Complaint:  Rain, rain, rain.  It's been raining here all day long.  More than a drizzle, not quite a downpour, just cold October rain.

'Nother Complaint: Budget overrun!!!  Expensive month.  I was already behind on my budget then I "got remembered" that October is when I have to renew my driver's license and car registration and inspection, and pay my GoDaddy domainname & e-mail account bills.  My wireless router died and had to be replaced, I had to get a new hard drive too.  Plus I've been finding nearly daily "cain't-pass-it-up" sale prices in the DAZ catalog.  I've had to have an oil painting reframed (I'm in the wrong business, I should be making frames!).  Doctor's appointments have conspired to attack my wallet. I've been eating out too often.   Aaaand I've bought a couple small but indulgent pre-birthday* presents for myself.  blush

*Note: "pre-birthday" is not quite an "un-birthday", they're just an impatience to indulge one's self in the weeks before one's birthday.  They can be dangerous to your bank account.

early night tnite.  body pillows calling for snuggls, roll up in fleecy

  • Amazon shipped me an opened 1080 Ti with most of the protective covers missing. Fine, I don't mind "technically-new" and they wouldn't repack a defective card as new.

Install it, PC won't boot. Won't even click. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH I fried my motherboard. Unplug card, boots. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH I broke my GPU slot. Plug my old card back in, boots.

Yep, they repacked a defective card and sent it to me as new. After making me wait for new stock.

Was it from Amazon, or did they just broker the sale?  There are many other shops that sell through them.  If you don't pay attention, you might not notice it.  Usually, somewhere in the description it will say something like, "Sold and shipped by ...".  File a complaint.

Sold by Amazon.com LLC. I'm really disappointed in them right now. On the plus side easy returns.

...this is why with companies like Amazon or Newegg I specify only that they have to sell directly.  It may be a bit more espensive, but the peace of mind is worth it.

...happaned here as well but fortuantely after I got back form my day's errands and got back home.  Started with the usual light drzzle, but then opwnws up and came down in buckets for nearlty 30 min.

As to the earlier errands, finally found a nice stainless steel 2 qt saucepan (with lid) at Ross for12$ (new) as well as a full shower curtain/liner/hook ensemble for less than half the price as I've seen in other stoies for just the outer curtian (and both the liner and curtain have metal grommets instead of just reinforced holes for the hooks).  Need to thank the friend who gave me the suggestion.

Morning. Cool west winds blowing the tropical storms out to sea, some rain actually hit the ground last night everything in our garden looks a little perkier. Fat rosebuds  have sprouted everywhere you look...  :)

...just had a big rain and hailstorm go through here a few minutes ago. Very dark and ominous looking clouds outside.  No thunder and lightning though.

...earlier this afternoon got a message that the hot water was going to be turned off as there was a leak that needed to be fixed.  The message also said it would only be a short while so I figured it wouldn't be an issue for when I made dinner later.

Well 19:00 rolls around and I decide time to cook up that nice steamy pot of Jambalaya I got all the fixins' for.  So got out the new saucepan I bought and a big skillet to brown the sausage in.  After opening the sausage and putting it on the cutting mat to slice it, went to wash my hands so I could get a few other things I needed only to discover there was no water at all, hot or cold. Now I could have dealt with no hot water  as I don't really need it for cooking, but nothing?   Went down to check what was going on to learn there was a "complication" (of course, there always is).  I was told it would be a bit longer before it would be back on.  Well by now it was approaching 20:00 so decided to put everything away since it would take over an hour to prepare, and either go out for dinner (expensive in this part of town) or head to the nearby market and get something that doesn't require water for preparation. Not wanting to drop nearly 20$ for dinner (average price of 14 - 16$ + tip) opted for the latter. Now not a big fan of Safeway as their prices are on average about 15% than than the local chain (Fred Meyer) or Trader Joe's (even with the Club Card), and I'm not very fond of their selection (particularly meats, fish, & such) but they are a 4 min instead of 30 min walk away (and as I mentioned above it's been a pretty chilly wet and sometimes breezy day that has lasted into evening).

So ended up settling on a pizza as the deli mac and cheese was extremely high in sodium (not a big fan of over salted food taste wise) while the the pizza was not.  The other good thing is one 12" pizza is good for two meals for me (so I have lunch, or "college student brekkie").

Now there are a few items Safeway has that I feel are better than the other two markets and one of them is their house brand pizza as they have a much better selection than just:  Pepperoni (which gives me terrible indigestion) The Works (which includes pepperoni), Veggie (meh), and Multi Cheese (that always seems to Include cheddar which is NOT a pizza cheese).  So Picked up a roasted chicken and garlic white sauce pizza (I've had this one before and they are surprisingly very good, they also have my fave, sausage and carmelised onion as well), some rolled oats for brekkie tomorrow, and a couple cans of homestyle chicken soup for lunches as they were on sale.

When I got back I saw a note by the lift that mentioned the water would not be back on until between 22:00 and 23:00. So at the very least I'll have hot water for the morning shower and cold water to boil for my morning tea.

As I was walking up I saw others entering the building with packs of boutique bottled water, not the gallon jug that is cheaper by volume and the same "quality" (it's all just bottled from municipal sources anyway).  Apologies but not buying into the biggest consumer scam since pet rocks and canned air.  Anyway I have enough chilled water in a pitcher in the fridge to get me by until the building's system is turned on again. which should be in the next 30 min or so (always be prepared).

Pain of a day there, but I also love a bit of chilled leftover pizza. It never seems to taste as good warmed-over as right out of the fridge to me.
