance counselor to apply to various colleges I was sent the application form for FIT, filled it out and sent it in.  Only to discover shortly that I'd been rejected by the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York Cityfrown.  I guess I hadn't taken enough sewing, and art classes in high school.  Thankfully, I had enough time to contact Florida Institute of Technology directly and get the correct forms and was accepted. indecision
