I want to adopt a male black cat but landlady says no cats.

May not be a good idea, anyway.  it may go after your fishies while you're at work!

Buy a lot of mice and let them loose.  Then ask for a cat.

You have to remember in an shared house not everyone wants cats around.      I have a friend who is allergic to cats,  and rarely visits because I have 2.

I can assure you that it is true that cats seem to make a bee line for the person who is allergic, regardless of how many people are in the room.

Cats are aloof and are attracted to people who appear to be aloof too.smiley

Complaint:  An old customer of mine (I mean really old agewise, 80s or 90s) came by with a sick computer and asked if I could fix it.  I looked at it and groaned.  It's a Vista.  And not just Vista, but Vista Basic on a 2GB maximum machine. surprise The complaint was that the guy's banking site doesn't work with his InternetExplorer web browser anymore.  And for some reason GoogleChrome confuses him too.  I explained to him and his wife that Vista was no longer supported, and that IE-9 (newest version of IE available on Vista) is no longer viable for all web sites, and security is a problem, and 2GB is making this machine very slow and that any new computer option is probably going to cost him at least $600 in the end, and be a big learning curve for them.

Against my better judgement I agreed to try to resolve their issues.  I installed MalwareBytes in SafeMode and it found 637 PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) and removed them.  I ran their NortonSecurity in SafeMode in about 2 hours and found no problems.  But when I booted back into full mode Norton complained about incompatible non-Norton security products and wouldn't start.  I removed MalwareBytes and used Nortons removal tool to remove all Norton products, then reinstalled Norton and activated the license and it seems to work.  The machine is as slow as mollases in January, and there is no reasonable hardware improvement path left.  I remember maxing them out at 2GB 5 years ago.

I have made GoogleChrome the new default web browser and it does work on their banking site, but Chrome will also not receive any new updates on Vista.  So, I guess all I can do is explain to them how to use GoogleChrome and remind them that they are working at end-of-life of this machine and to not be surprised if more sites stop working or their disk dies.

This is one of the reasons I am trying to quit being the local computer doctor.  I'd rather they just buy a new machine, but even if they can afford it I realize that it's not so easy to retrain themselves to use it.  Hell, I'm a computer "expert" and I floundered with every new OS upgrade. frown

Nearly Monday here. Is it warm yet?  Slept on and off  for nearly two days and it does seem to be a little warmer here. Was feeling so cold last week thought my teeth would fall out but I guess old brick buildings get damp and damp gets cold and then so do I, seem to be feeling fingers for a couple of days so either warmer or less sleeps deprived :)

I keep wanting to get a recording of the Dvorak Serenades (strings and wind) but they don't seem to be much recorded these days.

Makes me feel like a seahorse attached to a seafrond in a gentle sea.

Dvorak, created some amazing music, big and small.

A rumor has started that my home will be torn down some time next year.  I hope it is not true.

Morning. The distant but flashy drama of a tropical storm giving way to gentle rain glossing tile and tin and tarmac'd streets a little after daybreak

...what is the socket on your motherboard? you may be able to get a Xeon cheaper than that i7.

If my retroactive benefits ever come through I'm building a dual high core count (at least 10 per CPU) Xeon system with 128 GB of memory.
