I like Victoria 8's looks, but her outer eyebrows lack distinguishable strands, and that's a hassle. When I saw divamakeup's renders, I became covetous of V8's hand tendons; so, I went through the G3F HD add-ons I have, and I picked the most defined hand tendons I could (it was between Gia and Arabella; I picked Arabella 'cause she doesn't add a six-pack). I disabled limits and set it at 200%, and I'm OK now. However, I am still desiring an easier route to expressive expressions on G3F like I see on V8.

Thanks, @AprilYSH for including a G3 fit for Voss Hair. If only Vertigo Ponytail did likewise. The mid-month release doesn't work for me, as my Daz fund is replenished on the 2nd and 4th weeks of the month. I'll be back in a week or so.

I don't think the model is ugly but, I'm really up in the air as whether I want to buy it at this point. I'm a novice, who just started using Daz around this time last year. I've already gotten the V7 Pro Bundle for free through another offer. I have almost all of the Genesis 3 base models through sales. Ophelia and Dante are the only pro bundles that I've paid *almost* full price for, buying them upon release.

The only feature that I see which really intrigues me, is the auto musculature upon posing, not that the other features aren't welcome. I'm just hesitant to buy this pro bundle, when it seems inevitable that it will also be offered up as a freebie in some sale down the road. My only big concern about not switching over, is how the new genesis 8 clothing will translate to gen 3 models. I know going from genesis 3 to genesis 2, did not work well, last I tried it. Hopefully the I won't have to buy any further fitting morph stuff to get it to work right.

A clone is for projection of a shape when converting, it isn't set up for use as a shape - and if you alter it 9by adjusting rigging to shape) you may break its primary role, not to mention that an update will overwrite the changes.

I had this happen with a few g3f was driving me crazy then I tried updating the metadata for each one and it fixed it https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/241576 ;Rain Of Terror

sometimes the fingers were longer too and twisted around like those people that grow them very very long and sometimes their eyes were popping out of their head too

I've seen distored bodies in a few of the previous clones, but never fingers... is this a new thing moving forward?

If so, does that mean V4 heels can finally be fixed?

It's probably because the fingrs are so much further away from the base figure's, due to the A pose isntead of a T pose.

I'm glad DAZ went back to a more realistic look like Genesis 2. Genesis 3 might have had many modeling and texturing advancements but so many characters released for it looked like a cartoon or hybrid realistic Disney/Pixar characters, especially the kid and teen models. Hopefully this realism trend carries throughout the Genesis 8 line. I wish that GenX was still a possibility and hopefully somebody else picks up where that left off because this already looks like a much nicer modeling platform to start from based on updated features alone.

May have already been asked, but can I assume that Zev0's skin builder pro for Genesis 3 works fine on the new Genesis 8 UV?

Speaking of Zev0, ETA on G3 to G8 pose converter? wink

I don't have V8 yet (debating if I can afford her), but here's Genesis 8 basic female with some shader adjustments.

I really love the added pose control options. The realistic facial expressions, the added toe movements, the more realistic bends - really a great figure! I'm really pleased with even the basic female so far.

Edit - Check out that hand detail! The tendons and increased realism looks great, imo!

I like the new look looks different to previous versions which is something we do want right and not the same repeated again looks like someone you could pass in the street too

Soon I hope. It is in testing. Was supposed to make launch window but we missed it by a few days submitting late:( Oh and the new Pose Converter is future proof, meaning you can use all Genesis 8 poses on Genesis3 as well. We reversed engeneered the scripts so essentially its a two in one product:)

    !

Why A-pose instead of T-pose this time around? That seems like an interesting choice.

Please forgive the Ignorance, but when they say 'backward compatable', could that mean that I can update my character which is a G1 Victoria 5 figure and have her look exactly the same, especially the face and she can still wear all the bits and bobs, some of which is very old?

    ...noi, no, no.

I finally got Skin builder Pro 3 for G3F, along with GenX 3.and earlier, the Growing Up Morphs for G3, as well as a number of morph resource kits.  I now feel well equipped to create the characters I want and need off of G3 without making a massive investment in content.  Not going to throw away the investment I have for the latest "shiny" and have to go through this all over once again, particularly as I am now on an extremely limited budget. This happened far too many times over recent years. Time to put the foot down and "say enough is enough".There is no way I can "keep up with the Jonses" anymore . I am done.

Skin builder will work for G8, you just have to build on G3 and save your presets and apply them to the G8 figure.

I'm still installing home from work so late after 130am so probably hopefully get to play tomorrow but think facegen stuff should work too or at least skins made for g2 or 3 with it wonder what your skins would look like

  • Zev0Zev0 Posts: 7,122

There will be a G8 version of SkinBuilder, where you can save directly on Genesis 8. There will also be a few changes to match the seperate lashes and new shaders etc. So for those who have the existing one this will be like a discounted upgrade Price. This version has to be released as the Genesis 3 version's MR licence only applies to Genesis 3, and is not Genesis 8 MR ready.

Definitely without a doubt, get the Platinum Club membership. Go for the quarterly to start with as it's a bit less expensive than the yearly, but you'll be stoked when you see prices on stuff. You'll get extra discounts on the DAZ Originals, the weekly PC items are under $5 and you'll get two coupons each month - one to spend $6 on DO's, and one to get $6 off a total of $18 for PA stuff and DO's.

If you've already done that, get the Head Morphs and the Body Morphs for Genesis 8 female (which is free in your DAZ Studio). Genesis 8 Female base is hopeless without them.

Oh and welcome to the "I need that new shiny thing, but I'm tight on my budget so can't buy it...but I CAN eat baked beans for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next two weeks, so I'll buy it anyway" club. :)

Thanks a lot guys i'm getting v8...anything else i should get? i'm tight on budget so won't spend again for few months so i want all essential things now to make  good characters...any other morphs i would need?

    jakiblue...

I resent your implication thayt I must eat only baked beans. I will have you know I have over 40 ways to make raman noodles for 43 meals a day too. :)

    noodles are empty calories

baked beans have fiber and lower your cholesterol are heart healthy heart and they have the added bonus of much fart power!!!

Now that you mention it, I'm actually surprised no one has thought of adding baked beans to the options of dirt, wounds and wet body layers....

You.... are a sick, sick man.

    I like you already. :)

Well, if no-one else get's there first, it's something I might have to put together at some point - models are getting more complex too, Victoria in baked beans, female centaurs in mushy peas, mermaids will have to settle for soggy houmous or mashed potato and that leaves raspberry jam for the Minotaur (yes, I'm aware Houmous would be more culturally apt for the Minotaur, but raspberry jam on fish?).

Hmzzzz, the bones in the feet of genesis 8 are completly different then those of gen 3, that will be a challenge when fitting high heels.................especially without templates for the whole G8 stack!

My banner shows a discount for having bought one Victoria Pro Bundle, which is incorrect. It should be two. Or are they only counting the Genesis based Vickies for this offer?

Only Genesis 1, 2 and 3 Byrdie (Vicky 4 doesn't count) :). I'm showing as having only two pro bundles, but I actually DO only have two pro bundles...I bought V5 and M5 together as single figures ;).

She won't look the same as you'd have to transfer the skin and shape -- which is the case for going between any generation. Clothing, on the other hand, will fit relatively well depending on what it is.

What was the reasoning behind doing the eyelashes as a separate figure? What are the advantages to that?

Are they perhaps fiber mesh figures?

So far I'm torn... I don't really use Genesis but in cases like new figure releases I usually bend and get figures like Mike, Vickie and a few others here and there but aside from the changes in the rig, better expressions and pose/bend ..... maybe DAZ needs money.  I do like that Connie updated her boots, those went into the cart.  Gotta support my friend.  heart

My first run with genesis 8, since I currently don't have the money to actually buy v8 *grumbles a little* I like her I have to say, this one currently use fwsa Piper skin, french twist hair for genesis 3 females, and Afternoon Trippin for Genesis.

I tried autofit some shoes onto her and had success with some of them (Vigilante Outfit for genesis 3 female, Army Uniform for genesis 3 female, Elven for Genesis 3 Female and Crimson Seas for Genesis 3 Male) the only one that didn't work of those I used was the high heeled Vigilant Outfit boots. I would assume that autofitting shoes are going to be a hit and miss though :)

You don't need to buy a specific character to work with a new generation of figures. If you decide to invest into it, get the morphs if you wish to detail your creations. Then focus on finding better skins and clothing from designers whose work is superior to DAZ Originals.

This, more or less. I was messing about with the new base figure earlier and the two things that really appeal to me about it is that I can use all my G3 textures on it (especially my SB3 textures - I love that product with a passion :) ), and that the expressions are much more realistic (her smile is actually quite believable, which is a bit of a first). I thought the price of the Pro bundle was pretty good when I took my discount into account, and buying it would have given me the V6 bundle free as well. I was quite surprised to realise that I'd never bought that, or half of the stuff in it. I really wanted the face and body morphs and the expressions though, knowing that they'd make the base a lot more versatile when used in conjunction with SB3.

Pondering on how I was going to explain to my husband that we'd be eating noodles on most days for the forseeable but that I would generously allow him to carve the fish finger that the family would share on Sunday, it occurred to me that even though the V8 Pro reduction was a generous one, there was nothing in it that I actually wanted. V8 is nice enough, but nothing special, and there is nothing else in the bundle that I'd rush to buy if had been released as a separate product for V7. I almost never do renders that include gens anyway, and imagine that V8's more realistic facial expression would be the last thing the viewer was looking at if I did. I booted the V8 Pro bundle out of the cart, as well as the V6 Pro bundle (if I hadn't even noticed I didn't own half of it then I'm not going to miss it), and just bought the morphs and expressions.

I've been having an absolute ball creating characters by putting the morphs through SimTenero's randomiser then resurfacing G8 with SB3 mats, and they can all smile without looking like they're chewing on a house brick. V8? Who's she? :)

  • MendomanMendoman Posts: 404

I have to say I'm not impressed. I first thought that they went back to unimesh model, since V8 is so masculin. If I was mean, I'd say she looks like a dude. I mean, remove makeup and bikinis, and give her a business suit and 5 o'clock shadow, and nobody can tell a difference.

    Also improvements are kinda scarse:

    - Better backward compatibility than ever: Uhmm, my G3F content is already 100% compatible with my G3F ladies.

    - New eyelash model: Well, G3F has had fibermesh eyebrows and eyelashes for quite some time now, so nothing new here

    - Even fewer polygons and extra bone removed from her feets. Huh? How that makes the model any better, if it has even less polygons? I thought that other Daz site was for the game content, but me as a still renderer want my models as detailed as possible. If they had given HD morph capability for everyone for G8, I might have been interested, but without that, this change is only a move backwards. What next? A G10 is a cube, and everything is made with HD morphs so you can't do any morphs yourself?

    - New skin: G3F can use those very same shaders, so nothing new here

    - Better bending for shoulders: I already have ultimate V7 bending morphs, that do exactly that, plus much more

    - Only thing that I find even remotely interesting, is that powerpose facial expression system...but I believe G3F will get similar in few months time. If not by DAZ, then by some other party. And well, let's be honest, it's already outdated. It should have been some camera tracking system, where camera follows your face, and change the model's expression accordingly.

Maybe I missed something, but those were the main selling points that I got. I don't know, I suppose I'm kinda sad and glad at the same time. G3F was already so good, that I expected something like soft body physics or something, and when there's nothing new, it's disappointing. I was prepared to start my collection from scratch again, but since there's really nothing new, at least I can be glad that I save a lot of money. More than likely I will eventually move to new G8, but currently I really can't see any reason to.
