This post should be archived for all time, no one other sums up the insane complexity of modern DAZ sales quite like this. When you have to use variables to explain how a sale works, it is too complicated. Doesn't necessarily mean the discounts aren't good, but I've yet to fathom why every major sale here needs a FAQ to figure out.

Day 1 (yesterday): All in promo was paid at 60%, I could buy one product with $x price and get it for  $0.6*x. Suppose I bought Fire Hazard, and reserve New Vision Bedroom for the next day, day 2, in case of none of the new stuff will be ok. If a product in day 2 is good to buy, Can I reserve New vision for day 3 to get rev up point in case day 3 will be a bad day?

Day 2 (Today): All in promo is paid at 54%. I could want five products, suppose I buy Elatha Sandals, and reserve the others four for Day 3 (I still don't know if day 3 can be covered with New Vision Bedroom) and Day 4. If day 1 reserved doesn't work for day 3, at least I can cover Day 3, and I can change my opinion about buy or not buy the last two products if there are better things. No good for PAs.

Day 3 (Tomorrow): All in promo will be paid at 48% or 49%. In theory, rev up for this day is covered. I need buy New Vision Bedroom already!, If I still want it. If this  day 1 stuff still is useful for rev up, I can reserve all Day 2 and Day 3 stuff for Day 4.

Day 4 (next 1): All in promo will be paid at 43%. I need buy Day 2 stuff already! If Day 2 stuff still are useful for rev up, I can reserve Day 3 and Day 4 stuff for Day 5.

Day 5 (next 2): All in promo will be paid at 39% or 40%. I need buy Day 3 stuff already! If Day 3 stuff still are useful for rev up, I can reserve Day 4 and Day 5 stuff for Day 6. Final of accumulative rev up.

Day N (with N = 6 and beyond): All in promo will be paid at 39% or 40%. I need buy Day 4 (Day N-2) stuff already! If Day 4 (Day N-2) stuff still are useful for maintain rev up, I can reserve only two Day 5 (Day N-1) stuff for Day 6 (Day N+1) and Day 7 (Day N+2), ie, if there are K Day 5 (Day N-1) stuff, K-2 can be purchased in Day 6 (Day N) without waiting.

Have this sale final Catch up?

hummmm!, I am double wrong. Wrong postulate: Blue stuff live 3 days, don't 2 days

My formulas are wrong too. These are the formulas:

    Price: x

    Base percentage: 40%,  Base proportion:  a = 0.4

    Additional percentage: 10%, Additional proportion: b = 0.1

    pay for Base discount:  x0 = x - a*x  =  (1 - a)*x  =  0.6*x

    pay for Revup 1:           x1 = x0 - b*x0  =  (1 - b)*x0  =  (1 - b)*(1 - a)*x  =  0.9*0.6*x  =  0.54*x

    pay for Revup 2:           x2 = x0 - 2*b*x0  =  (1 - 2*b)*x0  =  (1 - 2*b)*(1 - a)*x  =  0.8*0.6*x  =  0.48*x

    pay for Revup 3:           x3 = x0 - 3*b*x0  =  (1 - 3*b)*x0  =  (1 - 3*b)*(1 - a)*x  =  0.7*0.6*x  =  0.42*x

    pay for Revup 4:           x4 = x0 - 4*b*x0  =  (1 - 4*b)*x0  =  (1 - 4*b)*(1 - a)*x  =  0.6*0.6*x  =  0.36*x

Gigi, these are the percentages that the customer gets for the amount of revs they have on their meter:

    • 1 REV-UP = 46% Discount
    • 2 REV-UP = 52% Discount
    • 3 REV-UP = 58% Discount
    • 4 REV-UP = 64% Discount

I understand that your math is correct; it's just a bit confusing to see your numbers as opposed to the percentage off you're actually getting, imo.  I think most people think in terms of the discount they receive.

The NZ dollar has gained a lot on the aussie in recent years, but yeah it would still hurt. Stupid economy that'll teach us for ignoring everything but minning.

You must see what it looks like here in South Africa. We're sitting at R13.57 to the $. It was R13.20 a week ago and 12.60 a month ago. Every day this sale is getting more expensive.

Ouch! I think I don't get to grumble any more.

damn yeah bradrg wins or should I say loses in paying more but Fishtales and Chris_78999 aaah making the rest of us wish we had like you lucky buggers oh well at least we're spending on hobby we enjoy and it is still cheaper and easier than the alternitive of hiring models costumes/clothes, finding locations and everything thing else for photo shoots or are really good at drawing painting

  • I thought that "Lose One" crap was a typo, or some sort of badly worded incentive like, "Hey, if you don't buy now, you miss out on potential savings." But now I see I was wrong, and I think this is a crappy sale idea. I guess I need more coffee, but  I'm still not sure how this actually works.

There are two items I want: (released today) Savage Hunter for Genesis 2 Male(s) and (released yesterday) Everyday Drinks. Both are in my shopping cart, but I do not see an additional 10% discount reflected in the price for the drinks.

QUESTION: Do I need to purchase Savage Hunter first, then later today (after the "rev up" appears on my account) purchase the drinks?

    Better to do this:

Buy the drinks today, at the base 40% discount. This will "rev up" your future savings to 46%

Then, tomorrow, buy the savage hunter. That way the more expensive item benefits from the bigger discount, and you'll earn another rev up for future purchases. You can only earn one rev up per day, so it makes sense to spread out your purchases of qualifying items over multiple days (an item qualifies for revs for two days after it was released).

  • Chris: Thank you! That is exactly what I needed to know.

    This (a Still Featured item)

    http://www.daz3d.com/dm-s-elatha-sandals-for-genesis-3-female-s

should qualify for a Rev-Up point today as far as I understand, but I see no change in my Rev-Up status now after 40 minutes. Anyone else having problems with this?

Hm, okay, just recalled someone said they had to log out and in again before it worked, and that fixed it. Maybe DAZ should add this to the "May take up to 5 minutes for your REV-UP discounts to display & apply" note...

    Why am I at 2?

    Kinda confusing.

Started on the first, and I bought nothing.  So on th 2nd, I should be at 3.  I bought nothing, by accident... they were in my cart.  I bought them on the third, when I should have been at 2... today, I should be at 3 because I bought something yesterday.

    ???

    Really?

    Why?

  • to be at 3, you needed to buy 3 things on three different days. not 2 things on one day. Did you do that?

So you were at four initially? What did you buy yesterday, and are you sure it was yesterday to DAZ (MST)?

The only worse thing is if you included Gordana tomorrow (cough, cough, ahem)

Slightly related question: how well does http://www.daz3d.com/everyday-drinks play with 3Delight? Is the auto-conversion any good or is it at least shader friendly? The product is sorely tempting and, quite frankly, the only thing that may make me keep the revs up till tomorrow.

Not great...(as documented on the product page) they seem to be iray optimized.  You will need new shaders for the glass and liquid, at least (metals as well, even the tray lost its luster).  Below is them added to a scene.  The rum I changed the liquid and glass shaders to basic 3delight ones...the others are stock.  No additional shaders that I saw.

Same scene/settings/modified shaders in default iray on right, stopped short for comparison.  Again, the rum is changed shaders to some basic 3delight ones

Last attempt (far right) in 3delight using shaders available in my runtime...not bad, but nowhere near the WOW factor of Iray!

Then again, I am not a pro at this  :)

Quote from the product page (my emphasis):

Compatible with: DAZ Studio 4.8 or higher. Iray materials only - 3Delight materials not included.

I almost submitted a ticket last night for this exact issue. I don't have this problem when I log in with certain computers, but definitely have this problem at my home/personal computer.

If I have a 46% discount, then I pay 54% of the product, off course my numbers need to be the opposed (complementary) to discount. Why "paid price = original price - discount" can be confusing? maybe unattractive, and discount calculation is more easy. I select pay as measure because this is the measure that my shopping cart display separately.

In any case, I wrote wrong numbers in my previous question because I misunderstood the rules of the sale, so I needed write the correct numbers.

Just got bitten by this one myself — I finally decided to buy the Venice set before it fell off the bottom of the Still Featured list, and I've been waiting... and waiting... still stuck on 3 revs. I hope this logout-login dance doesn't mess up my "unread forum posts" markers. Anyway, I've finally got up to 4 revs. I wonder how long I can keep this up; there was nothing at all in today's stuff I wanted.

(Maybe the missing rev was loitering next door in the Forgive Me bundle...?)  devil

Thanks for the renders, 3dOutlaw. It's a shame, but, on the other hand, I finally have an excuse to get out of the sale before I spend enough to regret it.

I updated one more render above...I am sure folks here can improve upon it.  To be honest, its a fun challenge! cheeky

My apologies to all 3Delight users. The decision to drop 3DL was partly due to the amount of time I spent learning the ins and outs of Iray materials. I had to choose between dropping 3DL or holding the product back. On top of that, in the few renders I did with 3DL materials, the results were so well... 'ordinary' is the only word I can think of, I decided not to include them.

I haven't abandoned 3DL users, and future products will have both 3DL and Iray materials.

Gigi, it's because primarily when many people think of a sale, they are looking for what kind of a discount they will receive.  Ad sales show the percentage you get off the item, not the percentage you pay, so posting the percentages you are paying, could confuse some people; again, in my opinion.  But the math you showed (as confounding as it was to me :) ) did show the correct amounts for what you were trying to display. :)

The fact that you can take revs' off me if I miss a day means I will NOT be participating in this promotion.
