Yep, it was a mistake, the idea behind a change is offering more features, not removing them.
I think they forgot to include the little 26 lines javascript that allows theme changing.
It was present on the old theme.
Well, most serious 3D and CAD software has a dark background... Studio itself has one.
A while ago I read several articles about how darker backgrounds were better for your eyes... Unfortunately I can't find any now... I do find a lot of articles on how to deal with brite backgrounds and whatever problems they may give you, or why they are "sharper looking", or defending them... A lot of people complaining about them too... Nothing about it helping or hurting you eyes now though.... Maybe if I read through a million more articles or tried more search terms.
A Dark Theme please, oh kindly rainbow octopus masters... ?
I love how we take the site design seriously while making fun of the logo.
*ps. Not trying to bump this thread or anything. :wink-wink:
I made this bookmarklet to darken background color, I only know how to add it to IE maybe someone can show us how to add it to Chrome o FF, or <insert your favorite browse name>
Instructions for Windows 7+ with Internet Explorer:
HTH
The logo is just "mr. sparkle" so we'll get over it but the site color palette can become discomforting to people with vision issues.
Thank you! It really helps!
Love, Jeanne
Looks like DAZ is going to dig its heels in on this one. No suprise -- probably the same person the choose the new logo. Regardless, I will be revieiwing recent purchaes and returning items I have less use for/do not expect to use. I also realized I can regquest the difference for some DzFire purchaes thanks tot he flash sale yesterday (I purchased two items from it, so have proof I knew about it). And of course I will be reducing purchases. Thanks for reminding me I spend too much money here DAZ!!
Is it worth our time bothering to put in support tickets any more?
There's been no change to the overall appearance of the store and forums, apart from a handful of minor tweaks.
There's been no meaningful feedback on the support tickets; since the original ridiculous, unhelpful, and frankly, insulting reply, I've had two brief notes that my concerns were passed on to the web developers. This was all on the first day I opened the ticket. Four days ago.
Who else has opened support tickets? Have you had any better luck getting any sort of answers — or, even better, action?
I'm getting fed up with all this.
Obviosuly I did, and recieved the same BS answer that makes no sense. But how hopeful should we be given how dysfunctional the new logo is? Even more so given what I have spent this year (enough that they should be paying more attention). I do not even know if my comments went further than e.g. the web team. For all we know the top brass may not know there is an issue. :( With that said, I followed through on returning items and have reduced my spending like I said I would on here and in the ticket I opened. And I explained the situation again in my ticket to return items. I also pointed out that I caught that I had purchased some DZFire items 30 days ago at 50% that I aksed for the 60% flash sale from yesterday difference on -- if I was not reviewing orders I would have missed that too, so even though I kept them it's still some lost revenue. I spend enough that I can vote with my wallet (i aslo asked for a refund, not store credit), and at this point I am not sure what else I can do. Hmm, maybe snail mail the CEO. Or he VCs. In this case, businesses move slow -- might need to have some meetings, etc. So maybe (not holding my breath) we will see soemthing in a week or two. I do agree they should have significantly more dialog with the community but we are seeing even less of that even in the PC (no previews of new stuff, not even a day in advance anymore). DAZ really does seem to just want our money and apparently really could not care less about us, so I think voting with your wallet and letting them know you are may be the best course of action.
Thanks RAMwolff for the Color That Site Daz Forum Script, night time viewing of the forum is much better. I dont need the dark glasses now!!! Hurrahhh!
This Manfred Mann version is famous for me because the word "curlywurly" actually ended up in a spelling bee, and I think the competitor who missed it ended up with 3rd or 4th place.
Fascinating history; originally written by Bruce Springsteen and covered by Manfred Mann, although it is the latter that I and most everybody my age would identify with.
FWIW the sales team stepped in and took steps that leave me feeling like DAZ does value me as a customer after all. That was the heart of my complaint about this situation, and while there is stil no dark theme, the larger issue has been addressed. So someone was paying attention! Kudos to Britney and Crisssie.
I have certainly reduced my spending here at DAZ simply because I don't visit as much as I did before the theme change. I couldn't care about the logo. I kind of like that as a favicon it remiondes me of the Obama campaign logs :p
I did try the browser plugin to change to a dark theme, but the way the site is created it defeats the purpose. The main site id bright and then promotion "themese" are sometimes dark and sometimes bright. What a bunch of hooey.
Should have left it alone and spent the capital on other things, in my opinion.
LOL
Well, It's been a few days, checking back, and well, at least I can read the forums without getting sick, so that's a good thing.... As for my overall opinion of the "New Face of DAZ", well, I'll just keep that to myself other than to say I'd be real embarrassed if I were the Exec who authorized this new layout, especially where Daz is in the business of selling "Art Supplies"...
It's sales season, so you know, people tend to browse around Daz3D sites more, shops or forum...and then?
The contrast is particularly painful if you're simultaneously working in Daz Studio's really cool really professional really Photographer-Friendly DARK EYESAVER GUI
Daz Studio is totally keeping up with the times in software GUI.
Official presentation 2007 ------ 2016!! Progressively more pro!
Yet....
in 2015 Daz3D site GUI went back to 2007 era D|S Style (Seriously....???)
Apparently most Daz users have developed superhuman eyes that see PhotoRealism/ Gamma/ Exposure/ Volume Dust against EYES-SEARING forum backdrop? How? 2D/3D professionals would love to know!?
Even gamer and game dev focus stores care about saving the eyes of their users with gray store interface?
But no Pro-Eyesaver theme anywhere on a NVIDIA IRAY PHYSICAL SSS showcase site?
Anyway to save my eyes and simply because I enjoy window shopping and viewing user images, I went looking for UserStyle scripts that make Daz3D friendly for my Darkside Pro eyeballs
...hacked a Dusky Gray Facebook script to work with Daz3D site in Chrome and Firefox. Unfortunately it also desaturates and renders the product PRICE TAGS near invisible...
Thank you, now I have a super-black option!
I don't understand why web GUI and App GUI consistency isn't a thing here...if the forum design geniuses are listening, most people don't need black or deep gray, just Darkside or Highway gray will do?
My two pence here; for me, the website and store are actually better in a light color or white than any other color combination because text on dark colors becomes unreadable for me. That's one reason why I rarely shop at DAZ3D's competitors. DIM is the other main reason.
