was talkin to a guy at work who's a dad. (whose?)

    ...

    http://www.dictionary.com/e/whose-vs-whos/

"who's":  contraction for "who is"  eg:  The person most likely to cause an accident is the one who's speeding.  (person is)

"whose": showing belonging or association.  eg: The blame falls on the person whose car was speeding.  (blame belongs to)

In your case, the most probable meaning is "the man who is a dad".

    whose car is this?

whom is easy, thanks to metallica !

says "animal farm" isn't in the school reading curriculum any more.  dunno why, i find that kinda scary.

I never had to read "Animal Farm" but I do know the all too real plot.  However, "Lord of the Flies" scared the bezezus out of me. surprise  I sometimes wonder why we think we are so special, enlightened and entitled, when so much of history and human nature proves us wrong. sad

..I did, along with Lord of the Flies, Slaughterhouse 5, Catch-22 and It Can't Happen here. Went to a fairly progressive high school for the day.

my 2 favo(u)rites of hs reading,"island of the blue dolphins",  no dolphins in the story.

    and Kidnapped.

Morning. No Complaints Caturday today:: out of contract and in to sleep mode,  eighteen hours or so in the last 24 is making a good start to catching up on zzzzz’s, handy mark all as read function turns 300+ unread emails into guilt-free no new mail (phew) message with a single click, is unreasonably still summery here - almost no rain - but our garden seems to have mostly survived *WIN* although our old Pear tree looks like possums are shredding it’s foliage. No place like home :)

No moon tonight but a few stars are outshining our glowy yellow street lamps and somewhere up in the black shadows of our trees  a mob of hungry possums are shredding autumn foliage they can’t feed on, long dry summers are always crueller to small tree dwellers relying on spring and autumn shoots to survive :0

What's the point in cleaning up when it's just going to get messy again?

Complaint:  Summertime auctions and household sales are in bloom.  But at least it gives me some place to go and something to do. yes I just need to remember to leave my credit card & cash at home. frown  I'm off to a "Living Estate Auction" today.  That either means that somebody desperately needs money and is selling their best stuff, or it means that somebody has too much stuff and is selling their junk. indecision

Complaint:  I've been catching myself reading too much informal English and I end up falling into the trap of writing carelessly and leaving out the important short words like prepositions, pronouns and articles.  But all I have to do is think back to the scenes from the Truman Capote character "Lionel Twain" in the movie "Murder By Death". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znS3gXjGCiU for a quick kick in the pants.

Pride?  Sanitation?  Sophistication?  Order?  Not losing things in the clutter?

If every day, everybody in the world picked up and properly disposed of one more piece of trash than they created, the world would be a lot cleaner place.  Start the day by making your bed, even if it's just to hastily cover it with a quilt.  You've accomplished one thing for the day and it's easier to keep the ball rolling. enlightened

That being said,  it's my policy to vacuum the house once a year whether it needs it or not. surprise

    Since last visit:

--Frequently forgetting about the forum oops

--New Monster Hunter game came out, been playing that a lot.

--Complaint though;  my favorite critter ever from the series (Lagiacrus) got cut from the game.

    --Drawing some here and there.

--Trying to 3D again, with varying success. Mostly flailing about then wandering off for days/weeks.

--That indie game I mentioned before, being developed by two folks? Yeah, it's almost ready. They just cobbled together a trailer for it

<<Snipped the Rant about the lagiacrus removal thing,  had second thoughts about it so nvm. Sorry 'bout that if you already read it haha>>

    Lagiacrus has his own themesong.

1:00 to 1:12 is my favorite part, those trumpets are just too perfect.

Alatreon has a nice one too though, easily my second-favorite.

    1:20 to 2:15 here ^^

Aaand now that all that's wrapped up, a couple of the 3D's I've been working on:

First up another venture into zBrush where I tried to make some silly carnivorous plant with my limited knowledge of things.

Then a little scene that's half my own modeling, and half stuff from elsewhere (People models included in Cinema 4D, and ofc the Mantiraptor from here at DAZ)

Then finally just me messing around because whatever.  Our very own Sea Dragon,  and then two vehicle models I got off a free models website. Included two diff views because I was having fun.

The mantiraptor scene was rendered in Cinema 4D's physical render, but I'm trying to transfer it over into Vray the past couple days. The Sea Dragon scene was started and finished in Vray.

    And uh, I'll try and not forget about the forum and wander off again ><;

Complaint: I've been watching so much British TV on YouTube that when talking about money I say "Pounds" instead of "Dollars". frown

    Welcome to normal! wink

We did them here too. I think reading books like Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, 1984, Farenheit 451 etc is important for kids, particularly in the current global political climates. If we hide the realities of the world we live in from our children, I think we do them a great disservice (not to mention the shock when the world finally catches up with them).

I read 1984 when it was still "in the future"!

the amazon uk books i bought over the years use single quote in the dialog.

  • TangoAlphaTangoAlpha Posts: 4,587

Indeed, that is the British way: 'single quotes on the outside, "double quotes on the inside"'. Americans do it the other way around - double on the outside, single on the inside.

Non-complaint:  I'm back from the "Living Estate Auction", tired from over three hours of sitting, waiting, standing, & jostling for position around the table of the moment.  The stuff wasn't bad but mostly not what I was interested in.  Lots of silver, silver plate, & faux silver.  Lots of cut crystal individuals (no sets), lots of Americana kitsch, some tools, several sets of old dental tools and equipment.  Some antique furniture, rugs and kitchenware.  I did spy a set of 7 alabaster Easter eggs that I added to my rock collection.  Also snatched up a marvelous inlaid marketry wooden box for $3.  I missed out on a couple pairs of bedside nightstands that zoomed past my budget, but I did snag a hell of a deal on a mahogany "Pineapple" bed frame in perfect condition for $25. surpriseyes The biggest problems was fitting it into my car, but that big old Buick was able to shuffle its passenger seat WAY forward and I just managed to get the headboard into and out of the back seat without scratching it or tearing my seats.  The other parts of the bed fit easily.  Now I have to get the parts up my stairs and assembled.  I guess it's time to start looking for a new box spring and new mattress to replace the super cheap ones I bought 9 years ago that have essentially died and are killing my back.  And I can get rid of that cheap, clanky, metal bed frame with no head or footboard. Yea! smiley

...Farenheit 451 was another one.  Seems there was just more social awareness in public education back then.Considering the times, it was a good thing.
