I don't mind if Daz does different things, and Ollie certainly is different. But these sort of characters should be much later down the pipe. Where on earth are the Asian characters? And don't anyone even dare say Aiko has anything to do with Asian.

    My Thoughts exactly!!

Well DAZ will have the sales number of the 7 versions of Asian characters to compare with the 8 versions of their characters so far I wonder how much of that is market growth though?

    My take:

For what he is Ollie 8 seems very well done but somewhat of a niche character. He is certainly different and may be of interest to some people; but I probably would never use him. So, I probably will pass on this one. I really was hoping for a Mei lin 8 or a Lee 8 this go round.

Ollie 8 looks good, I like this style just this figure isn't my highest priority.

Adrien Brody might not take took kindly to him, LOL!

Not really into it, and nothing I can use in the pro bundle so looks like I’m saving money this time. I hope he isn’t a replacement for guy... that would be a shame.

Ok, at first look in my email on my phone, I was meh. Then I got on my computer and really had a look. What a character! He adds a lot to the gene pool, and his add on characters are very good (hello, Glumgurgle and Zakyr!) You don't have to dial him all the way in to really get some interesting looks. Love the bundle and the add on textures look fantastic. Great job, everyone! Grabbing him today and will post pics soon.

Are the head and body morphs separate for Ollie?  The product page doesn't say.  I really dislike characters which don't have them separated out.

I'm trying to figure out whether DAZ has managed to rope in Nursoda to build a base character. (Doubt it.)

He has more of a D Master character to me than a Nursoda, similar to his Billy.

Head, Body, Ears & Nose are all adjustable separately.

He looks amazingingly like one of my cousins but I wound up bought the Ollie 8 character and the aviator outfit anyway. I don't really need another aviator outfit but adding it knocked $8 from the combined price. He will combine with other toon caricatures for good looks.

  • I like him.  But then again I like goofy-looking oddball characters.  They can't all be 20 something year old cover models.  At least if you are into storytelling.

I was NOT expecting this. I'm not sure if I like him or not. LOL I'm not opposed to different, but this is VERY different. Hmmmm

That Josh Crockett Gollum figure was just too irresistible. I have a Crockett weakness tho ;) Maybe I should start a support group...

  • Bought.  Now all I have to figure out how to do is make more space on my hard drive.  It's stuffed.

Let me know when the meetings start and grant me the serenity to accept the things that aren't on sale.

This an excellent idea that solves a lot of problems. I wish morph packs would do this. I haven't seen this since the Generation 4 Ethnic morphs that separated eyes, noses, mouths & something else; it's been awhile.

I got the starter bundle and the "Creepy Kid" sort of character by Josh and the loincloth collection.  ZBrush is there in case I want to use him full on and need that nose of his more normal in size.  They could really build allot on this base for other packs like a nose options pack!  lol

My knee jerk reaction wasn't thrilled, but he's unique and I'd like to do some fantasy pictures of him with Karyssa or use him as a side kick for the Guy 7. There are some nice possibilities.

But I'm wondering if I missunderstood the sale. In my cart is the Ollie 8 Pro-Bundle, 4 Ollie add-ons, 1 character base figure from the list of options, 1 Starter set from the second list of options, and 1 Pro-bundle from the 3rd list of options. The discounts on Ollie 8 and his add-ons are all great, the other pro bundle is showing up free, but the base figure and starter set are both 30% off when I thought they were suppose to be free. Is the sale an either/or kind of thing, where I can get Ollie Pro-bundle, and add on and a base figure, OR Ollie bundle 2 add ons and the starter bundle, OR etc. ?

Theres a morph included to make the nose smaller.

Does anyone know if the Gollum Glumgurgle figure can be used independently of Ollie 8? I have a use for Gollum Glumgurgle, but I'm not that interested in Ollie. If you applied GG to G8 Male, would you get something that looked vaguely like the images in the promos, or is there a hard-and-fast requirement for Ollie 8?

You only get one free figure. The only difference is from which group you can pick according to how much you buy. The 1st category is if you buy 2, the second category is if you buy 3 and the 3rd category is if you buy 4. Hope that makes sense. These Daz sales almost require programs these days they're getting so convoluted ;).

I think both rendo and Daz have had a lot of individual Asian characters and morphs hit the market. It would be awesome to see pro bundles of other nationalities, Asian, middle eastern, Russian, etc. until then I use the g2 and g3 versions. And quite by accident I’ve recently  become enamored with v4 because she fills gaps that g8 hasn’t touched yet.

Its more about representation. The Daz Original line is their premiere lineup and always gets top billing for a full two weeks. And they frequently get featured for years on end in other promotions. Not seeing other ethnicities in these lineups is getting old. Waiting until the second half of Genesis 8's life cycle for these characters is not cool, not cool at all. And its a bit degrading to have some sprinkled as "add on" products for other 8 characters. IMO, that's effectively like having the token ethnic side character in other media. Instead, we get Ollie. And sure, I'm fine with Ollie existing. But before Mei Lin or Lee??? Or what about a more Latino character? Come on. What kind of signal does that send?

Help, help!  I am being quoted for something I didn't write.  LOL.

I merely gave a +1 to DivasMakeup observation that Ollie is great for fantasy renders.

But somehow the forum software is quoting me as wondering about the activities of Nursoda.  I wonder no such thing.  I do wish Nursoda well, but I don't wonder about Daz roping in Nursoda.  Wonder what gives.

I think Ollie is fantastic! To me he's pretty much a "must have" for anyone who's even considering doing fantasy art. :) I can totally see him as Ichabod Crane, an old wizard, a house elf, or any number of fantasy type characters. :)

LOL...Ichabod Crane was the first character I thought of when I laid eyes on this one. I won't even assume how old you are, but that makes ME feel really, really old. LMAO.

He looks like so many character actors over the years. Ted from Scrubs comes to mind. An excellent add-on to 8.

    !!!

This is why products need to start having complete "What's Included" lists.

Wow.  A total swing and miss on the part of everyone involved.  Which is a shame as this is the kind of character that I might have taken a chance on if they hadn't completely cheaped out and given us the same kind of add-on bundle deal options we got with Edward and Alexandra.  As it is, the contents of the Pro Bundle are... well, I guess the kindest thing I can say is it looks like they just grabbed a bunch of random stuff that didn't make the "appeal level" cut to become PC+ items, hence two more utterly useless fantasy outfits and yet another freaking mohawk hair... that brings the current total to 11 mohawk-style hairs released here at DAZ just since G3M came out, by the way.  The 80s were 30 years ago, DAZ, it's time to hang it up next to your parachute pants.  Finally, the selection of items that you have to buy to get the price of the bundle down to a cheap price is so anemic that it's just sad.

Funny to see, that this time I am the one who likes all the stuff in the Pro pack enough to get down on my knees in front of my wife, asking for a raise in my monthly budget to be able to buy it.

For me, everything in that bundle will come handy, as even just looking at the different things made pictures pop up in my mind... didn't happen with any of the other Pro Packs offered recently (or old...) or at least not to the same amount of possible pictures.

Of course falling in love with Ollie on first sight might have influenced this a bit. But he's just too good a Rincewind or a Pictsy to let him pass...

And of course not being a long time customer, who has already thousands of things in his runtime, and for whom these outfits etc. aren't new helps a lot in liking this Pro Pack, too. As does getting the Pro Pack, four addons and an older Generation Pro pack for less than what the pure Pro pack would cost reduced.

Don't feel bad, I though Ichabod Crane too and I'm probably way younger than ya'll. ;)

Of course on the otherhand he makes me think of a Redcap. And that's vaguely unsettling.
