Today was the fisrt time my calendar freebie was non-wishlist item and it was a texture add-on for an item I don't own or have wishlisted (https://www.daz3d.com/millennia-outfit-textures).
Paid item was from my wishlist (https://www.daz3d.com/xi-beach-day-props), but I don't have need for it right now, so I'm skipping it and both items today.
I got something to keep my punches, but if this happens again tomorrow, I think I'll let my punches lapse and be done with this sale.

You should add more eligible DOs you're interested in to your wishlist, to make sure you will get something from your wishlist.

  • My advent haul so far has been great. I don't have any sympathy for people not getting decent picks - it's very easy to configure your wishlist for a good selection, and joanna has laid it out here for easy reference. If you can't find enough interesting Daz Originals, that's very much "a you problem".

That being said, my paid item today actually isn't from my wishlist. Doesn't matter - I want the free item as usual. I'm already spending a bit each day to unlock the free option, and it's from my wishlist as always. Free advent item #22.

But I thought I'd mention the thing about the paid one in case it indicates a change in the offer's underlying code. Probably just me tho - I don't care about the paid option, so I don't stock the wishlist for it. But then again, I think every other day has pulled from the wishlist for it, so... Who knows.

Out of curiosity, did anyone track their SKUs last year? Not just generalities (like "I got G8 stuff") but actual SKUs? I'm curious how it compares to this year's.

I could go back to my shopping cart/gmail records I guess. But to actively track, no I didn't.

Edit to add: Or not. I looked at some of my carts, no skus. The emails have some items with $0.00 and skus in the 80000s and others very low price in the 90000/100000s and no way to tell what they were offered under. The new items I bought were in the 105000/106000 ranges.

I would not, at least for products you really want: I had at least two outfits for which I got both the base clothing and the texture pack as free choice in my advent calendar. In one case, I had the outfit before the textures pack but in the other case, it was the opposite.

Regarding where an item ended (free or for cheap), off the top of my head, I think the threshold was around $30, items under that price could end as free items, items over, I don't think they could, and I don't remember having an item over $40 in my advent calendar.

Has anyone done any more "research" into the top price of the items? Or is there a consensus threshhold?

  • got textures for stuff I don't own again, might need to top it up

especially since the PA item too needed a dress and I owned the nice item surprise

So far for me this year, free has topped out at $25, paid at $30. Given we're 2/3 through the month now, I feel like that's a big enough sample to say it's probably representative.

Yes, last year I got 30 freebies, the lowest was SKU 60469 and the highest was SKU 83399.

They ranged in (base) price last year from 15.95 to 24.95 (I got 4 freebies at 24.95, higher than anything I've had so far this year)

ETA: This year my freebies have ranged from SKU 58679 (which was not on my wishlist but I accepted it as the 2.99 item that day was not worth it to me) to 83990.

The price range this yeaar so far has been  from 16.95 to 23.95.

Interesting, and thanks for the data points. So with the thought that there's a little wiggle room as it's likely no one has gotten either the absolute lowest or highest item, it looks like the ranges are the same. I'd been curious if they'd shifted up by a year, and it wouldn't seem to be the case.

As a side note, I've recently started keeping track of what items on my WL have popped up on free or heavily discounted ($1-ish) lists through the year, and there are some of those that have now popped up on my calendar as freebies. So it might be something to keep in mind as the year progresses and there are future offers... could pay to WL things for fodder so there doesn't have to be a massive hunt in November to figure out what's eligible and pad out the options.

I have some sympathy for people getting bad advent picks. I have over 1300 items in my WL. Naturally, I've been getting decent to excellent free items. I'm not making special effort to stock properly. Yet, other people may think their WL is properly stocked and still come up empty. That's disappointing! And textures for outfits one doesn't own or want are pointless. I did get textured for an outfit I have, and that was cool!

This is supposed to be fun, and I like it better when everyone is having fun.

as I've mentioned, the paid items have not been great deals. So, there's that.

Happened to me today as well. Got a texture for an outfit I don't own (and never will) despite adding more qualifying items yesterday. I guess it was fun while it lasted. If it happens again, I’ll take it as a sign to stop buying and start rendering ;-)

I'm still getting items from my wishlist for both freebie and cheapie, 23 days in a row now, so I recommend adding more. Remember that we don't know the exact criteria of the items being picked for the calendar, so it's possible that despired adding "more," some of those weren't qualifying and you're still under the threshold.

I had one day, where the freebi wasn't from my whishlist (a texture for a clothing item I had!).

Then I stocked up, and the new have all been from whishlist.

Yep, the same for 22 days in a row. But today, a non-wishlisted texture, despite adding more items yesterday. I'll try adding more today.

So far, everything has been from my wishlist. Sometimes they have been texture packs instead of the outfit, which can be annoying, but I still wanted them, so I got them. The only other disappointment, is that they have been more in the lower "filler tier"/"priority" of my wishlist, if that makes sense.

    Totally makes sense.

All my DOs that qualify are filler tier though, so I'm just happy getting whatever I get. :)

  • I must be right at the threshold for freebies. Christmas Eve=WL Christmas=random; 26th=WL; today=random. Guess I should see what animals, creatures & props I lack.

I don't know what's in your library, but one of the things I did was go to, say, Horse2 or Dog8, scroll down to where there are the related products, and then WL everything that I didn't outright detest.

Beats combing through the entire store for the 400th time.

I've got so much stuff on my wishlist, 5198 items and almost all of the older items I've bought newer generations oof DAZ Originals or PA products instead of the similar older items so there's a lot I won't be buying on it, nevertheless so far out of 27 days only a couple of items where in the list of my wishlist items I wish I had removed before the sale.

I currently have a much larger wishlist than I want, mostly added for this, RRP $9-$18, added in November. And instead of being offered DO items from my wishlist (not even the really old ones), I'm being offered textures for skimpwear I'd never buy in a million years. Time to clear out the wishlist bloat, as it's obvious I'm not going to be offered anything I'm vaguely interested in. Regards, Richard.

It was INSANE how much stuff I just bought over the last few days!  My wishlist had items ranging from $34 - $6 on sale and then with the holiday sales I got $34 items for like $3.xx and $12 items for around $1.29 and even .87!!!  I used the sale, and max tokens each time, but DANG!  My cart total was showing like $1186.00 total discounted down to $66.70.  I almost felt bad for the PAs!  Do they get paid sale price or full price when we buy their things on sale?  Either way it was BONKERS!  Thanks DAZ!

The only thing I can say is: did you add enough? Just because your wishlist is "larger than you want," doesn't necessarily mean that you have enough elligible items for them to be the only source of Advent Calendar offerings. There's no magic nor special treatment for some users while others get poopy options—just the algorithm which we collectively seemed to have figured it out. This thread is pretty much a proof that the number of elligible items on the wishlist is all that matters, and users who were getting wishlist  items and then stopped, reported that they got them again once they sufficiently padded their wishlist again.

But I get it. It's so late in the month that it might not matter anymore.

Ah, Daz, it always knows when to get me spending. I stopped buying a few days ago as my calendar was showing random things for the paid item and I'm quite sick with flu so didn't want to keep trudging through the outlet. My own fault, I kept buying bundles throughout the month which dropped my WL quite a bit and eventually I didn't want to keep playing the game of adding more stuff to my WL. Stopped all purchases as I'd spent enough really. My punches hit 1 today, still no plans to buy anything... except my calendar is now WL items for free AND paid :P Thanks Daz.

  • seems one needes to keep adding because all the stuff already cycled through goes stale

guess I should remove the ones I already passed up

I had 2 consecutive days of duds so added more yesterday and got one I wanted today

its getting too unwieldy for me, I will be cleaning it up after NewYear

I got a free offer on an item that I added to my list after Christmas.

If was poses for the Barn collection. Oh but I don't have the barn, etc.

    That's ok.

@joanna - if I compile overall price/SKU ranges for both free and paid from anyone willing to contribute... would you be willing to edit that into your first post for ease of reference for folk in future?

Yes, most definitely! And if it doesn't fit for some reason, I'll definitely link up your comment. (Also, if you give me a few days, I'll look into mines. Most were freebies, but I did get a few paid items.)

I'm thinking we might be doing this thread yearly, assuming everyone will stick around for that long ;)

    It was definitely nice resource.

I figured I'd put out a call on Wednesday for numbers, then give it a few days for everyone who wants to respond to do it. I figure the more data points we have, the closer we'll get to an accurate/useful range.

And of course there's no guarantee that next year will be the same, but I'm a data nerd, so... folk gonna get data.
