I saw a head with brain blown out of the back

*chuckles* Pretty sure those are horns.devil

Now all Daz needs to do is release her morph and texture for G3F. Then they can say they have some diversity.

I also saw that too. I was like "oh snap! I thought we weren't allowed to show violence like that!?"

I don't think DAZ should be specifically supporting light/dark themes; I think they should leave that to folks using browser plugins to override.  It's nearly double the work to support UI changes when you have to support themes.

Using plugins also eats up additional resources in a resource hungry community/ hobby, not to mention slowing down the browser and eventually the website experience.

Not only is a dark theme easier on people with sensitive eyes like myself, but it also tends to be a preference for those of us who are energy conscious. On screen, white is the maximum of light, black is the absence of it, on paper or any other physical medium it is the other way around because it deals in pigment instead of light. Light costs energy, less light = less energy used.

"black= energy efficient" may not be correct under many circumstances.  Not trying to be annoying, just want to correct potential misconceptions.  Here's an interesting article discussing the reasons you might find interesting: http://www.quora.com/Does-a-white-background-use-more-energy-on-a-LCD-than-if-it-was-set-to-black

Your link won't open for me but that used to be true for LCD monitors however CRT monitors (yes they still exist), high-end LED monitors, and most Amoled screens like on mobile devices, do require additional energy to generate white pixels vs black pixels.

i just don't like the white because I tend to keep my rooms dim. So the white light is blinding. Thats why a lot of art programs use greys and even black for the UI. *cough* Daz Studio anyone?

Thinking about it, we should really upgrade the forum to be better for Daz Studio users sharing information and tutorials. Were we have icons that represent the tools available just like emotes! Never gonna happen, worth a shot.

I don't care about energy comsumption, I care about the fact that it's physically painful to read the forums now.  As for using a brower style..  works great for the forums, on the store page it messes up the popup images.  I can add exceptions for it, but it sees the store and the forums as the same site so I can't tell it to turn on for the forums and off for the store, I have to do it manually which is a pain.

Even if some/most monitors just block the light, dark still means less energy for those that have energy saving ("smart") monitors. So white is guarenteed to use more energy.

These shopuld be simple style sheets (or equiv) so not too much trouble to add. If you force users to rely on third party plugins then you have less control of the user experience, so it's better to control it yourself. Or provide a way for users to pick colors, etc. in the site setting.  This Snowblind Bright theme will likey spwan requests for a light theme as well as dark. I do not get the "lots of work" argument -- e.g. DuckDuckGo has lseveral light and dark themes and the serach reults, image results, etc. look fine either way.

And regarding light vs. dark themes, for a site using images to promote products, why would you want the bright white around the promo images competing with the promos, causing eye strain (why do you think the "fake paper" Kindle's exist -- it's a docuemnted fact that light baqsed displays cause eye strain). They should at least go with a default medium gray theme to reduce eyt strain and appease epople in high-glare environments.

I dont care what the color scheme is I just know it is slow and frustrating try to use. Also Items listed on sale on page show full price in my cart. Too bad I was going to spent over 100 now I will spend 0.

well at least I will save some money.

Here's how the forums look for me with the "color that site" plugin for FF, just affects the forums also.

Okay, this is too much. Everyone here, open a support ticket and TELL THEM THIS IS NOT ON!!!

This is what Support just told me:

With the new logo design, it was best to leave the website design on the white background. We're sorry for any inconvenience.

Send them a few thousand complaints. Who the blankety-blank designed this, anyway? The same design outfit that just ruined Renderosity?

    /rant

  • After clearing all my caches and trying again the price did show up in my cart but now half the items are no longer on sale. Again I have to say I am dissapointed

In other news: the DAZ Original icon spacing is kind of messed up -- it's too much to the top-right!

Funy thing - I always used the "light" (default) setting for the old and older still forums and never had a problem. When I first saw this white-and-blue I thought I liked it, but after reading five pages of posts in this thread and another about the UI, even I am getting a bit snow-blind. I join the call for a darker option.

So this is the new face of DAZ?

Umm...folks, does anyone else find it odd, that finally after Iray shows up we start getting more realistic settings for diffuse colors, specular and what not in the preset materials, but the lessons learned are NOT translating to the website?

    254 254 254 IS NOT a good choice for a background color!!!

Oh right, that must be the reason why the new logo is in a black bar at the top of the screen then, it definitely looks better on the white background... Err, hold on...

I've been trying to figure out a way to discribe what the new color layout is doing to my eyes... Snow Blind is pretty much it. I'm having a hard time reading the forums, and the yellow is almost impossible to discern agains the new bright white. I'm not sure if the white really is brighter than before, but it sure feels that way.

The yellow text is a bit hard to read against the white.  I did not notice that at first since there is not a lot of it.

I bought them yesterday for $16.95, so do you really think I should ask if they could give me $6.97 back? Would they really do it? Is it appropriate?

Yes, yes it is. Put in a ticket. I believe the Posted policy someplace is that if it goes on sale within 30 days of your purchase, you can ask for a store credit for the difference. I had something like this happen a while back, put in a help ticket got a credit.

    Okay so my final verdict:

New Logo - I really like it! Since Daz indeed specializes in human figures, I think the logo suits them very well! And I also like the colors : )

Fonts - LOVE the new fonts, looks much neater and nicer! I also like the yellow notifications as they stand out!

The white - It does not bother me but I do feel like a shade of blue would be more suitable perhaps? Or some kind of blue gradient, they should definitely experiment more with that!

Let me join the chorus telling you to submit a sales refund ticket.  It's not just 'appropriate', it's the reason I shop at this site.  I don't use it often, but when I have to/want to, it's crucial.  At other sites, I can't feel comfortable buying something and knowing that a 50% off sale, or a bigger coupon, etc., might not be right around the corner.  In fact, one site even made a game of it, 'Use this coupon today, or wait for tomorrow when that days coupon might be bigger OR it might be smaller!  Take your chances!'  I can't stand that kind of game, so I shop here instead.

It helps that the quality assurance is such that I don't almost ever have to return something for 'poor craftsmanship' reasons.  I do occasionally buy one or two items from a bundle, and then later (within 30 days) decide I want the rest, and swap it out, but that's rare.  Fundamentally, though, the 30 day safety net is what keeps me shopping here comfortably.

Do the math, show your work, and let them know the order number, the price, and (if you can) the SKU of the item, and how much you're asking for, and whether it's store credit or refunded to your payment method.  (The latter takes longer, and outside of one time when things went very wrong, I've never had to use it.)

    Hey there fox!

Yeah I just submitted the ticket! I´m curious to see how it turns out : )

Anyways, with the new logo change, when do you think DS will have a new logo? Maybe DS 4.9 might be in the works?

Funny thing is, I use many websites with smaller fonts, and white backgrounds that don't cause any eye pain ...  It's not just the background color (although in this case it is a major factor) but also font colors...

Maybe I'm in the minority, but omg I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new design. The font size is absolutely perfect, so much better than the huge other one.

It's been a while since I could say I was happy with a DAZ choice, but boy, I'm LOVING this. :)

the new smaller font is much better, I agree.

What an ironic reply. The DAZ logo on the top of the page is on a black background with white text!

Well I opened a case. I spend a lot of money here. Pretty insulting that we have Darkside in DAZ Studio but no option here. Not a good call by the marketing department. Yeah, it may be possible to use a plugin to change it, but that doesn't change that it's insulting to the customer base. Geez, might be time to check out RDNA. Or use render rewards for the last time at the sinking RMP ship. At least RDNA has a dark theme for the forums. Whoever thinks this is a good idea at DAZ -- they should crazy glue their eyelids open and then force them to use the site for several hours.... (just kidding about the cazy glue).
