Well, if you have 3D-Age clothes for V4 they work perfectly and much better than a lot of clothes for G3F oh wait a moment, we haven`t got a lot of clothes for G3F to compare
If you have this product you can use all your precious 3D-Age clothing on GF3
And by the way, if you folks say that you never get things work well on V4 that is not a good argument because that means: V4 clothes work not well on V4 so it is natural that G3F clothes work not good on G3F.
Autofit seemed like a cool idea at first, but in the end just seems to screw everything up. Vacume fit is not natural at all. I stopped bothering with buying conforming clothes and started making my own in marvelous designer.
I do like the genesis tech over the old Generation 4 tech. I never could get clothes to work right with Generation 4 because I don't use stock shapes. With Genesis clothes actually work pretty nicely. Sure it has some tradeoffs, but overall I thought it was a good direction. Nothing is perfect, so it's up to the user to make adjustments to the stock content to get the results they want.
Agreed, I love autofit, much better then the alternative we had before it. I guess we could all just go back to the V4 days where the only way to get clothes to fit custom shapes was to add that morph via crossdresser or morphing clothes to EACH peice of clothing and then save it out.. I still believe everyone in this community should have a basic knowledge of modeling to help with understanding how mesh works and to realize how lucky we are that it all works together as it does. Being demanding and uninformed doesn't really help anyone and puts unneeded pressure on content creators.

I have some 3D-Age clothes from yesteryear for V4. No they were not perfect. Nothing is perfect. They don't fit custom shapes very easily...3D-Age stuff was certainly a step above many, but not perfect. And i still had challenges fitting.
However if you that works better for you, use it! No reason to stop using V4. Lots of people still use Generation 4.
hey you people could encourage cosmo in trying to evolve
the daz store garments and get better standards
instead of giving flat replies
like: " it was always like this
and your expectations are to high
and we are only hobbyists
and i remember times when....."
things only get better when people demand for it
i see exatly the same issues as cosmo does
but i am not good enough in this language to explain it well
Many thanks for your comment. It is really hard if you have some critical issues here at the daz forum so I am happy for your support. Most people here have the opinion that everything is fine even you have to use tricks and stuff to make something work.
These aren't critical issues. If they were more people would complain about them. For stock content most of the assets sold here are good for what they are. You do need to learn and apply "tricks" when working in any medium. The content sold here and at any other Poser/Daz store are starting points to speed up the process in creating art. They are not the end result, you do need to put in some work especially if you strive for "perfection".
I am not new to this. That is the problem, you guys seems to think that I was starting rendering last week or so, I started with this back in 2010 and I know that not everything is and can be perfect but in my opinion it is not getting better whith this new technology compared to V4. I do not say that G3F is not good, sure there is progress but in some cases there is no progress and that is not understandable and one should have the right to criticize this without being portrayed as stupid beginner from you folks.

A lot of times the older morphs don't come over at all, or so well. Its a bit hit or miss from my experience. Not sure the science behind why some morphs translate and some dont.

No, I said Genesis works better than V4. Don't spin things around. The argument is that V4 was never as perfect as some people try to paint it. She had her own issues. And many would argue clothes for the newer figures works well for them.

You just need more grounded expectations of what you can get from a (relatively) low priced piece of stock art. And you generalize a ton. Which doesn't help. If you know a vendor doesn't add morphs, and you want morphs, stop buying from them.
Even when they put a ton of morphs in they don't always fit my needs. So I still end up making my own custom adjustments. This is to be expected.
The only thing I will say on this subject. I made clothing for V4 for years... and all three generations of Genesis for a few years now. Genesis wins, handsdown. This is the reason why I don't make clothing for V4 anymore. The thing the OP fails to grasp is that, when youre dealing with polygons and also smoothing tech with collision detection, you have to allot for something of a gap... otherwise, your backside poly will poke into the front side and leave a dark/black mark on render. If we released clothing that had that, I can only imagine how upset people would be. Perhaps they would grasp it better, if they made commercial clothing for Genesis.
Does it mean its perfect? Nothing really is. Ive done a fair amount of content of all different kinds in my 12 yrs... you will never achieve perfect. Not with any of it.
The only way for a article of clothing to be an absolutely perfectly fit... is a second skin, where its painted on. And even then, it will most likely look like its painted on.... which isn't perfect.
panties for example do not work (crotch region) and some pants and skirts also not. It is a converting issue. Parts of the crotch region (original V4 clothing) gets converted to the legs and that leads to bad results if you for example spread the legs. On V4 the crothe sides for example did no move if you spread the legs of V4 but they do if you spread the legs of G3F that is the problem.

To this point, we have a few items that try to make a perfect fit by using the "Hide Faces when fitted" gimmick. I remember the first time I got an item like that and I thought it was a bug. To this day we have what seems like one complaint/inquiry a month about a product that auto hides faces. people don't like that either. But that was one approach making it a perfect fit (and not everyone loves it)
I'd rather have a small gap I can fix myself if needed. Its the lesser of 2 evils.
Yeah, its funny when you think about it too. The gaming industry builds clothing directly onto the model, so the clothing polygons are the actual figures polygons where they crossover. For whatever reason, here in DAZland, its unacceptable by the community.. because the community at large just isn't used to that at all (I admit, its a foreign concept to me too) And sometimes, you just cant get away without it (such as the case with mermaids)
But a small gap to me, is a non-event, also. Esp when there are adjustment morphs. I can kind of understand the upset in the absence of those, But A: I think the majority of clothing ppl add them in... and B: there are still ways around it (using Dformers, or goz and pulling it in) Tho, you may still get pokethru if you close the gap, once smoothing kicks in. Its just one of those things... you do the best you can.
The only way for a article of clothing to be an absolutely perfectly fit... is a second skin, where its painted on. And even then, it will most likely look like its painted on.... which isn't perfect.
There is another way...insane number of polys. A fine enough mesh will do it. Look at some of fantastic zbrush work....millions of polys on a static mesh.

Well ZBrush renders arent generally rigged (I know of nothing that can handle that amount of poly lol) and they definitely dont have auto-collision and smoothing to contend with. But lets just say theoretically... even if something had a bazillion polys, if you have a backside, it has smoothing enabled and it touches Genesis... it will still poke thru the frontside. It helps to fit better for sure... it hugs curves better, it morphs better in general. But its still gonna act the same way in that respect... its just the nature of the beast.

Well that is a bummer, I was meaning to pick this product up soon, might have to stick with the old way, autofit to GF2, then save and then autofit to GF3. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

Most of my early modeling was for games. So very familiar with this concept. As mjc1016 says it's largely about resources.
Reason it doesn't work so well for Daz/poser users is simply usage. If the clothes autohide parts of the mesh I later want to show, it limits what I can present. If I wanted to have part of the clothing use a mesh material and not the default leather, it's not as easy to pull off if the geometry is hidden. Stuff like that.
I had some nice hotpants that looked great. But when I changes the material I saw her skin was gone. Wasn't going to be able use transparencies now :( In games, we would paint the mesh and skin into the material. But normally would avoid that in dazland.
Mermaids make sense of course, really no need to show those legs.

Just to better explain.... I made a little diagram. Imagine the blue line is the backside (what sits on Genesis skin) And the red side is the frontside, which is slightly off the blue line (giving the item thickness) The green circle is the collision/smoothing zone. Now imagine it has falloff that occurs on the outer edges, where its affect zone is weakest (but the center is the strongest) Sort of just like Dformers work.
What will happen is, the zone takes hold of the backside... but not really the front side (tho it depends largely on the thickness of the mesh here. Really thin will fail to have the thickness that gives 3D clothing its 3D look... really fat will just look like its too fat. So you aim for a happy medium) So what happens is that it pushes the blue zone onto Genesis (so theres no pokethru there) But the red zone pretty much stays put.... so the poly of the blue zone pokes thru the red zone.
The only way to fix that, is to move it en masse a mm in the geometry... which often causes a very small, practically non-existent gap. Or opt to have smoothing off. Its a tradeoff tho... with smoothing off, you are sure to incur pokes in odd places. So you either deal with that, or a slight gap.

Part of the problem is the type of modeling this is...both the red and the blue are two separate surfaces and the space between them is just space. If they were the 'limits' and the volume between them was the material, we wouldn't be having this problem.
one part of the question in the headline was "can we expect...in the near future?" means how long does it take that we can get much more clothing for g3f? AND I MEAN NOT BIKINIS

Guess that depends on the vendors and whether you like what they are making. It can take awhile to make a detailed outfit and then go thru DAZ Quality Control to the store, so you might want to be more specific on what you mean by "near future". They could all be busy working on GM3 addons, if so, it will take longer for more GF3 clothing. Look at the timeline for clothing for GF2 and that should give you an idea what to expect.

Do you mean, if the mesh were solid inside instead of hollow? Unfortunately, thats how all mesh is - hollow inside. Otherwise, it would tap on a lot of unused poly (and very probably render time/app instability)

Yes, defined as a solid...much like CAD programs do.

I said relatively low priced because they are. People think that products that take dozens if not 100 hours of work are overpriced at $30. I encourage people to try and make assets themselves so they can see how cheap these things really are(compared to the time it would take to make from scratch).
The stuff at rendo is often cheaper for reasons. I'm not going to start that discussion. But keep in mind as someone said, there are reasons why some people use other networks.
And lets not bring up turbosquid again and its thousand dollar unrigged meshes
By the way, if you haven't snapped up all of Wilmap's catalog, DO SO.
It's been invaluable and I can't wait until my next purchase cycle so I can toss some money her way. (She provides everything FREE and then accepts donations).
