...whoops, wrong thread.
I really like this pic :)
I saw something about Josie's eyelashes in this thread, and now can't find it. Something about how to change them .... her bottom eyelashes are WAY too long, they look kinda ridiculous. Anyone point me towards the fix?
Thats what I keep saying. But I don't render natively in DS so I didn't see some shift between Genesis1/2 and Genesis 3. They all work the same for me. In fact I recently got a G3F skin that I finally feel is as super as Marie Elite for V4...that took a loong time. G1/G2 had some good and even very good skins, but I got a super duper one for G3. So the comments the whole generation look off, has nothing to do with the textures.
But if peoplee like presets, and many like Iray so that might be steering their opinion. And even if they don't like Iray, the promo renders use them as you mention.
I see you smoothed out her lips this time. Last time they had too much crackly detail, nice improvements.
That's the one!! Thank you! My search-fu was definitely failing me last night :D

Really cute render Artini
Nice, but I'd still dial the eyes back a bit.
CHEERS!
I have to completely disagree, here. Genesis 1 & 2 character skins are definitely a step behind what we've gotten out of Genesis 3 (as they should be, given the tech). I actually felt Genesis 2 Female characters had a more "waxxy" sort of look than even Genesis 1. Just something about them. It wasn't until Belle 6 released that I felt the figure's graphical potential had been reached!
The image maps for the three generations are basically the same, aren't they? Limbs get a bit more space in Gen3 but the faces and torso have been the same sorts of 4000x4000 images across the board. Any differences people are seeing are surely due to settings (probably renderer) and not actual materials. Personally I think Iray looks miles better than 3Delight.
The thing is, now, you're getting 4000x4000 textures of just one part and not a bunch crammed into one space. Remember how the face always looked better than everything else? That was because it had the space all to itself, well, now all the other body parts have that space so they are all of the same fidelity.
CHEERS!
To me, anyone finding the model looks worse must be spotting something they don't like in the rendering process; all textures are either 4000x4000 or 4096x4096 for the main body parts: torso, face, legs and arms; the same wasn't the case for earlier models, where as Rogerbee said, they used to be shared between legs and arms.
Perhaps with Genesis 3 following so closely behind the release of IRAY what people are seeing is folks getting to terms with the new system; it does take time to become comfortable with it, that is the case for PAs releasing promo renders as well as the community at large.
There is also the case of it being differnent than 3Delight - changes can illicit negetive reactions, without us consciously noticing that is what is happening.
The legs and arms are around double the size now, but the torso and head are about the same as they were before. One thing I did forget though is that most of the Gen3 figures seem to come with subsurface textures by default (with veins and things not just the red glow stuff G2 occaisionally had.) They also seem to come with normal maps, but I'm not sure how much that changes anything?
I don't know a whole lot about 3Delight, but from what I've read setting things up is a different sort of mentality compared to how you do shaders and lighting for Iray, so perhaps that accounts for some of the difference in peoples' minds.
Normal maps can be plugged into the correct channels in the Iray Uber shader and do make some difference.
CHEERS!
Thanks, RAMWolff and Rogerbee.

Now that is more like she should look. More of this please, Daz.
CHEERS!
That's more mid-twenties seductress than innocent teen. Make what you like but I don't think that's the niche Josie is meant to fill as a default character.
..yeah I feel I'm doing OK in this department with G2 for now.
I really like the Kimmy skin in Iray.
...that looks pretty nice.
Nice image. But the face looks too mature for a teen girl. I'd peg her as being older. Especially with that makeup.
Teens tend to lay on the makeup with a trowel, but they still look like teens.
You haven't seen what effective use of makeup can do.
Years ago; I was about the girls age iirc, The Sunday Times magazine did a two page spread; a fifteen year old girl in her school uniform on one page; the other dressed up for a night out. Was hard to tell her age, other than not still at school.
I started serving alcohol when I was fourteen, which didn't make me grow, it made me realise how my adults were idiots and hadn't grown up. :) There's a reason I used to ask for ID; not only was it easy to mistake those old enough - as they looked too young; it was easy to serve those that weren't old enough but easily looked it.
..ended up geting Josie anyway as I laready had the Growing Up Morphs for G3F.
She actually does does pretty well (though I had to lighten her skin), Here's one experiment to create a preteen based on her (the hair was a bit of an pain as it had to be fitted manually because of the extra bone in the neck, a lot of older hair content uses the neck bone as the base for the styling morphs).
