It seems the power pose templates have been corrected and posted in DIM as an update.

Really wish I hadn't blown all that money a month ago moving to Genesis 3.

    sigh

Itll be fun moving to Genesis 4 in two years just before Genesis 5 drops.

hahah Well, the longer you wait to switch the cheaper it gets right? Maybe? lol Just a heads up, Victoria 9/Genesis 9 will likely be released June 2019.

This is Monique 7. I think she turned out quite well for a first attempt, just a little kinking at the ends of the fingernails.

She'd look better if I'd remembered to put her lashes back on. This is the original thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/24093/ If I have time tomorrow I may try to write up a quickie updated  tutorial. I can share my helper poses/shapes but not I should think,  the G8 mesh itself that''s used to make the morphs from G3.

    Here's Mei Lin on G8F

Redz this is fantastic, How are you doing this because I can't seem to find the method you referenced in the thread you linked. I am quite on the fence because I have beautiful V7 characters and like most don't want to start all over again, I would invest in V8 if some of my character morphs can be used on her.

  • Just tested to see if G8 works in Carrara. The result: same as G3, crash.

Please forgive the Ignorance, but when they say 'backward compatable', could that mean that I can update my character which is a G1 Victoria 5 figure and have her look exactly the same, especially the face and she can still wear all the bits and bobs, some of which is very old?

She won't look the same as you'd have to transfer the skin and shape -- which is the case for going between any generation. Clothing, on the other hand, will fit relatively well depending on what it is.

Thanks for the reply. Skin is fine but can I not just copy the face shape?

No -- the skin will have to be converted in some fashion. The face shape *may* be transferrable using the Transfer Utility, but I personally haven't tried it yet.

Thanks, Redz and Mgesset, I'll go check those out. I'd love to get some of my favorite character morphs over.

Here's G8F with Ceridwen's skin and some morph dial spinning. Tried to get her close to Ceridwen's shape, but would like to bring her head morph over. This is a bit grainy, but like how it's turning out. Will keep working on this one. I think you can do a lot with just the G8 base and the morph packs. The expression here is "Concentration" from the expression pack.

Looking great. The HD expressions are what makes all the difference IMO. It makes up somewhat for not being able to transfer HD morphs from G3F.

With genesis 3 I tended to avoid much expression because they just look too fake, but with the HD and subd cranked up, finally they look believable.

Others have said the eyes look flat/dead and I'm inclined to agree. I'm not sure the new geometry is an improvement.

Thanks, Redz. I agree that the expressions are a HUGE gain in Gen 8. The posing looks very good too. Perhaps the eye issues can be tweaked. We're just getting to meet this generation and just like the others, I'm sure there will be tricks and tweaks as we get to "know" them.

Basically it involves matching G8F's pose to G3F as much as possible, then you export G8F at base res (without lashes).

Reimport the obj and perform a transfer utility from G3F to your G8F obj.

Fit the converted obj to G3F, and now when you dial a morph on your G3F, it is projected onto your G8F 'wearable'.

I used an additional pose on G3F to get the obj back to G8F's default pose.

Now you can make G3F invisible and export your morphed obj. You can export as many morphs as you like using this set-up.

Reload and zero G8F, and import your new morph target using morph loader pro.

You should now be able to dial in your new morph. To align the bones, you'll probably need to edit the rigging to adjust to shape, then ERC freeze the morph, zero G8F and save the morph.

Simple right?  LOL it's a bit tedious but maybe worth it for favourites until an alternative comes to market.  I suspect we may get legacy shapes as with g3f

The current Genesis 3 NGS works just fine on G8F

I'm just not wild about the new Vicky.

she's attractive, but not "almost impossibly perfect supermodel" attractive which has always been her archetype.

Face looks much more like Lilith/Arabella (two faces i do like very much) but not what I've come to expect of Victoria.

That's great to know! Haven't tried that yet.

@TheKD Haven't tried the Zev0 Growing up yet. Not sure it'll work since it's a morph. Hoping he updates that one too.

How does the transfer utility wrk on dial-spun characters? Or, the real question is how well does it work on characters built from a conglomeration of earlier ported morphs that came in via GenX?

Yep, i posted a piccy using ngs 2 on the genesis 8 base figure maps, (i cant afford V8 til tommorow lol) i bought the face morphs and on a whim decided to see if a character preset i made using the V7 face morphs works on the base genesis figure works ands it does, if that helps anyone?

Elizabeth - https://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-elizabeth-hd-for-victoria-8 rendered in iray with Daz Studio default lights.

I think, she looks great and I like Power Pose a lot - much easier to pose or adjust ready made poses and expressions.

Yeah, Elizabeth is great I nearly bought her too despite that I decided I would stick only to the head, body, & expression packs.

Maybe her body looks great, but the eyes look flat, somehow off. My old childhood doll has better eyes than V8.

I have to say I'm not impressed. I first thought that they went back to unimesh model, since V8 is so masculin. If I was mean, I'd say she looks like a dude. I mean, remove makeup and bikinis, and give her a business suit and 5 o'clock shadow, and nobody can tell a difference.

    Also improvements are kinda scarse:

    - Better backward compatibility than ever: Uhmm, my G3F content is already 100% compatible with my G3F ladies.

    - New eyelash model: Well, G3F has had fibermesh eyebrows and eyelashes for quite some time now, so nothing new here

    - Even fewer polygons and extra bone removed from her feets. Huh? How that makes the model any better, if it has even less polygons? I thought that other Daz site was for the game content, but me as a still renderer want my models as detailed as possible. If they had given HD morph capability for everyone for G8, I might have been interested, but without that, this change is only a move backwards. What next? A G10 is a cube, and everything is made with HD morphs so you can't do any morphs yourself?

    - New skin: G3F can use those very same shaders, so nothing new here

    - Better bending for shoulders: I already have ultimate V7 bending morphs, that do exactly that, plus much more

    - Only thing that I find even remotely interesting, is that powerpose facial expression system...but I believe G3F will get similar in few months time. If not by DAZ, then by some other party. And well, let's be honest, it's already outdated. It should have been some camera tracking system, where camera follows your face, and change the model's expression accordingly.

Maybe I missed something, but those were the main selling points that I got. I don't know, I suppose I'm kinda sad and glad at the same time. G3F was already so good, that I expected something like soft body physics or something, and when there's nothing new, it's disappointing. I was prepared to start my collection from scratch again, but since there's really nothing new, at least I can be glad that I save a lot of money. More than likely I will eventually move to new G8, but currently I really can't see any reason to.

You make some very good points here, Mendoman. Reducing the number of polygons available for sculpting without making sculpting of subD figures possible is definitely a backwards step. It seems to me as though DAZ3d are determined to prevent the hobbyist user from being creative with the Genesis (8) mesh. You wrote "What next? A G10 is a cube, and everything is made with HD morphs so you can't do any morphs yourself?" It certainly looks like it is going that way.

If DAZ is not trying to limit morph makaing to PAs then they should provide a way to morph the subdivided figure in programs like Zbrush; I see no reason to support V8 until they do.

+1 Daz should first come up with more improvent on the studio software part (free or buy pro version), like animation setup, realtime softbodies,... until then 'm holding off for new figures.

Also the only HD morps available for PA's and not for us hobbyists is a shame. up tot the cube genesis :(

There's something weird about V8's eyes to begin with.  In a lot of the promo images they look more lilke they're plastic than real.

Maybe her body looks great, but the eyes look flat, somehow off. My old childhood doll has better eyes than V8.

This is my concern as well. Having found the method to give life and light to G3's eyes, I would rather not trade hyper-realistic eye reflections for improved realism in facial expressions. Or is this where an add-on pack comes in, like with Genesis 1?

The Genesis 8 figure's eyes look strangely oblong-shaped to me. I don't know if Victoria 8's appearance is based on real people, but she reminds me of the supermodel Gisele when I googled pictures of her. I will be interested to see the characters that come out for Victoria 8 and Genesis 8. I already spent a  large amount completing my Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 Michael and Victoria pro bundles this month when they were on sale, so I think I will hold off on Victoria 8 and see what other products come out for her before I take the plunge. I am enjoying looking at the renders of the new figures posted by community members.

I absolutely loathe baked beans. It's like little fat maggots squishing between my teeth. My go-to "utterly broke, but need to eat" is generally bananas on toast - but I often get funny looks when I mention that, so I substitute "baked beans" as they seem to be a universal food item. laugh And I don't think we have ramen noodles over here, but they are possibly similar to the Maggi's Two Minute Noodles which are dirt cheap, but I can't abide them LOL.

@pulkitluthrathegame yes, your 1060 is good for iray rendering. I'm still on the GTX960 and have no problems. (I DREAM of having the 1060 LOL)

How do you mean "software to make a background"? Do you mean a 2D image to put behind portraits etc? Any image editing software will work - Photoshop, GIMP etc. GIMP is free and very very good - lots of people use it for postwork or making their own backgrounds. Or do you mean background such as environments/props, modelling etc?

i have few questions it'll be great if someone can answer them.

I don't know much about rendering as i'm still learning...one guy mentioned to have good nvidia card for it...right now i have nvidia  gtx 1060 good or not?

And also what software you guys prefer when making a background?

Ramen noodles are inedible for me, but Maggi mee tastes great with chopped marinated chicken, red chilli, garlic, and onion. But that might just be the romance of wasted youth.

It should be available either through Daz Connect or DIM - or even in your product library (mine even happens to be at the top of said product library.)
