The gaps were there on all clothing for all the generations of figures I have used.  Clothing is polygons, the figure is polygons, when you have polygons on top of polygons there needs to be a small amount of offset otherwise you get rendering anomalies.  The gap is usually only about a half centimeter based on DS scale, not the 1 to centimeters you are claiming, and that is what I am seeing in your image, a 1/2 centimeter gap if that.

And that is what I mean by acceptable.  You have to cam in pretty close to make out that there is a small gap.  You focus much too much on things that will not show as flaws in your average render.  When you look at the promos of the bikini in the store, there is no visible gap.  Also, as a 3D artist, you should expect a certain amount of postwork to correct things small flaws in renders.  I know people would like their renders to be perfect and not have to touch up, but realistically, this just doesn't happen.  Not for the hobbyist or the professional.  That's why industries have whole departments or companies they go to in order to correct and enhance the 3D work that ends up on our billboards or cinema/tv screens.

Well, if you have a look at 3D-Age-Clothing they fit much better also if it comes to gaps and the have the adjustments to fix this.

Also clothes of other artists like Rhiannon or RPublishing and Hongyu has adjustment and styling morphs to fix such problems and to let the clothes look much more real

    @cosmo71

Have you looked at Wear Them All (http://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-autofitting-clones-and-clothing-smoothers-for-genesis-3-female-s). As an experiment, I've just been using this to fit #D-Age clothes to V7. Haven't had issues including panties.

I hadn't tried Wear Them All before this little trial, but it works very well.

I heard something about bikinis coming.

And fantasy armor, because we're pretty short on that.

We are pretty short on everything and that what we can get fits like potato sacks

Must be very difficult to create fitting clothes for G3F

It´s great, nude images are not allowed but well fitting clothes we can`t buy...fantastic strategy

well I think I will not buy any more clothes for g3f here at the store. So DAZ, forget my question, I go shopping elsewhere not here anymore.

hey you people could encourage cosmo in trying to evolve

the daz store garments and get better standards

    instead of giving flat replies

like: " it was always like this

and your expectations are to high

    and we are only hobbyists

    and i remember times when....."

things only get better when people demand for it

i see exatly the same issues as cosmo does

but i am not good enough in this language to explain it well

Personally I'm amazed anyone even bothers to models clothes at all anymore because it appears there is absolutly no way to please folks. First they are too tight now they are too loose. Could the clothes use some improvement? Sure. Iray and G7 raised the game but broad drama filled statements are a very different thing from constructive cristism. I'm not even a modler and i' drepessed just from reading all of this negativity.

It's even harder to be one of the modelers that goes through the trouble of adding 50+ adjustment morphs to most outifts and be lumped in with all the criticism.  Yes, there are some people who rush things out and neglect even basics like an expand-all morph or leave the usually hideous auto generated one in there as a consolation prize.  I know who they are and I don't buy things from those venders anymore.  I still do 95% of my content buying at Daz because over all the quality is better here.

So.. is it right?  No, not really..  but I can't really say much more on the subject without getting my post removed.

My recomendation to cosmo..  look at your content, find the outfits that you are unhappy with due to lack of adjustments and/or sloppy rigging - I'm guessing they will be made primarily by 2 or 3 people.  Stop buying things from those people.

Autofit seemed like a cool idea at first, but in the end just seems to screw everything up. Vacume fit is not natural at all. I stopped bothering with buying conforming clothes and started making my own in marvelous designer.

I do like the genesis tech over the old Generation 4 tech. I never could get clothes to work right with Generation 4 because I don't use stock shapes. With Genesis clothes actually work pretty nicely. Sure it has some tradeoffs, but overall I thought it was a good direction. Nothing is perfect, so it's up to the user to make adjustments to the stock content to get the results they want.

But I love MD as well. Lots of fun to use and makes for some nice natural looks. But I still use stock pieces a good bit cause they still have value. I just don't buy nearly as much as I did years ago. I mostly only get clothes now from pro packs. (and i only typically buy one of those per generation)

It works fine for stuff that is actually supposed to be form fitting, like leatards and stuff. For stuff that hangs, like skirts or is loose, I go with simulation. Plus I don't have to worry when 3 months down the road g4f suddenly comes out buying whole new wardrobe lol.

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,116

Using clones and supersuit and other tricks helps immensely with fitting. Or simply not using autofit, scale and collide as necessary. The tools are out there.

A lot of people have unrealistic or impractical demands, and ignore the long explanations about why things might not work the way they want.

Yep, and shoes and boring stuff I don't want to model and would rather grab from a stock collection. And I agree about the benefit of using the cloths on different figures :) And you always have the ability to change the cloth to a fitted cloth when the need arises..so you don't lose any options.(i needed to use an outfit in about 20 renders, so simulating it each time was out of the question.)

Agreed, I love autofit, much better then the alternative we had before it. I guess we could all just go back to the V4 days where the only way to get clothes to fit custom shapes was to add that morph via crossdresser or morphing clothes to EACH peice of clothing and then save it out.. I still believe everyone in this community should have a basic knowledge of modeling to help with understanding how mesh works and to realize how lucky we are that it all works together as it does. Being demanding and uninformed doesn't really help anyone and puts unneeded pressure on content creators.

Outoftouch makes some awesome well fitting clothes with lots of very nice morphs. I don't by clothing that doesn't have a variety of morphs. Expand All just doesn't do it.

By the way, if you haven't snapped up all of Wilmap's catalog, DO SO.

It's been invaluable and I can't wait until my next purchase cycle so I can toss some money her way. (She provides everything FREE and then accepts donations).

    Orginal post deleted by me.

I agree I only buy stuff that has lots of morphs and there are a couple creators I don't buy from anymore because of that.

Well, as I have written before. If the result of a new technology is to use tricks to make it work this new technology is worse.

You are right, outoftouch and also Rhiannon and RPublishing and of course 3D-Age (for V4) and Hongyu are creating really great clothing and I have tones of them, unfortunatelly for V4 and pants and panties are not working also not with converters (crotch/leg/hip) region.

The problem is, I would buy clothes for G3F from these vendors, but there are more or less no clothes for G3F created by these vendors, I have contacted RPublishing and Rhiannon and they will create clothes for G3F and they will also create Remakes of V4 clothes for G3F but that will take a while they say because it is very difficult and much more work than they have expected.

have you had a look at the image Chris? I guess not or you need glasses, this is not a small gap, these are huge gaps.

You can fix it though. Clothes have gaps some times. Easy stuff to correct. Probably not noticable if she had a top on. I'm guessing this one had no morphs included to help with that?

Just do it! Take control of the stock content and make it yours. laugh

It's easy for things to work perfectly when the range of options is limited.

I have some 3D-Age clothes from yesteryear for V4. No they were not perfect. Nothing is perfect. They don't fit custom shapes very easily...3D-Age stuff was certainly a step above many, but not perfect. And i still had challenges fitting.

However if you that works better for you, use it! No reason to stop using V4. Lots of people still use Generation 4.

It's easy for things to work perfectly when the range of options is limited.

    "Perfectly" is an overstatement.

These aren't critical issues. If they were more people would complain about them. For stock content most of the assets sold here are good for what they are. You do need to learn and apply "tricks" when working in any medium. The content sold here and at any other Poser/Daz store are starting points to speed up the process in creating art.  They are not the end result, you do need to put in some work especially if you strive for "perfection".
