A few weeks ago I got three "pre prohibition" whiskey sours bought for me. The pre prohibition version also uses egg whites in the mix and costs 10$.

Can you drink those for breakfast?  You know, eggs...breakfast? cheeky

Except . . . American short measures. A proper pint is 20 floz, wink so the correct scores are 17 and 79 respectively.  (although the principle still holds)

Morning all, getting noticeably autumnal out now, might even have to close the windows!

Harumph... Everybody knows, "A pint's a pound, the world around."  So if you're in England the price is the same whether it's Guiness or OE. cheeky

Not these days, sadly. £3.40 is pretty typical now - pub prices, cask beer. Supermarket prices are between 70p & £2 a pint (although it rarely comes in pint size bottles/cans) depending on the beer or lager.

Hmmm... looked up "pint" and have discovered that it too is another one of those non-standard standards. surprise https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pint  So much for the "a pint's a pound..." saying. frown

Marsh mallow (the plant from which...) is now pretty rare in this country. Not quite endangered, but you'd certainly need to look hard in the wild, marshy places to find any. I think it was the roots they boiled up to make marshmallow the sweet, but of course it's all artificial now.

Learned something new.  But regular marshmallows and Marshmallow Fluff are not the same.

the UHD tv are saying 2160p, that's not really a big diff from 1920

That number is to be compared to 1080p.  It's the vertical lines per inch , not the width of the line.  And, of course, the p stands for progressive display, rather than interlaced.

    And a "cup" is half a pint . . .

Actually, one thing I like about the American cup system for measures is that it's entirely scalable, since recipes etc are usually a cup of this, half a cup of that. So it really doesn't matter how big your cup is, you'll always get the right proportions without any complicated maths. :)

Don't know. But since it's made right here in Massachusetts, I'd say it's the "American" one.

And why the heck is it called a "Table Spoon" anyway?  I never see one on a table.  I see "Tea Spoons", "Soup Spoons", "Sugar Spoons", and  "Gravy Spoons", but the "Table Spoon" never makes it to the table.  It's used to mix ingredients, measure ingredients, and glop mashed potatoes from the pan into a serving bowl but never makes it to the table.   On Thanksgiving day the bowls of potatoes, squash, beans, salad & soup all have a fancy solid or draining "Serving Spoon" but never is it called a "Table Spoon".  We have "Dessert Spoons", "Ladles", "Bouillon Spoons", "Iced Tea Spoons", & "Coffee Spoons".  On informal days we have "Plastic Spoons" and even "Sporks" but never have we asked for a "Table Spoon" at the table. surprise  I suggest we call it a "Kitchen Spoon" and force all the cookbooks ever written to amend their text. cheeky

...102° in the 'hood right now.  No money for beer until next cheque comes in. *sigh*.

Officially hit 100° at the airport yesterday.

Going to be hot-hot-hot again next week after a couple days in the 80s.

...and we are supposed to be in northern rainforest country here.
