Dolls are a terrible thing. NEVER get you children dolls.

    - it teaches them bad things about unrealistic ideas of  shapes and beauty.

    - the tasks the dolls do groom them for mimicking those same actions later in life. It's conditioning

    - it desensitizes them to violence...

    - it starts a materialistic workshop as characters are only 'ready' when they have ALL THE ACCESSORIES...

    - the relationships are black and white. No conflict resolution. Either perfect bliss (highly unrealistic) or antagonistic with only Enemies and Friends.....

DO NOT GET YOUR DAUGHTERS DOLLS.

Thank goodness, as boys, we had ACTION FIGURES and didn't have to worry about any of that stuff.

    I had Transformers.

My inner child is still sad I didn't grow up to be an Autobot

    Sooo...

    You're saying you're a Decepticon?!

In the third Transformers movie, they blew up the building I worked in and dumped flaming helicopter debris on it. My wife says I actualy said in the theater "Praise be to the Deceticons!"

    ROFLMAO!!!

    Good day,

Does anyone know if the morphs and skin UVs for Sadie also work on the Sadie for Genesis?  [I saw in old forum posts that the clothes should work]. I have not done much with toons, but I am looking at the possibility of some childrenś material and these might fit the bill.

    Thank you,

    I don't think so.

No because morphs are part of a specific figure ("Sadie" being a whole figure, "Genesis" being another.) Sadie for Genesis is a morph of Genesis. Clothing can work because the proportions of the figure are all basically the same, but morphs and skin need the exact model, not just something shaped like it.

Or a utility like Gen2X and a supported plug-in for the character you want to transfer to/from in the case of Morphs, or a Material Surface UV for the target figure you want to fit the skin to, in the case of skinmaps. It is all very confusing until you start to get it... then it starts to make more sense.

And the weekends over, new sales!!! I should have gotten a bigger girftcard. :)

  • Ah, the dreaded cart jump.  I guess the sale is either over or buggered somehow.  I had my cart full of RDNA goodies for $50, and changed out one item...BANG, the whole thing jumped to $150.  Before anyone asks, it was just one of the RDNA items, not one of the required newly mad ones. :)

Who knows?  It might be fixed when I get up...Zzzzzzzzz.

I click the wheel in the middle of my mouse and it opens up the link in a new tab in Chrome. Saves me having to right click and then choose 'open in another tab'.

One thing that bugs me about browsing the store is that using the Page Back function of the browser seems to reset the display back to the first page. Say I'm on page 7 of a filtered list and I click on an item to view it. When I click Page Back I don't return to page 7, I am returned to the start. Is this just something with my (Chrome) browser?

I hate that too! I'm also using Chrome. I right click the link and open a new tab for each item I want to look at, then close the tab when I'm done looking. Backfires when you forget to right clcik/open in new tab but you think you did it so you close the window, and now you have to go find the page again. lol

Ah, well that explains it...But Geez,  I spent the better part of an hour or more stacking up that cart.  I was really excited to get a few of those things.  I'll probably just dump it now.  I think I already bought most of the actual sale items.

Too many good stuff today at great discounts, which will probably mean I can't choose and won't buy anything. :D

The Medina stuff looks really interesting, esp. the city generator. Surprised it doesn't all come as a bundle - seems like out of its main sale day it's going to become really easy to lose track of all the extra bits to populate it.

Selling the same hairstyle three times (and making it look best to buy it three times) is a pretty awesome sales tactic. I can even imaginine myself thinking "well I want the best one, but maybe someday I'd just want a lo res version, and the bundle isn't that much more...)

Wow, the level of detail on the Medina sets, especially the food and dishes, is astounding. Ansiko really outdid himself this time!

EDIT: I'm laughing at the 80% off RDNA DAZ Original sale. When I go to that page, there are like 12 items there I haven't bought and 3 of them are freebies. I picked up most of them in the blowout.

Something like that city generator would also make an awesome general tool: put in a number of house models you have and want to use as a base and end up with a city.

Working a lot with toon characters, I love that they have the various versions. I'd settle for two versions and wish it were a bit cheaper, but I imagine (I am not a modeler), they must remodel for each style. Due to the price, I've been wishlisting them.

I thnk two versions with toon (ie tube hair) + a realistic (usually lots of strips) in the same style would be more ideal for me too, rather than thinking about it in terms of resolutions.

I just want to know if can I generate the random people and send them out to populate stone mason's cities....

Even if it's done with  transparent .png render to be composited in photoshop....

That me plan. I have to dig deeper, but like all things Daz, seems like you gotta buy it THEN figure out HOW it does what it does.

There's also an iray lighting helper that looks interesting. I am going all out Egypt today. lol

And..and the woman with teh braids is awesome...

Not that the deals stack, but I'm also waiting to see what they do with fastgrab in another hour or so....

The PA has started a thread about the Medina Cityscape Generator: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/157991/medina-cityscape-generator-commercial#latest

    You could ask over there.

That raised my eyebrows too. It just seems like whatever the High Res version of a hair is worth, the medium and lo res versions of it are worth being thrown in free. What is the logic? "You might not have a machine powerful enough and it is a way to save resources."

Ok.. so sell me the high res version now... and include the other versions... you're going to sell me a limited verison now that will save resources, then charge me full price again for a high res version later when I upgrade my machine?

That makes me feel like, "I'll stick to other PAs."

@Llynara - I agree also on being underwhelmed with 80% off on RDNA with Newly Mad purchases.

There are a couple RDNA things in there that discount very nicely that I still want - but unfortunately, I have to buy $25 of Newly Mad stuff that I'm not interested in to trigger that big of a discount.

Previous sales, stacking triggers always had less expensive options that made me go, "Well, I don't WANT that... but it is $3 and maybe I can use it." or "$3 for a hair or clothing texture, why not..."

That has been missing from a lot of the stacking offers this sale - and it has saved me a lot of money.

I understand you, but to be fair: It is not only about render power, it is also about style. A toonish character looks strange with a "real look" high res hair and vice versa.

I love the idea of the triple hairs. They're not just 'lower resolution', they're different models (as far as I can see) and they don't want to make people pay for the super-high-rez version when they can't use it, so I can support the sales methodology. I only wishlisted the last one and there's a good chance I'll be picking up this one in the next few days.

(As for 'charge me full price', who pays full price around here? And the hairs look quite different anyhow.)

Anyhow, if I pick it up, I'll try to post a review and more screenshots somewhere.

I was just going to say something similar.  Lady Littlefox is a very good modeler when it comes to ... well, just about anything she puts her mind to.  But the level of detail that works for "Ultra Realistic Artist who's trying to fool people into thinking it's a photograph" isn't going to work as well for "Super Stylized Toon Artist who's doing a Rendered Manga" - and yet she (and Traveler) know that there are people on both sides of that spectrum who will want the same basic hair style for their renders - because people have asked.  (and there are people in the middle who will want the mid-rez, and people who do things all over the spectrum who will want the bundle)

    It's not just about resources.

I'm fine with the sales method; my issue is more with the descriptions. Low and Med look to be toon modelled hair (as in its actually there, not just flat strips) while High seems to be realistic hair. Apart from not seeing a reason for both low and med (we have subdivision for a reason) I would like the idea of a toon+high split of the same hairstyle as separate products. It's not just a "lower res version" it's a completely different style of modelling, and I don't think the description sells that properly by calling it lower resolution.

The Nail System for Genesis 3 Female(s) would be an automatic buy for me if I used Genesis 3 a lot. However if there's a way to make it work for Genesis 1 and 2 my money will leave skid marks as it leaves my wallet.
