  • Star was a must buy for me.  The only reason I didn't bite on the stand-alone version is I didn't want a figure I could not use my existing wardrobe on, as a Genesis3 figure, with all those morphing capabilities it becomes a much more versatile item.  Now on to Terradome3...

I think Star just murdered Aiko in broad daylight. Its probably better that Aiko released before Star, because otherwise I don't think Aiko sells as well with Star around. There's not a single negative comment on Star here, while Aiko7 had quite a few detractors.

It's really an apples/oranges situation.  Star 2/7 is highly stylized and aimed at a very small subsection of the anime style demographic, whereas Aiko 7 is made for a much wider variety of uses.  We've had the same dynamic before with HItomi/Aiko 5 and yet A5 ended up being the second best selling female figure of that generation after Vicki herself, and when all of the dust has settled, I expect that Aiko 7 will be in the top tier again.  That said, Star's existing user base and the fact that buying her gives users Auto-Fit access to Star 1's wide supply of products and freebies will almost certainly make her a well deserved success.

So she's fully compatible with Genesis 3? Has anyone tried GenX to convert her to Genesis 2?

Now I just need to figure which of these bundles or whatever to get. What/who is the upcoming premier artist sale? Do we have a hint?

I think she looks cute, just not my style; so decided not to buy. I suppose the biggest dislike I have of this style, is the eyes; for me it doesn't translate well to 3D.

I much prefer Aiko 7, oh and don't like Girl 7 at all.

Wow, that render sold me on Star 2.0 despite my budgetary issues :)

  • Star's not my thing, but I can admire her aesthetics. And it's good to see the DAZ/RDNA merger starting to pay major dividends like this.

They are completely different types of characters but the way they're being split is a bit wrong. Star's eyes and especially her ability to be much more extensively morphed now makes her the only proper anime style character available that can do a wide range of styles. She looks like an actual anime figure you might buy. Aiko 7 looks like a modern game character - stylised yes but not all that anime (and weirdly old but whatever.) Now if Keiko came along, they might struggle - Keiko had the modern anime body shape but her face always looked weird presicely because she lacked the complete eye remake that Star has.

Overall sales probably aren't going to work out because you're comparing a character aimed solely at anime fans and maybe some toons vs a main figure promoted at the entire Daz community. That said... the amount of stuff Star's base figure comes with absolutely blows every Original figure out of the water in terms of value, even if her bundles are a bit wonky.

Standard Original: $44.95 list, custom UVs usually for no reason, 1 skin, a few eye colours.

Star 2.0: $32.95 list, custom UVs (I assume not compatible with old Star??) 5 skin tones, 3 iray skin settings, 10 eyes, 100+ fixing morphs (I assume most characters actually come with these or at least some do?) and custom eyes that can also work on other characters, and a fitting clone for older content.

Starter bundle: $53.95 list, $20 adds 2 hairs, 1 outfit.

Stellar bundle: $99.85 list, $48 adds 1 outfit, 1 expression set, 2 pose sets (looks like the g2f fiends forever stand + pose set.)

Buying an extra new release does get the Stellar bundle down to $63 right now and for once there actually are 3 new releases I want for the full discount on purchase, but by themselves the prices of each bundle don't really feel like they add up right.

Still confused about the clone thing... If I buy Star 2 and Classic Star clothes, will the Classic Star clothes fit regular G3/V7/Girl 7, etc...or just Star 2?  And has anyone tried manually fitting and parenting Classic Star hair to Star 2? Thanks.

So, a few questions before I purchase Star 2.0:

    - Poses for Star 1.0 obviously won't work for Star 2.0 because she's technically G3F, right?

    - Do old skins for Star 1.0 transfer over to Star 2.0?

    - Technically speaking, it's possible to transfer Star clothing over to other generations by using a G3F clone, right? For example, Star->Star2.0/G3F->G2F?

Will there be the male version?

  • JOdelJOdel Posts: 6,322

I doubt that I'll ever use her "as is". A bit too extreme a morph for me. But I like what I see of the blended variants. And I definitely like the array of "Toon skins that she comes with. Will need to consider regarding the Anime Eyes package. I don't particularly like anime eyes, but at the more extreme end of the scale she doesn't look right without some version of them.

    Haven't tested specifically yet but:

As far as I understand it yes, although poses for Star 1.0 are compatible (with some fixing obviously) with V4 Genesis G2 Cookie etc. so they're still good. Also if you have a pose converter to G3 I imagine they'd be fine.

Looking at Star 2.0s UVs she has separate head body leg arms pages like G3 does so I don't think old skins will work?

No idea about the clothing but it seems feasible?

  • If anyone has time this afternoon, can they post some pictures of Star 2 making faces? She looks great with her mouth closed, but I need to see if she looks equally adorable while frowning, yelling, smirking, crying, etc.

The difference is that Star is far more versatile. Star can be dialed back to look more like Aiko, or perhaps what some might say, what Aiko7 should have been. Star also has a ton of skin options, including darker skin tones, how many Daz Originals do that out the box? Here is Star with head dialed at 23%. And with that, she looks more "Aiko" than Aiko7 does.

Awesome hdri's ItsTraveler! These will make her so much more fabulous!

So I do have a question, how do you get other eyes on her? I can give her other skins, but deleting the anime eyes deletes the eyes completely. I tried chanding the textures manulally but the iris doesn't fit.

  • JOdelJOdel Posts: 6,322

Okay, that's probably sold me on at least adding the anime eyes package. With the head dialed back to that degree, she becomes a nice base for illustration work. Which is what I mostly do.

We really are going to need a male counterpart though. This style is much too usefull overall to be limited to 'Toony pinups.

WOW!  I'm loving these Star 2.0 creations!  makeupdiva, outrider42, Ivy, ItsTraveler - those are just fantastic creations for the new Star!

I'm so glad that she was made, now I have to actually get the "Fit them all" clone for Genesis 3 Female, or she's going to have the 'Ken Doll' Syndrome on my PC.  (I have very few Gen 3 Female clothing items, and I don't have the clone for her yet.

PS: I'm not sure if this is going to post in a higher resolution.  I'm following another forum post here for instructions on how to do this on DAZ -- to see if I can get this post at a larger size from the thumbnail view.  If I fail following directions, just chalk it up to my sleep-deprived brain.  THX!

Question: I figured out how to manually pose the eyes (Anime Eyes>Head rotation controls work, or Left/RightUpEye has morphs for posing them) but is it possible to make them stop chasing you around everywhere? I want to be able to set the eyes however I want and then move the camera without the eyes also moving.

It can vary a bit, but in general they work. Here's a simple smile with Star 23% head.

Now let's try her haed at 100%, and for fun, lets stick her tonge out!

I tossed these out very, very quickly. I didn't do any alterations or try to fix anything.

THANK YOU!  These are AWESOME!  Will work great as backdrops in my comics with Ms. Star 2.0.

So has anyone else noticed that Star's eyes seem to follow the camera?? Which personally I think is soooo cool

I noticed that too - that's crazy!  When I was setting her up for my render, no matter which angle I aimed the camera at - she was looking into my soul and judging me.

Default HDRI, Default Star 2.0 and hair mats, default basicwear even though she doesn't even come with nipples, 4.9 Iray.

I was going to do more mixes but honestly most of the realistic main figures look about the same to me.

Also I hate using GIMP v.v so inspired to restart my PS subscription after combining all these >.>

I can't find any part of the anime eyes that is set to point at camera. Heeeelp I can't stop it.

  • *beams*  So glad everyone's enjoying her!  Was a true labor of love and so many people helped out with her!  THANK YOU ALL!!!
(and bless you, this sale is going to hopefully pay for my new computer... one I am desperately needing!)

So to answer some questions that I hadn't seen answerd yet...

Eyes aren't completely removed only hidden... with Star at full size though the eyes don't fit quite right .  If you want to use the Star morph with other figures to mix and don't care about the anime eyes, you can just load the native Genesis 3 Female and her morph is in there to play with once you've installed her.  Have many people who like the 50% Star and less even more than Star ;).   Personally like mixing 25-25 Star and Girl, gives her a really spritely mix.   In lower settings of star you can use the native G3F eyes without too much trouble. ;)   I

Okay eyes following you... in the pose eyemorphs there are some eye disk dials that allow you to translate the disks forward.  That should help with the appearance of her looking at you,  though you'll need to manually adjust them depending on your pose because that can make the eye disks pop out of her head with some expressions ;P

She's instantly by far my favourite release of the year. She has so many extra things with her and morphs and expressions and things and ahhhh. Currently I like having the Star body setting to 0% while keeping the head and body proportions settings at 100% for a less bishoujou type figure, but I've only been testing her out for a few minutes so I'm sure I'll find more since she has about a billion settings and possibilites.

I can't find anything to translate the disks forward - there are side to side settings for them but that makes her cross-eyed, and settings in the anime eyes discs themselves that allow you to manually set the direction of the eyes - but in both cases they continue to follow you (at their new angle) as soon as you move the camera. Is there some sort of advanced setting making them do the following that we can mess with?

p.s. If you want Star but without the eyes, just load G3F or whoever and then dial in Star's morph afterwards. No messing around with anything needed then.

    p.p.s. Cookie+Chip G3 please~

she got the mona lisa eyes they follow you around the room..lol

  • Actually it's an optical illusion that she's watching you.  It's because of her inverted eye whites.

Try searching for the morph EyeDisk-Inward,  it's under pose controls>Head>Eyes>Star2>StarEyes>EyeDisk.

You'll want to use a negative setting and see if that helps...

Also can try Eye-Disk-Side from profile and straighten her gaze a bit... it makes her look crosseyed from head on, but from the side it looks more straight forward.
