I'll get back as soon as I have a definite answer...
SO... it's been about five days since the last query about this - what is the word from Daz marketing/sales regarding a discount for prior LDP owners? I realize that you are not directly 'running' the sales process, but you _DO_ have a stake in the matter...
Tks,
Ray
I just wanted to post a quick note to say thanks for arranging the discount for owners of previous Light Dome Products. I bought the new LDP-R and have just started doing some test renders.
My first impression is that it is very fast. The 8 layers give ample base material use in Photoshop to tweak your images. I will be trying it out extensively this weekend. I can already see that it offers great potential. I’m looking forward to the future add-ons to LDP-R.
Thanks again for the discount! I’m very glad to see you are back in the plug-in game again.
Hi,
I am just using out of the box, so to speak, with no tweaks.
I have done everything as per the instructions...
Bit I get this... (pls see attachment)
What am I doing wrong? Why can i not see the sky?
I even tried getting rid of the fog, via opacity and hiding... does not work!
I cannot see the sky.
At the moment the fog distance is at 25000 as is default figure.
Please advise.
aograi, did you set your background color to black in DS? That tip is kind of buried in the text of the PDF instructions.
Yes I did.
That would be a great addition, thank you.
The black background worked fine for the render by the way, but I've scrapped it because I simply didn't like the render. There will be many others though, I enjoyed playing around with LDP-R in both DS and PS.
Thanks I will try it.
You're most welcome! Thank you for your kind words and I'm looking forward to seeing your renders!
Great, looking forward to seeing more from you! ;)
The only thing that can cause such a bright sky when using DS with a white background instead of black. A last minute LDP-R change, caused the script to not auto-change to black. This will be fixed in the next update. Let me know if that works out for you!
Thank you guys for all the help.
Finally
question, where do I change the background color?
Question to Dreamlight. A few of the larger sets come with more then one camera, and there is also the Director's Cuts cameras. Would it ever be possible to have the LDP-R camera copy to the position of an existing camera? Love the LDP-R so far, but this would be an extreme plus for me.
For the cameras I think you can just move the camera into what ever position you want.
Here's a quick render with the cold filter on it. I added a red color layer over it and tinkered with the light layers a bit before adding the filter. The tower is three towers from a Fantasy Castle set I bought ages ago stacked on top of each other with one of the wood shaders from DimensionTheory's Shades of Life applied to all the stonework (and the displacement turned waaayy up).
I may have to redo with the camera set a bit lower and angled up more, but I really love the lighting - this would have taken me forever without LDPR.
Majestic angle, thanks for posting!
Next to the camera selector (in the preview window), there is a menu icon that looks like a few horizontal lines. Click on that, then select Change Background Color.
Select any of the cameras you want to use in your Scene Tab. Hit CTRL + C on your keyboard (Windows) to copy. Select the LDP-R Camera. Hit CTRL + V to paste.
Looks magical, thanks for posting! Yeah, quite heavy disp! :)
I cannot wait to use Light Dome PRO-R in my animation, can you please tell us when will the animation option be available?
Works like a charm. Thanks!
Here's one I made last night just to make sure I had things set up right. When I woke up, I played around with it some, but like how it turned out. Used Stonemason's Tin Pan Alley, a night background, but forgot to make the Studio background black, then ran it through the Miami action, a Nik filter, and added some age with a small bit of Postwork.
I notice a lot of lovely scenes being posted... can anyone demonstrate how LDP-R works with figures in the foreground (or mid- to fore-ground)? ... or is it really not recommended for character studies?
Here are a couple I did. I was just playing around. I didn't keep track of the settings I used.
There are some tweaks to be made, including an insane TURBO mode that will render even faster (4 times!), which will really work great with animation. Animation will be included soon, but no real release date yet.
Awesome! ;)
Works like a charm. Thanks!
Very cool, maybe a few zombies in there and you've got a winner!
It will indeed work great with characters. An important part of LDP-R is actually the live-adjustments made in Photoshop, since there is so much that can be made there, to enhance the look of your characters. Including adding your own "fill-lights" on top of LDP-R. For instance, a common thing photographers do, is to use the sun light as a strong back-light, and then using a bouncer in front of the model, to get more soft lighting from the front.
You can for instance add an area light or spot light as an additional layer to the LDP-R layers, and that way give it more life. You can of course also use the sun light to get great looking renders as is.
These look great, thanks for posting! Remember you can amplify the sun or sky bounce layer to get more lighting bounced up on a characters face.
Did this in LDP-R as an exercise.
