Ready for some more mysterious, or morose music?  Cesar Franck: Symphony in D minor, 1st movement.  Parts of it sound like a necessary but undesired trudge into Hell while being followed by malevolent spirits. surprise  Especially the first 5 minutes and the 6 minutes at the end of the 1st movement starting at 11:00

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0W3fqfr2CY

2nd movement begins at 17:05  slow wandering

3rd movement begins at 27:05  much happier mood.

Only 3 movements instead of the typical 4 of a symphony.  Franck morphs the morose theme of the 1st movement into jubilation in the 3rd movement.

was talkin to a guy at work who's a dad. (whose?)

says "animal farm" isn't in the school reading curriculum any more.  dunno why, i find that kinda scary.

I never had to read "Animal Farm" but I do know the all too real plot.  However, "Lord of the Flies" scared the bezezus out of me. surprise  I sometimes wonder why we think we are so special, enlightened and entitled, when so much of history and human nature proves us wrong. sad

..I did, along with Lord of the Flies, Slaughterhouse 5, Catch-22 and It Can't Happen here. Went to a fairly progressive high school for the day.

We did them here too. I think reading books like Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, 1984, Farenheit 451 etc is important for kids, particularly in the current global political climates. If we hide the realities of the world we live in from our children, I think we do them a great disservice (not to mention the shock when the world finally catches up with them).

I read 1984 when it was still "in the future"!

...Farenheit 451 was another one.  Seems there was just more social awareness in public education back then.Considering the times, it was a good thing.

    Brave New World

That one was scary in the 90s when I read it!  I can see a lot of that stuff today, not happening...but the possibilities seem real.  VR still doesn't come close to "Feelies", but they're working on it.

    Dana

In a watered down sense it is real now.  Most people are so absorbed in TV and the internet, it's a wonder they have a clue what is happening in the real world.  I see people in town walking around with their heads glued to their smart phones.  At work, as soon as people take a break, out come the smart phones and the surfing begins.  Brave New World was certainly closer to the bone than 1984.  Most societies have long recognized that it is easier to control people with pleasure than it is with suffering.

..I've had people nearly walk into me on the pavement while looking at their phones instead of what''s ahead.  I'm surprised when I am downtown on the transit mall that I don't see people get flattened by buses and trams because they are not paying attention to their surroundings. We have had such incidents.  Then there's also the fools who have their phone in front of their face while driving (and the number of these incidents seems to be increasing even though there are laws [which are hard to enforce unless an officer actually sees it]).

I actually dropped to a less expensive plan with my phone that only gives me 1 GB of data as I never use more than that in a month (and then just to quickly check bus arrival times, baseball scores, the weather, find a location of a business/service nearby, and emails when out and about).  I hate texting because it just doesn't work with my arthritis (I like to say that I tend to create new languages when I text).

I agree about Brave New World being the closer parallel, give them Bread and Circuses and they won't care what is really happening. However, I am seeing more and more of 1984 is getting mixed in as well as elements of It Can't Happen Here beginning to unfold. At least the fire dept is still in the business of fighting fires and saving lives.

    ...love that symphony.

Franck was also quite the improvisor and music historians mention that much of the greatness of his genius lived only briefly and died at the walls of Ste Clothilde, never to me heard again afterwards.

His published output consisted of 12 organ works, the one symphony a few chorale works, songs, piano works chamber music and what were called "symphonic poems" works, as well as part of an uncompleted set of pieces for the harmonium (reed organ) that were posthumously published.

Non-complaint:  My new bed frame is up the stairs, assembled and under my mattress and box springs.  Yea! yes  I finally, after 10 years here, have a real bed with footboard & headboard. (I started out with a camping air mattress on the floor for a year and a half). surprise

The box springs and mattress still squeek and the top of the bed is now about 8 inches higher but I'll adapt to the change in height, hopefully before do a "fall out of bed" maneuvre. frown

Now, I need to start looking for a bargain, at some auction this summer, on a decent set of bedside nightstands.  I also want to replace my old el-cheapo mattress & springs with something of better quality but I know those don't come cheap nor am I very likely to find them at an auction. sad

The hardest part of a live, in-person auction is the waiting. indecision And at some of these country auctions there is no seating so you're on your feet for hours unless you can find an overstuffed chair in the sale and squat there until your item comes up for bid.  Displaying your cane and looking pitiful helps to avoid having to get out of the chair. enlightened

Wanted to put something in a little globe, so I did this :D

A globe with water and a sea dragon inside ^^

Sculpted the little base myself, though being inexperienced in the workflow I made some mistakes along the way and so wasn't able to generate a Normal Map for it (Apparently, you have to do that *before* you delete all the subdivision levels haha)

This took about an hour and forty minutes to render. There's still some things I want to change (Like more stuff in the background for it to reflect),  and the full size version at 2,800px took six hours to render eep, at least I have another laptop and my xbox to keep me busy while it's working!

I like the old Sea Dragon model, he's cute.

Just realized there's some texture glitches on his neck scales.  Turns out its the Normal map I have on it;  the standard Bump map doesn't cause them. Might just go back to using the basic bump map then, though it wouldn't be hard to just fix that in photoshop when the final render's done either~

I've wanted to find a good mobile home on Daz or the Other Store. I really am happy they've added one, but as for the OTHER items that have have accompanied it... Really? Did Daz really go there? Even the title of the bundle feels full of mockery and disdain: "Livin' the Dream."

I had forgotten that, according to elitist stereotypes, simply living in a mobile home park makes people low class trash, so thanks Daz. We thought we were just normal people on a tight budget moving into nice, affordable housing in a friendly, albeit slightly crowded neighborhood - but maybe that's just further proof the move into a trailer park killed off an excessive number of brain cells. Still, housing prices where I live are kept artificially inflated by lovely people/businesses who just want to turn them into poorly maintained, overpriced, rentals, and our mobile home doesn't have the electrical/plumbing/mold/pest issues those do.

I hate where I live because I feel like I am loosing it.  My roommate keeps talking to herself.  It drives me crazy.  SO CRAZY!  But I have to STFU it because she has every right it appears to talk loudly to herself.  I feel like a failure.

Count yourself lucky to have a mobile home.  You could be living on a shelf in Japan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsule_hotel

And don't think that someday they're not going to start calling them apartments.
