I've seen TWO updates for 4.9.4 in DIM, so I don't know why it's not showing up for some folks yet.
What about the issues with G2?
well norton antivirus is now considering it a very high risk
Avast fought the snot out of me last night over 4.9.4. Ultimately, I had to disable Avast, and add every conceivable connotation of DAZ Studio to the exemption list while it was off, before I could reinstall DS. Otherwise, Avast refused to permit the executible file from even unpacking. These anti-virus programs are getting more and more like viruses themselves.
Huh — I had the same problem the other day with AVG and the Dynamic Control plugin installer. No problems with the D|S installer itself, but the DCC installer was prevented from running and locked until I found the feature in AVG to switch from "auto-nuke" to "ask me first".
Then an hour later, I got the popup from AVG giving it the all-clear... argleblargle.
SONAR is a guess, not an actual piece of malware. Scane with something else, or wait to install, if you are concerned but I would heavily discount those warnings for soemthing I was inclined to trust (for an unkown source I would treat them more seriously).
...OK haven't read through the entire thread, so how does one go about downloading 4.9.4.117 and all the G8 essentials without the DIM. My workstation is no longer online so I need to manually DL to a notebook and transfer the files to the workstation so I can install with the DIM in offline mode. That means I need to find where I can download the .zip from. Doesn't work form the main page as when I click Download for the Windows 64 bit version, it takes me to my Product Library.
...and could we please find some way fo get the spell check to flag typos in words that are shorter than 4 letters? Or find a better one (or just go back to using the browser's default spell check)?
Oh Folks,
-->
compared to the scientific descriptions of the human skin, as demonstrated in the German thread in this forum, the settings still (since G3) are terribly into the wrong direction.
Furthermore the bump still is a b/w and a little contrasted copy of the diffuse. It displays the light and shadow for only a certain light direction, instead representing the real 3dimensional topology only.
So we have to try to modify the delivered skins as best as we can to find a halfways satisfying setting.
that is actually a very good question so you click on the technolodgy link at the top of the page takes to the info page about the various generations figures, and blah blah blah at the the top of that page it has get started link for daz studio which takes to a page with download and download install links for studio and different parts - download install obviously opens dim BUT the just Download button instead of downloading installer like you want does not and instead opens up your product page section and may go into loading hell and just list all your stuff. So the quickest route is just go to your product library page and in search type daz studio 4, pro should be close to top and if you scroll down the info section you should see in the content G8 so you have the right one selected and the manual download buttons work here just checked there's a scene builder file, default resources file, 32 and 64 bit versions and mac versions, don't see a beta version that's probably dim only, looks like a few other products have been added now besides essentials too including West Park
NVIDIA's MDL-Handbook, Chapter 5, Section 6.
I noticed that the skins on some new Genesis 8 models have glossy weight and top coat weight turned off and instead chose to use dual lobe specular. I suppose the idea is that the first lobe replaces glossiness and the second lobe replaces top coat to achieve a similar effect. Or something like that.
Setting Dual Lobe Specular Ratio to 1.00 uses only Specular Lobe 1 Roughness.
Setting Dual Lobe Specular Ratio to 0.00 uses only Specular Lobe 2 Roughness.
Setting it somewhere between 0 and 1 will blend the two together so you could have a surface that has both sharp shiny reflections as well as matte reflections at the same time.
As for some other changes, I'm still not sure what "Visible in Simulation" is supposed to do. Any documentation around? Maybe it's not being used yet?
What's funny is, as far as I can tell, dual lobe essentially gives us up to four flipping specular elements.
Im not sure why we would want that many, but cool.
I suspect dual lobe operates in a different way.
But one upside might be more easily shifting between dry and wet/oily skin.
