I am declining the opportunity to take up the free/cheap Christmas Calendar items I've been offered today. The free item is a G3F pose set in the 43xxx range. I can do better poses myself (and ones that actually interest me), and it's not a wishlist item. The 'cheap' alternative is an item I think I wishlisted when it was in the outlet store for $1.99/$0.99 until the DO items were removed, sku in the 65xxx range. I'm declining the opportunity to spend $2.99 to get it. It's possible it was $3.99/$1.99 in the outlet, but if it was, I forget.
I have V3 era DO items on my wishlist, with sku's going back to 433, but haven't been offered any of them.
The '4 a day' rendo calendar freebies have been rather good. Not taken them all, though, because some of the V4 characters look a bit long in the tooth (so says someone who has V3 items on their wishlist... Hmm. What's wrong with me such that some V3 feels fresher than V4?).
Regards,
Richard
I took the time to add more G9, G8.1/G8 items to my wishlist. But it was a hard slog. All those revamped bundles are clogging up my store front while I bought the original Pro and Add-on bundles and I have to open each one to verify I DID buy everything and not just a character, hair or everything. But I built a cart, bought, and now I have to get to work. We are having our water shut off at 9am today and tomorrow for water meters to be installed in each apartment in my building. Add to the fun, high winds that might cause Xcel to shut off power after 11am to avoid a wild fire. Even though extreme fire warnings have gone out, they have done that before and people have decided it was great days to burn trash or shoot flares on a private target range they broke into or even do a 'controlled burn'. And then there is still the tossed out cigarette from a passing car window along the streets.
Hope everyone has a great day.
looks like I am collecting constellation warriors
I added all the ones I didn't have to my WL
(already had a few cheap from an older sale)
have gotten one every day since in either the free or paid,
yesterday and today in both so obviously grabbed the free ones
have 15 now, 12 left but since I passed up a few in preference for the other option I won't be grabbing them all
BTW I don't actually have a preference for them, have other more awesome things my advent calendar studiously avoids
I did not get a free item off the wish list today, for the first time since the sale began. I still have a stack of items in there that are qualifying, so I am wondering if there is a another requirement, namely that they item should not be currently on sale. Since almost all DOs are on sale today, it could explain why I did not get one offered from my WL.
The pay one is often not from my WL, which seems bizzare. In fact the pay one is often inferior (lower base price and/or older) which is also odd.
Both my paid & free today are from my WL & are both tagged as 65% off on their respective pages, and they aren't the first Advent gifts I got when they were on sale, so that isn't a disqualifier. Now my free one today is the more expensive item, although older, but not by much (both SKUs are 80xxx). I don't know what that says about the algorithm.
I'm getting on sale items from WL. The 2.99 actually went below that a couple times with the sale of the day, so the only logical thing was to take the freebie in order to unlock lower pricing on the paid item (though I didn't buy it either way).
I'm not impressed by the Advent Calendar offerings.
Yesterday I was offered only one choice: the textures for an outfit I don't own. I passed.
I spent maybe $10 on some stuff I really wanted.
Today I was only offered a Polar Bear. I don't want it, but I took it.
Bah Humbug.
I also got today a non-WL freebie and a WL paid item; but I noticed I don't have many items below 8xxxx SKU left, mostly due to buying a bunch yesterday in the Daz Original sale I guess. I'm thinking that you probably need to have enough items below a given SKU in the pool of "free items". Basically free and paid are pulling from two different pools of items, and if there's not enough in that pool then you don't get one in that pool.
I made a bookmarklet/userscript to highlight all items potentially eligible for the advent calendar while browsing the catalog / wishlist. It's proven quite useful to me so far in fixing up my wishlist, so here it is if you want it:
The script has some configuration at the top so you can configure whichever values you think are the limits for this year's advent calendar.
The colors are green for freebie skus and reddish for definitely (?) non-freebie skus.
Apparently, my WL is A-OK! I've received WL items for free & paid every day, with the free offer being my preference and no disappointment. Very happy! Thanks, DAZ!
Luckydraft I looked at the items you mentioned. Totally beyond my understanding.
I'm terrible with numbers. i'd rather look at what I want and click on it.
These "events" have become more a source of distress than anything else for me.
Ron Knights I understand that you prefer not to set up your wishlist the way that will ensure that your calendar will give you preferred items. Not everyone shops or sets up wishlists this way.
But as it's been proven in this thread over and over again, having enough eligible items on your wishlist is pretty much the only way to ensure that you'll be getting most (if not all like in my and some other users' cases) items from said wishlist, so I don't understand why you're coming to the thread to repeatedly announce that you don't like what you're getting in the calendar but will not set up your wishlist.
As per disclaimer on the first page:
But if you change your mind, or if you have specific questions, or something in the thread is unclear, we're here to help. :)
Yay!
My paid today was something I passed on last week in Quick Grab for less (but kept it on my wishlist for the future, so no complaints about it showing up), so freebie it was.
It's been 18 days of the calendar now, and all 36 items offered to me were from my wishlist, but I'm starting to wonder if at some point I'll get under the threshold. I don't think it's going to be this year (so many things on the wishlist), but we will see.
Yeah. I don't care so much about if the paid pool is on my WL or not, but I'm getting a little twitchy about the free one. Unfortunately the paid one probably has a better pool, LOL.
It's neat knowing that there are two separate pools, though. I hadn't tumbled to that part last year. It definitely helps me target my efforts to pad it better.
I'm still getting a freebie a day following your advice, Joanna, and happy as a pig in poo.
Actually, I have followed the suggestions. except for the SKU suggestion.
And I have even re-evaluated and updated my wishlist.
***Edited to ask****
Is there some list of DAZ SKU numbers so I can get an idea where to look for potential freebies?!
Freebies i have been getting this year and last year, everything has to be DO even if i specify the artist name.
* G3 Characters (like those that come extra in bundles or from small bundles)
* G8 Characters from mousso and colm jackson, even got from isourcetexture. (This is the most i get, plenty available)
* Texture addons (see that you own the outfit first)
* DO tools like Hands or face morphs.
* SMALL environments like cheap iray from G3 era (non this year, but i'm positive last year were some).
* Outfits, cheap G3 easier but even some nice G8 i got (Smaller chance, and may depend on the price and maybe even your punches) Look for regular artist that do lots of DO: x-art, 4blueyes and regular contributor to core bundles.
I recomend having a HUGE amount of this items. I lost count, but i recomend having over 100 bellow $20, but do add more than can be $22 or even a bit more. Also have a good selection of even cheaper stuff (bellow $16).
SKU range for my freebies has been 43777 - 83193
Most of mine have been in the 5x's and 6x's.
My freebies (that I "bought") have ranged from 46xxx to 89xxx. In case price matters to you, mine have been up to about $23 full, nonmembers price.
When getting my WL ready for this sale, I also looked at the contents of DO bundles, in the G8-early G9 eras, on my WL. If there were individual items in the SKU/price ranges, I wishlisted them. This pays off a second time when you find a good deal on the bundle: the Owned Item/s discount is the same amount even if you got the item/s free.
I agree there's two "pools" - I posted similiar a few days ago.
I think it MIGHT be based on SKU ranges... but I can't figure what the ranges are (if it is based on sku then the freebie pool would be quite a small range, because so many older items don't seem to register at all).
I do think it fills the PAID pool first... so if you don't have 100+ eligible items (in total), if not more, you won't get any freebies from your WL (because they are all used in your Paid Pool)
Your bookmarklet seems great BTW
I followed your advice, and added many new items to my wishlist. (Maybe 100 or more.)
I was looking at DAZ Originals, and the lower prices.
I feel more confident on getting more proposed freebies.
I got a puppy!!
https://www.daz3d.com/baxter-the-english-bulldog-for-dog-8
This little guy is someone I've been hemming and hawing on for a while. I don't have a specific need for him, but... well, dog. And he was in the Outlet! ...but I didn't really need him... and then I thought "well, maybe I'll get lucky and SantaDaz will drop him in my advent calendar, and thus will end the struggle."
Got my wish!
...I also added a bunch of other canine stuff to my list, as it definitely falls under the "I'd love to have it, but..." category, and generally it's old enough I figured it would count for padding.
You got a sea puppy!!
=P
I've been accruing a couple 99 cent OS items a day for a while now, maintaining 3 punches. Value of my latest calendar item is $23.95, This is up from a low of $15.95 and the SKU has increased from minimum in low 20k to low-to-high 60k range. And I have been getting a steady stream of items from my WL. I take the freebie because, frankly, the paid price offers are not a great deal while free is free. And I can still only say, "Thanks, Daz!" Also, the Nice List items seem to be consistently less impressive now than at the beginning and I missed one I would really have liked to have. Oh well. Now I'm on the train 'til my Daz+ expires on the 28th and we'll see what happens on actual Christmas. It's usually worth making an extra purchase.
I'm happy today!
I followed someone's advice about adding Pose collections to the wishlist. I usually love them anyway.
I got Superhero poses for Genesis 8 females for free!
Now I can make some more silly superhero renders!
Ron, I finally paid attention to the folks here a few weeks ago and selected all Daz Originals on the main store page and then worked my way back halfway through the ones I didn't own. My range of items that I have been offered are approximately 80000 to 99000. I have had others but this is just a sampling for you. The bulk of items have been for G8/G8.1 with a few G9s and a spaceship. A few were not on my wishlist but I looked them over and decided to go with them because they included something I could use, or I needed to spend at least $2.99 that day and there was nothing else I wanted.
Mary
I got a non-wishlist item, for free, that I liked!
FTR
The Weapons set was a pad... While the Wheatfields is a lovely item, and 20000-sku lower than anything on my wishlist (I may try to find some more lovely plants to see if I can finally get a freebie that is on my list!)
Yes, in my search over the past couple days I found a multitude of Genesis 8 items at very cheap prices... from the start,
I'm having more fun.
That's good news!
Here is the picture of everything I got so far. All are FREE options. Maybe it will be helpful to someone. Highest value item is $25 on December 11.
