    There should be equally significant consequences for muggles when they abuse the language. enlightened  For example: The use of "rediculous" should result in your skin turning bright red and dotted with oozing purple pustules for a few hours. devil   And for wizards, mispronouncing "riddikulus" as "reddikulus" would leave you at the mercy of a Boggart. surprise

    Complaint: I can't find one of the photos that I took of myself.  Maybe I should take the photo again after the sun comes out.  It might be cloudy for the remainder of the day though.

    No doubt!  laugh  Or just plain ignorance.  I see a lot of misspellings in professional publications these days.  Once in a while, it could be a typo, but this often...it's just plain apathy.  I think there are no longer any proofreaders in the publishing business.

    Of course it's apathy.  And that's probably the one of the reasons there aren't good proofreaders either.  Nobody cares anymore.  Whenever I bring up grammar or spelling issues I get the defensive replies that "Hey, languages change.  Get over it!".  But it's been my observation that the ones who change the language are the lazy and illiterate.  I can hardly understand many young people today.  Not because they use new words, new words are fine, but because they mumble and mispronounce the familiar words.  Yet, try to let them know what they're doing and they get all defensive and act entitled.  And it's speed, speed, speed.  Sure we have computerized dictionaries that autocorrect things into absurdity but nobody checks.  Speed writing is bad enough but speed talking is just plain rude and conceited.  I believe they somehow feel that he who says the most, the quickest wins.  Yet most of the time they talk and talk and talk and say nothing.

    Yes, languages change.  New words creep in, spellings readjust, meanings change, but let's not blindly accept ignorance as the new norm,  Though I suspect it's too late,  sad

     

    I'll admit to being a bit of a grammar nerd, but the number of professionally published books (by big reputable publishers even) coming out full of typos, spelling mistakes and common grammatical errors is very disheartening.

    ...as someone with dyslexia the spell check tool here can be useless,  It doesn't flag words of less than four letters (often the most commonly misspelled ones) and some of it's correction suggestions are so off base it's ridiculous. Google, while it flags words down to two letters, often also suffers from oddball suggestions for what should be a common typo while not listing the actual fix.
