Complaining Non-complaint: Weather here tomorrow night is predicted to suck royal swamp water. Heavy rain & storms. This is bad, however this is also convenient. I wanted to be able to attend one more symphony at Chautauqua this summer and had planned on tomorrow night's final performance of the season. But since I've way overspent my summer entertainment budget at the on-line auction a couple weeks ago, I really shouldn't splurge on a fleeting hour or two of music. So, since I'm out of money and the venue is open air, and the weather will suck, and I haven't already bought my ticket. I have a perfectly valid excuse for not going. Yay?

Depends on what you have, maybe, but on my phone I hold the button in for a few seconds, and the shutdown starts. Same to turn it back on. I have a Samsung phone.

...could use some of that drenching here where I am to put out the fires or at least wash all the smoke out of the air . It's so thick that even buildings a block away look hazy. According to the current conditions, supposedly it is "partly cloudy, but can't tell as looking up all I see is more haze and the sun is shining though the light is yellow in colour.
...yeah that worked. Shows just how "old school" I am, never knew to do that. All this newfangled technology these days, why I remember when "turning off" the phone meant unplugging it from the wall.
What does “Please wait” mean? That is what my computer says as I try to boot it.

Now unplugging a phone means taking it off the charger. Assuming it is a cell phone. There is still land lines but those are now mainly for businesses, I guess. My house has a land line but I do not give that number out. I use my cell phone more than the house phone.

Complaint: Is this it? Is this what my life has come to? Tired of watching stupid drivers, cats, news, and old movies, on YouTube. And even having discovered that I've learned all that is currently presented in science documentaries on YouTube about animals, cosmology and nuclear physics, I've taken up watching Washington DC Metro subway ride videos. Washington, DC and Orlando, FL were the only two big cities I've ever lived in for any time. And Orlando doesn't really count as a big city. But Washington was very interesting and for a decade I had opportunities to ride the Metro frequently. I loved it. Quiet, clean, safe, efficient, convenient. However, the last 5 years I was there I lived in Reston, VA 20 miles west of DC, and the nearest Metro station was about a 10 minute drive east on an Interstate class of road that ran between the station and Dulles Airport another further 7 miles to the West of Reston. At the wrong time of the day, it was hard to find a parking spot in the station's lot, so one had to be clever about when one wanted to take the Metro to DC. For decades they talked about extending the Metro line out to Dulles Airport but it never happened until just 4 years ago. Now the "Silver" line still isn't finished out to the airport but it does run east from Reston, Virginia into Washington, DC and then on out to the Interstate beltway far on the East side of the city into Maryland. Yay! But I of course never got a chance to appreciate it because I moved out of the area in 2002.
So now, bored silly I find myself watching videos of the train ride, waxing nostalgic. (*sigh*)

Note: The map shows that the Silver line going west is complete out to "Reston Center" but according to a news article I found dated January 2018, bad weather has delayed the project and it won't be complete out to Dulles Airport until 2020. (they were making noises about a Metro line to Dulles Airport back in the '80s)
The only time I ever had a trouble with overcrowded trains was after the 4th of July fireworks on the Mall and everybody would rush to the nearest Metro station. I made that mistake only once. In subsequent years I started moving from the Mall while the fireworks were beginning the finale, and had a good start on the rest of the crowd. And I didn't go to the nearest Metro station "Smithsonian" but walked to the east end of the Mall and went to the "Capitol South" station where the train would come in essentially empty and then arrive at "Smithsonian" where I already had my seat and the crowd would have to cram and try to get on the first train they could. It pays to be a resident and not a tourist.

...more extensive system than here in Portland however Metro has been around over a decade longer than our LRT network. A sixth line to the southwest environs is currently in the planning stages. All our lines are surface lines due to the fact much of the city is built on soft damp clay. The only "underground" portion is a 3 mile long tunnel the through the West Hills. There is the possibility for a second tunnel through the southern portion of the West Hills for the new line being developed but it isn't a given yet as different alignment options are still being considered.
My roommate is talking loudly to herself. She claims she is praying, but I am not so sure. All I know it that it is getting annoying.
