Is there a starter essentials for Genesis 8? Where is it?

It should be available either through Daz Connect or DIM - or even in your product library (mine even happens to be at the top of said product library.)

Nope. Can't find it anywhere. (edit: Actually, it is in DIM. But not connect... edit2: Ok, had to manually hit update metadata)

I have a recipe for a yummy dip made from mashed baked beans with chilli.

Place baked beans in a food processor. Process until smooth. Transfer to a bowl. Fold through yoghurt. Sprinkle with parsley. Serve with vegetable sticks and green beans.

When I first saw V7 I thought she was so drop dead gorgeous that I actually forced myself to (try) to learn DS after years of Poser, but I'm not impressed with the looks of V8 at all. I'll probably get the G8 morphs & expressions but really, I have soooo much older content I haven't even used yet and characters and morphs for them, I really don't see a need for a new character... And if I do find myself using G8, I will wait for PA characters for it that I like better than V8 or create my own morphs. Really not impressed, sorry...  I think I will save a lot of money this year laugh

I been waiting for you to chime in @Wonderland. I have V8 in my cart but looking over all the V7 stuff I have from here and Rendo, I just do see the rush right now. I'm with you I may get the morphs and expressions but I'm still not convinced. There are at least 10 characters I want to get for V7 over at Rendo. so I'm saving for that.

It's not just an A pose, the legs are spread apart too. What a nightmare that's gonna be for creating shoes. Is there a pose available where her feet are flat on the ground? (For the base figure)

I absolutely loathe baked beans. It's like little fat maggots squishing between my teeth. My go-to "utterly broke, but need to eat" is generally bananas on toast - but I often get funny looks when I mention that, so I substitute "baked beans" as they seem to be a universal food item. laugh And I don't think we have ramen noodles over here, but they are possibly similar to the Maggi's Two Minute Noodles which are dirt cheap, but I can't abide them LOL.

Oh and welcome to the "I need that new shiny thing, but I'm tight on my budget so can't buy it...but I CAN eat baked beans for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next two weeks, so I'll buy it anyway" club. :)

    jakiblue...

I resent your implication that I must eat only baked beans. I will have you know I have over 40 ways to make ramen noodles for 3 meals a day too. :)

A toasted banana sandwich used to be one of my favourite lunches, especially with a bit of brown sugar on the banana.

I have to say I'm not impressed. I first thought that they went back to unimesh model, since V8 is so masculin. If I was mean, I'd say she looks like a dude. I mean, remove makeup and bikinis, and give her a business suit and 5 o'clock shadow, and nobody can tell a difference.

Not seeing it. I'm glad she's not a babe with exaggerated botox lips, she's actually someone you could see on the street and she'd fit in quite well.

Finally!! Someone else who loves the whole banana's and toast thing! I used to love plain ol' banana sandwiches too (not toasted) with a sprinkle of sugar. :D Then there was the good ol' open grill toasted peanut butter, bananas, honey and sultanas for lunch thing. LOL

You've obviously never had my wife's baked beans! Green peppers, onions, and bacon. Sooooo good.

Ramen can be good sometimes. Rinsing the noodle brick off can get some of the junky stuff out of it. But what I used to do, was crush up a ramen brick in a bowl, and place the bowl under a coffee maker, and run two cups of water through the coffee maker. Let it sit a few minutes to thicken, add whatever you want...boom, a 3 minute super lazy and cheap meal.

Question: If you have all of the items in a Pro Bundle for for a past Victoria, but didn't actually buy the Pro Bundle outright, does that count towards the discount for V8? I got some of the Pro Bundle stuff on various sales over the years and completed the set. But I don't see any discount for V8 in my cart. She's sitting at $66.13.

When I still ate sugar/carbs a banana sandwich used to be a favorite thing of mine! The variation i grew up on (it sounds gross i know!) was thinly spread mayo on the bread with the halved bananas inside. It was really really good!

I don't think so. Other people are reporting that whhile they have everything in the pro bundles, they bought them separately and it doesn't count as a "Pro bundle" purchase. Also it only counts Genesis line of Victoria pro bundles - not a Victoria 4 pro bundle.

That's what I have, namely V5's complete set.

I suppose with the offer of free pro bundles, I could add the V5 pro bundle to my cart even though I have it all. This way it will count towards any future weirdo promos that Daz likes to do that might count such things. Gotta game somehow. It certainly wouldn't hurt.

    That's assuming I get this. I still haven't decided.

Been that way for me since Genesis 3.  But if people want, it's their money.

I will say the backward compatibility is critical and good to see DAZ doing that.

Soon I hope. It is in testing. Was supposed to make launch window but we missed it by a few days submitting late:( Oh and the new Pose Converter is future proof, meaning you can use all Genesis 8 poses on Genesis3 as well. We reversed engeneered the scripts so essentially its a two in one product:)

    best news of the day!

So far, I haven't seen that Victoria 8 offers anything that I need not already provided by Victoria 7, and far too little of what I do need. Really, eyelash movement? Only if I stick the camera in the girl's face. Backwards compatibility? That isn't the truth when V4 clothes are not supported, and it takes a convoluted series of odd steps to get G3F clothes to fit. Thanks to Sickleyield for that tutorial. And V8 has an even more primitive game-developer-friendly and still-artist-unfriendly mesh. I suppose we'll have to subdivide by 4 now to get her to look as round as a human.

I won't say no. But I can't say yes until HD, muscularity morphs, vascularity morphs, and especially Shape Shift 4 is out, assuming that poor Zev0 feels like making one more script package for yet another blatant marketing ploy. If all those come out, then I can test V8 to see if upgrading my central characters once again (for the fourth time) is worth it. Which means I'll be withholding final judgment until December.

Yes, I know. No one is forcing me to buy V8. I can still keep using V7, or V6 for that matter. But we all know that V7 items will now slow to a crawl, and be gone from the DAZ store within a month. I'll have to buy older items (perhaps there's a reason I haven't picked them up already) or shop at one of the other stores just to get cool new gear for my obsolete Vickis.

Do you have the G8 essentials. They are free to download. Just test it.

Except for the fact that we will almost certainly be offered a G8 clone for G3 ;). I'll even buy that even tho I've gotten Vicky 8. I still love and will use the G3s

I actually really like Victoria 8's eyes. I prefer the slender long look of them. I've never liked the oversized lips and eyes.

V8's face looks realistic. I like that. Not sure about her body. Looks once again like a female action figure out of a comicbook store. I realy like the default G8. Best default figure ever.

V8 is the first character to come out in a long time that I didn't feel like I had to shrink the size of the eyes ;). The G3s have huge eyes by and large. If not the entire eye, at least the irises. I really like Vicky 8's face and I don't think her eyes look dead either ;). And that is adorable @ Digital Lite Design :).

Was playing around with UVs and skins. Unfortunately Cayman's UV products don't work right with the new generation (they are fantastic with G3's.) But I did manage to get the Djinn skin from Ahmad for G3M on V8. I think she makes a badass djinn!  (Click and zoom in for more detail.)

So now I'm confused. You need to get V8 to have G8 be backward compatible? And you need to use the V8 morph on every G8 character to have it backward compatible?

  • exstarsisexstarsis Posts: 2,128

No, you can apply G3 skins to G8 out of the box. And put G3 clothes on G8 (with autofit popup).

So what is this hair on Victoria 8? I thought it would be in the pro bundle but it doesn't seem like the same ponytail

I agree. I really love how the eyes are more normal/average sized. The lips are still quite huge though, IMO. I'm working on some mouth morphs but can't figure out how to do morphs on the mouth without jacking up the teeth. It's infuriating. I've tried a dozen times now to create mouth morphs but as soon as I load them into Daz and open G8's mouth - BAM, weird messed up teeth. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. Had the same issue when I tried my hand at doing G3F morphs a while back. Never did figure out a work around.

Is there a "mouth realism" morph that defaults to on like with G3?

There is a "mouth realism" morph, but as far as I can tell it stays off until you slide the morph slider?
