She looks quite nice but this will be almost the first Pro bundle I won't be getting on day one.  Maybe later as and when I see it with a huge(r) discount.  Nothing there, really, that I don't have a boat-load of already.

We do seem to be in a period of complaining about everything.

I do think that O8 isn't as distinct from V8 as O7 and V7. In this case Olympia 8 and Victoria 8 look like sisters while Victoria 7 and Olympia 7 look unrelated. I've compared the promos side by side and they are much more similar than previous generations. Olympia 8 is shorter and a bit more robust (larger in dimensions) than V8 but the faces are very similar. Much more difference between V7 and O7.

This is not to say that I think O8 is unattractive, but i do think I can start with V8 and the morph packs and make O8. Then again if you didn't like V8 or had masculinity issues or such, I don't think O8 will change your mind.

    As always, YMMV.

Reading all the comments makes me feel like I've dropped into the Twilight Zone. I think she looks stunning!! Really beautiful!

My first impression, as far as the Pro Bundle goes, was that they tried to make her a mix of Gia 6, Olympia 6 & 7, and Bethany 7. Perhaps Rune 7?, not sure. Sort of that "Warrior Greek Goddess" feel, which doesn't really match up with how she's been portrayed in the past. Might get her.

As for the "masculine features", I don't see them. She looks like the average woman to me (texture doesn't look good in the promos IMHO), which also doesn't fit her style. Both V8 and O8 were supposed to be "idealised" women.

I already have the O6 pro bundle but not the add on or O7. Unfortunately at this time I don't have the $$ to pick up O8 so it looks like I'll be passing on this deal. Fortunately I was able to get the V8 special when it hit (although my credit card still hates me for that), just not this time.

Meh. Very disappointing. If I saw her in the gallery I'd eagerly pass her by thinking her to be V8 or some other so similar to not really matter. I can't even be bothered to waste my time with morphs on her, cheaper to not even bother. Its going to be a good year for my bank account as 8 has done nothing for me so far personally. I'm sure she'll sell like hot cakes, prompting daz to continue giving us the same ole same ole.

Pretty disappointed too.  Face does resemble V8.  Perhaps it's the masculine looking face.

Guess we're stuck with Genesis 3 for feminine faced females.  Not that big of a deal, on the bright side my spending has plummeted with the Genesis 8 release.  smiley

I see the measurements are from Messure Metrics ...  I have MM, but as far as I know it isn't compatible with Genesis 8 and I don't see a new version.  Is something in the works?

G3F and G8F have the same starting face so if you don't like the 'masculine' look of Victoria 8 or Olympia 8 just don't dial in their heads.

I really wish DAZ would fix that stupid damn bug in the cart where if you have free items, your $6 coupon doesn't fully apply. It's ridiculous and has been going on for far too long.

I know its an old issue but have you ever reported it?

I actually really like her.  I like her more curvy, muscular body and I really don't see the whole masculine thing.  She looks like a real person instead of the more super model, "I'm stunningly beautiful" look that we have been getting for forever (nothing wrong with that look either, other than the fact that after awhile, they tend to run together.) I don't buy many characters anymore, I have more than enough super beautiful, perfect, not really reality looking characters.  I want characters that aren't perfect, aren't necessarily the artificial beauty we see so much of.

Having said all that, I am still super disappointed in the offer as I already own 6 and 7 so buying the pro bundle holds zero incentive for me.  I like most of what's there but, the offer is worthless to me as an incentive to buy.  Anyone who doesn't have those bundles, or those characters, is getting an amazing deal.  Those of us who already own the characters? Meh, I may eventually pick up the base model when it comes around as a good deal in the future but I'm not blowing that much money on a pro deal when I am not benefitting from the incentives.  There are a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff or more in the two pro bundles they are giving away.  Pretty sure there isn't going to be a discount big enough to make up for the fact that I already have that stuff...

Call it complaining, if you want. Genesis 8 is not winning me over. Olympia 8 looks bad. I think we're confusing warranted criticism with complaining.

No its not really warranted criticism.  It personal opinions.  I think she looks great.

It would be criticism if DAZ said "Olympia 8 is going to do this and be this", but didn't. If the product is just relased with no predifned promise/ criteria and you don't like it, that's complaining. You certainly have that right.

Put another way, talking about failure to meet objective, agreed criteria is criticism, failure to meet your subjective expectations (e.g. Olympia 8 looks bad) is complaining.

How is it complaining if you're simply giving your honest opinion/feedback about a new item?

I think she is Ok but I'd still buy the Victoria 8 plus Elizabeth over any Olympia 8 character combo but that is down to personal preference.

As for as what's included in the Pro Bundle well the Burlesque and the Burlesque textures are the only thing worthwhile really, even if you don't do pin-up style renders and that is a legitimate complaint.

I kinda like Olympia 8, even with the eyebrows.

But the less I say about the bow and archery poses in the pro bundle, the better.

One of these days they'll find someone who understands archery.

it is amusing don't you think that usually the complaint is each figure is toooo pretty/perfect not average everday looking or is youngish looking needs to be more mature older looking or toooo skinny and then they give us that or try to and then still complaints saying she's ugly or fat or old or butch the only female figure I've seen relised that everyone raved over was Star. Oh well can't please everyone. I also look at the related  extras you can buy which gives you more an idea of the newer character/s some interesting like the add on clothing textures or poses and so on as sometimes these better display the potential of the new characters and there are a few there that show off both the tough gritty side as well as more softer side of Olympia, Victoria and Gen8 as well as some of the add on characters. Got pro yeah maybe could've just gone for the base but want a few things to get going yeah she and Vicky can use older stuff but still nice to have few of their own things too and I think the archery set is ok too has that action comic suoer hero vibe feel to it would buy some of the extras if could afford

not only that, but the offer is pretty mehhh....especialy if you already own o6 & o7.

    I agree...

    yeh!

    +1

I really like O7, and never used O6 all that much; I'll get around to converting them to G8, but this bundle offers nothing new; besides if past experience is anything to go buy, the addon characters use merchant resource textures, and well... Those I can make myself. I'll see what the renders look like - of O8; maybe I'll use my $6 coupon, seeing as I don't always use either nevermind both.

If she has default UVs I might get, if not wont be buying.

She really does look an awful lot like Victoria 8. I hate to say this but it's probably down to a little laziness on DAZ's part. Why put the effort in to make a unique looking figure when they probably think people will buy the pro bundle anyway. If Eva 8 (or whoever) is another same face then I'll be pretty much done with anymore Daz Original figures for this generation.

She's OK. It's promo art that doesn't present her well enough.

Again with the comments about 'masculine features.'

    Oy.

For me, the 2 extra characters that are always included in these bundles are pretty much useless to me.....no offense meant to any vendors who put out quality work in their standalone characters, but these are plain janes that you could always pick up later. Right now, they just inflate the price of the pack and really don't add anything.  There's also a bit of an identity crisis too with all the different styles of clothing.  I guess it's an attempt to show her versatility. Queen of Olympus, scifi crewmate, barbarian, cocktail waitress.....

Just the main character, the new hairs, the relevant Warrior poses, and the Desert Watcher outfit are the only things that interest me personally and fit her particular theme. Then the addon textures for the Desert Watcher outfit.  But if it's cheaper to get the bundle instead of picking what i want, then I'll get the bundle to save money.  Have to see how it adds up for the bundle with the addon textures.

Plus, like others I already have the Oly 6 Pro Bundle, but then I only cherry picked a few things for Oly 7 that I even wanted (her, the hairs and a couple outfits) and I have Cassia for G2F from that other bundle cuz I love her and her options. So I feel GTG with old stuff already and am not anxious to get duplicates of all that. I won't even dl all the old stuff.  Wish they'd offer an alternative option.

Not complaining, just my opinion and an observation.

I like her but I feel her head and body don't match. She's got a bod with curves and should have softer features to go with the higher percentage of body fat. The skin also looks really familiar to me as well. I feel like I've seen it before.

I probably will pick up the base but don't need the warrior or pinup content.  I also think the eyebrows are somewhat distracting. Maybe they are sharp and sculpted or too curved. Fiber mesh is a step in the right direction but I think it will be a while before realism is achieved. I actually think a bit of a blend of painted on and hair might look less harsh. Overall I think gen 8 is a step in the right direction. So much more realistic to me than the 7 women.

I wasn't thrilled with the pro bundle, so I just went a la carte. Liked the figure, just not the pro bundle content so much. Got both hairs, one outfit, Olympia 8 herself. Not crazy about the brows but I have fibermesh brows that will work just as well (thanks Redz). I already had Olympia 6 and 7 so there wasn't much in the way of offers for me anyway for a bundle, so I got what I wanted, it was cheaper than the pro bundle and I'm satisfied ;).

I guess what I want to know is: what do the character names _mean_? Victoria is the flagship model. Sure, that's fine. Josie is the teenage model. Great! But I thought Olympia was the Greek goddess, the Queen... not the pseudo-Greek action girl. I know a lot of characters were new with 7 so I'm trying not to count too much on Eva the supermodel and Arabella the vampire and Lilith the sexy witch and Bethany the chubby and Karen the idealized superheroine. But Gia is the athletic one, right?

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,704

Olympia has always been the petite curvaceous youthful looking baby-faced woman more of the Frazetta style body. She's always been fantasy pinup.

She looks like Michael 7 to me. Whether it's because Olympia 8 has a masculine face or Michael 7 has a feminine face, well, that's up to interpretation ;)

The character looks like Alyssa Milano to me at least face-wise.
