Properly speaking, I'm thinking of an American Staffordshire Terrier, which seems to have a lower stop than the other sorts.

Its like the big dog? Mine is like the small, a Chug, a mix of pug and chihuahua and looks like a mini boxer or such

We need a Growing Up morph kit for the dog from @Zevo and an all over morph kit from some PA... I'm not really into any of the breeds so far, but would like to make my own mutts and puppies...

But the Heckhound is totes adorb!

If we don't get a brand new G8F pro pack by midnight I'm getting the dog.

Right now my cart says: Dog 8, French Bulldog, Heckhound, Collar and leash, fightin' poses.

    Still debating half of it.

The only dog breed I didn't get was the great dane, even though I had one (or maybe because I had one). I thought it looked much less realistic than the others (and because mine was a boston and there was no boston texture and my baby's ears weren't cut). Other than that, I'm thrilled with the new doggie :)

sorry can't find who mentioned this to quote them but someone mentioned Higgins and his dogs from Magnum PI (my human poses)anyway was looking through the poses to answer question for someone else and noticed the pose set that had that cool render no longer has that render for some reason don't know why it's been pulled deleted now there's just the standard plain purple female blue male sitting on air with the two dogs either side of her/him. Still some renders for the product but that was a good promotion seller

The promo referred to is one of those for Base Dog 8, it is still there.

ha my bad :) no wonder didn't see it ause I have it but now we all know which pose set has that pose for him and the dogs for those that wanna replicate it

I'd probably use a D-Former on the ground to pull the ground down in a spot, then use a plane or cylinder primitive with some irregular d-forms pulling downward, etc. to place 'over' the hole.  The pile of dirt next to the hole might be a bit of a challenge texture wise though... maybe use a small mountain?

You could also build the hole and dirt pile in Hexagon, etc..  Then apply a dirt shader.  Or maybe stack some pebbles/rocks so that they overlap, and again use some dirt shaders on the rocks for the dirt pile.

Might not hurt to check the Freebies sites to see if someone has already thought of this...

  • A series of interlinked primitive torus objects can make interesting holes.

Thank you for all the kind words of encouragement and inspiration from all these great images.

I wanted to share some more fun with "Daz Dog 8" in DAZ Studio and Iray. This time I tried to create a crossbreed by applying the French Bulldog morph with the base DAZ Dog 8 figure. No post work

PS. I couldn't decide between this coat and a black and white version. So I attached an alternative version.  Which one do you prefer?

    Actually, I was over-complicating this.

As I explained before, use a D-Former to pull a section of your ground plane downwards, to create an area for your hole.

Then, create a plane primitive, with a lot of sections (I used 64), I'd suggest rectangular, then use two D-Formers, one on each end, to pull the center left down and the center right up, and each to one side, because Dogs dig at an angle.  Then apply a rough dirt shader, like this:

Note that I also adjusted the spline a bit to make the sides of the hole a bit steeper.

Then, place this primitve so that the hole is over your other hole, just slightly below the ground plane (to hide the edges of this primitive). This way your grass or whatever will extend just slightly into the hole and against the edge of the dirt pile.

You can use more D-Formers, Hexagon, etc. to make your dirt pile or hole rougher.

BTW, anyone notice how ENORMOUS the default dog is? A Doberman's head should barely come to just past an average man's hip. The default dog is half again as big. o.O? It should be about 15 to 20% smaller.

Hmmm, it seemed to be about the right size to me but I've not since a doberman since the 5th or 6th grade so it would seem bigger to me I guess just like the first German Shepherd I remember was twice as big or more as me.

I had 4 of them. One red male and 3 black females. The male was a little bigger, but only marginally. And a doberman isn't really a super big dog. Maybe medium large. Not even what I would call large. Because of this, any poses made for humans and the default dog together will be off if the dog is scaled to the right size and will look off if the dog is left at the wrong size that it is now. Also, the ears are shaped a little weird...not long enough or pointed enough on the tips. But I fixed that easily with two morphs ;).

Here's a pic of a guy and a doberman (dog is in front so will look a little bigger than it is) and a render I did with Darius 8 (who is tall, so I only scaled the dog down 10%, but it could go smaller).

I'm a bit disappointed - I though for sure we'd get a couple more dog products (breeds) the next day or today, after the big release. :sigh: I'll just have to wait I guess for the mastiff, boxer, and staffie.

I'm still waiting for the breeds that were in the shapes/fits for the poses and products (husky, german shephard and wolf. Don't remember if there was any more) Did buy some of the stuff, but was holding back because I badly wanted those breeds *sad*

I think the reason they aren't on sale yet, is due to them needing a good fur coat. Which HAS been an issue in Daz.

Yes, that looks maybe 10% too big or maybe bigger than average. It's hard to tell by eye. Speaking of big dogs where is a Saint Bernard in there plans. 3DU sort of has a similar one, but short haired cartoon style. My next door neighbors had one as kids and it was was bigger than our fathers, although they may of been mostly fur.

Lovely images, Joe. You always do great work. I actually love both coats, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the brown.

My first doggie image. I couldn't resist playing with Benji. I love what @Deepsea did with the puppy. He looks fantastic. I like the Dog 8 so far. My only complaint so far, is there aren't enough controls for the tongue. There's "side to side" and "in and out". We seem to be missing "up and down" and the ability to curl the tongue would be nice.

I know there are a couple of vendors who have done have done tongue control products for G8 because I have them and they are really useful. @Zevo comes to mind and I think SF-Design also did one.  Would be nice if a vendor added the Dog 8's tongue to their list of products to consider making.

    Anyway, a picture!

At least the doberman is fixable (changes on the right). BTW, will scaling save with a character preset?? If not, how do I bake morphs?

For those who are curious as to how the dog renders in 3DL...

Here's a render "out of the box", no conversions:

Here they are convertd to 3DL using RSSY's script. I only changed the eye moisture to water.

And here's an image of converted Benji&Great DAne (same settings as above with RSSY's script):
