WHOOAAH! That is REALLY something, Sean! I hope it gets accepted! You obviously put a lot of thought and effort into this and the results are superb.

I think you've cut to the real spirit of the theme by showing how the future looked to us back THEN, in the '50s, rather than going for a scene in the future. Almost makes you want to dive into that showroom and order one. (My dad would have.) (My mom wouldn't have let him.)

SOLAR HAZARD PROTECTION IN THE FUTURE

Yes, we'll still use a squirt of sun cream.

THANKS FOR THE ENTRY GIFT, KRISSY!

Also starring B9 Robot by matrixworkz and the Sulaco Hanger by arjin, both from ShareCG, and MrSparky's Floating Security Head Cam from Poserdirect

Thanks! I was considering a sci-fi theme at first, but then the whole flying car thing caught my attention and I had just found the radio and some links to antique TV set pictures, and changed my mind.

I swear I was going to put an apron on the android in my entry, but RAM was running so short I didn't dare add another thing.

Presenting "The future is now", my entry with two flying cars! Well, they're parked in the showroom right now, but I assure you they'll fly quite well after you take one home. Your family will thank you!

However... There are a few items in the render that you didn't declare - the radios, the television tube, and the room itself. If any of them are paid items, that would put you over the limit... Do you have links for them? (I'll accept your word if they're freebies that you've lost track of, if that's all you can give me.)

Whoops, I forgot both the radio and the necklace. I've edited my original post. The radio is the mcjRadio from https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts2/mcjradio-prop , and the necklace is "Pearl Necklace for V4" from Pearl Necklace for V4: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=56300 .

    Everything else is just primitives:
The room walls and ceiling are a primitive cube.
The TV tube is a primitive cube converted to subD and deformed slightly.
The TV swivel mount is a copy of the tube, squished flatter and lowered slightly into it.
The TV power light is a primitive sphere with a pointlight in it.
The 3 TV control knobs and round base are primitive cylinders.
The TV table is a primitve cylinder, stretched.
The floor is a primitive plane.
The round white carpets are primitive spheres, squished flat.
The square white carpet is a primitive plane.
The ceiling light fixtures are a squished primitive sphere in the center, a squished primitive torus for the outer ring, and an uber area light disk for the actual light source.
Materials used are a combination of things I started with using the shaders from Gemologica, the ones that come with DAZ Studio, and/or me just fiddling around in the surfaces tab and Gimp.

That's some very impressive primitive work!

    Thanks everybody!

    @Robelk,
I actually spent a lot of time searching around for a free old TV, but couldn't really find anything with the super-bulgy screen like I wanted. It finally occurred to me that all I really needed was sort of an inflated rounded rectangular object, so I tried the subdivision on a cube to get rounded corners. It rounded them, but the whole thing was still mostly a cube. I almost gave up, but then thought hey, I wonder what happens if I stick a DFormer in the middle and just make it larger. I had to fiddle a bit to get the DFormer the right size, but it worked great. What looked like a horribly painful modeling job turned out to just be a little bit of randomly-press-buttons-and-drag-sliders-and-see-what-happens. The majority of the time on the TV tube was actually spent trying to position a light correctly to get reflection got into the upper right corner, not modeling.
There's no way I'd manage to get another entry done in time for this contest, so I'll have to stick to a single entry this time.

Really? I might try for that Barbarella idea I also had, then. (No flying cars, sadly.)

I don't recall any case of somebody taking more than one prize, but it's certainly possible... if you enter more than once. Who gets what prizes is up to the judges, of course.

Speaking of, I'm still looking for volunteer judges this month...

Being an ETO and probably the person that holds the record for being a judge (is there such a thing) I can vouch for the fact that most judges will usually pick your best render for that month (if it's in the running) and use that one for their choice. It IS possible but highly unlikely that you will win two prizes for the month. Unless you were the only one to enter. And that's pretty unlikely.
If you get two more judges I'll judge this month rob.

Jeepz, you were a judge last June. Like I said, it only happens to Ganthor ...

He pulled off the same coup in July 2011 ...

And you just KNOW he's adjusting the knobs on a robot someplace right now!

"Updating the pulps" is very much in the 1970s style, and I do like what you've done with the idea!

I don't see the Skydome in the image - the corridor sections get in the way - but you have more than enough freebies to qualify anyway.

I do have another judge, but he isn't a member here...

I do believe, back on page one, that I promised a MINI-CONTEST this month. Well, here it is...

    The Crossover Story

We've all done it at some time or another - put elements from two (or more) different works into the same setting. Star Destroyer vs. Borg Cube? Marty McFly overshooting his target time and ending up playing the Game of Thrones? Cylons joining the Men in Black ... or enrolling at Hogwarts? Or maybe your crossover is even less plausible than any of those? Who cares, as long as it's entertaining!

In keeping with this month's theme, please use at least one sci-fi or SF story in your crossover. However, you aren't limited to retro sci-fi for the mini-contest.

Use what you need to use - I know that most of the freebie uniforms out there need paid base clothing - but please use more free items than paid items.

The person who submits the best entry gets a $15 Daz GC, paid for out of my own pocket. The Mini-Contest closes at 23:59, Friday, May 24 - you have one week to enter. Please mention whether your entries are for the Mini-Contest or the monthly Challenge.

EDIT: The deadline for the Mini-Contest is extended to Monday evening, May 27.

And I'm sure you can do a better job than this:
