  • Has anyone solved the Daz Installer Cannot Run With Elevated Permissions problem? I'm NOT running as admin or right clicking to do so, my run as admin is off and i did try with it on. Can i make purchases through Daz Connect without using DIM?

Check the DIM shortcut properties, maybe it's set to run as Admin. DAZ Connect items are downloaded\installed in DS itself.

  • Also, do have User Account Control turned off entirely?

Since 1.2 came out, I have noticed that the first couple of files in the download list sometimes fail if the computer has been sitting idle for a while and the disks have gone to sleep (I use an external drive for archiving the downloads). Works okay on next attempt, or just select and add to queue. Some sort of timeout waiting for response, but file system or network? Using the default 4 connections.

    Sample log file entry:

Communication timed out during keep alive.
WARNING: Error while downloading to file "IM00024253-01_LegacieHairforGenesis2Females.zip", content header has no file name
WARNING: Network Error while downloading to file "": Operation canceled

You asked me that already. I told you UAC is off.

Yes! I already told you that as well. lol.

Numerous people have posted, with various questions, to this thread - giving a summary of what has already been covered, rather than simply restating the original topic, would make it easier to avoid recovering previous ground. At the risk of revisting another previous question, have you checked that you can access the DIM folders without needing elevated privileges (try with UAC on so you get an alert if not)?

As far as I am aware nothing absolutely requires DIM - plug-ins and applications haev stand-alone isntallers, content can be installed manually or, in most cases, through Connect.

And apparently my awareness is too limited - there are soem third-party plug-ins that do not have a stand-alone installer.

I am trying to run DIM, but it seems that I am in a cycle which is open DIM, login, DIM says there is an update, update DIM, it automatically opens DIM again, login, DIM says there is an update, Update DIM, etc, etc, etc, etc.

edit: it is 1.2.0.6 if that matters.

I restarted my computer to see if that helps, but trying to login now.

I do have access to all of the folders. If i can do everything through Connect then i'll do it that way. Thanks for that info.

Not everything - plug-ins, and anything else that isntalls "as software" can't be Connect installed and, as I noted above, some plug-ins don't have a stand-alone installer (though I'm not sure which). The fourth-generation Daz Figures (Victoria 4 etc.) need their bases and ExP morph expansions in the same folder, not in separate folders per product as Connect does behind the scenes, though a manual install will work for that.

  • I can't log in on my DIM at all. I know my username and password because I can still login at the store, and have even tried reseting my password to something much easier just to see if I can get it to log in. What's more is that DAZ Connect does not seem to be working and I cant find the option to login either.

How long has that been happening, as it might be a server glitch.

  • Phew, I was able to get it fixed on my own. If anyone is having a similar problem and nothing in the suggested articles is working for you, then look to your router/ modem. I have Verizon Fios and they recently updated their firmware to include McAfee Home Network Protection. For those of you who are new to Daz Studio; McAfee has a history of blocking Daz Servers and is notoriously difficult to allow exceptions with. I had to go to the My Fios app on my phone and manually disable it under the Internet tab. DIM reconnected almost immediately. Mods do what you will with this update, I am just trying to be helpful.

DIM is just pretending to installwhat I downloaded.  All the downloads are showing at 0%.  There also was a ton of failed downloads.

I just tried to clear install queue but now DIM is not responsive.

Okay guys, i finally found a way around the DAZ INSTALLER CANNOT BE RUN WITH ELEVATED PERMISSIONS problem (it was also a problem with Daz Studio 4.11 Beta). You'll need to shut off UAC through registry editor. It worked for me for windows 8.1 and both programs are FINALLY working on my computer. Hope this helps...

For most people it should be enough not to use the Run As Administrator command or at worst to fix the permissions on the folders used by Install Manager. I'm sorry those didn't work for you, but turning off UAC is not  generally a good idea, and not recommended by Daz.

  • But it worked for me. After 3 months of trying to get it working.

Yes, whgich was why I said "for most people" and that it was not recommended. I'd have tried reinstalling Windows first.

Now there are options to set the locations for the Manifest Archive and Thumbnail Archive, is there some way to change the location of the DIM Filters? I never wanted any of the DIM stuff in Public Documents on my old computer, but now I've finally updated from my 2011 vintage Windows 7 laptop to a new Windows 10 one with an SSD C drive, and am just doing some reorganizing before setting up backup schemes, I absolutely do NOT want anything in Public Documents. DIM Package, Manifest and Thumbnail archives are all now elsewhere, but these blasted filters are still there. Surely there is some way to set DIM to keep them/look for them somewhere else!

Maybe it can be set in the Registy ...and actually I almost never use the filters so I suppose I could just delete them ...

If you click on Manage Filters, it should open the following path:

    C:\Users\Your username\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\UserAccounts\Account

Yes, I'd clicked on that and it caused File Explorer to open showing that directory. That doesn't change any setting in DIM, and is a File Explorer window not a DIM window. I'm not clear how that helps. Are you saying I can move the Filter folder there and it will still work?

Try it. When the File Explorer window opens, create a Folder and name it whatever you want. The next time you click on the Search icon next to the filter box, you'll see the newly created folder name. That should list any filters inside that folder.

Tried it before your post but had to go off to have a bath.

Yes, it worked. Moving all the contents of the Filters folder (rather than the actual Filters folder) directly into that location, without creating a folder there to put them into, DIM appears just like normal with all the filters as normal (no extra first level folder name to navigate).

    Thanks.

I do still think there should be a configuration option for filter location as there is for the Manifest and Thumbnail archives, and find it odd that they didn't add that while adding the Manifest and Thumbnail location options. Users shouldn't be having to move things into user AppData sub folders manually. And while I'm pleased I now have an empty Public Documents, I actually want those filter files on my D Drive with the Manifests and Thumbnails, or my E drive with the DIM downloads and my actual DS My Library, not still lurking somewhere else on C..

Is this a clean download to a system that didn't he DIM, or are you trying to upgrade an existing installation?
