Sorry if this is a repeat. I wrote the same a few days ago, but can't find my message or anything else on the subject. Does anyone know why the so-called "Weekly" freebies aren't changing?  The list has been basically the same for about 2 months.  To make matters worse, most of it is textures for things I don't have and don't want. I accept that I might not want what's currently on offer, but at least show me something new!

    Thanks for any answers.

The last time they changed was on 11th August. Before that, they change on July 28th.

I know that for a fact, because I am keeping track of them and post them for almost every day since early 2014 in the translation thread.

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/33484/uebersetzung-der-regeln-bei-daz-shop-sonderangeboten#latest

That doesn't mean that these are all new , never-have-been-free-before freebies. Matter of fact, if you take the effort to scroll through the posts of that thread, you will find that it's a rotation between several items.

The only "true" weekly freebie (used in the word-definition of freebie used by DAZ3D) is the one of the PC - one new freebie every week, and one monthly freebie.

I was just on my iPad marvelling at how bad the reporting at CNN is and this poped up on the side... Good old "Ice cube down er' pants girl"

    It's an example of:

One- The only DAZ ad that can make me snicker every time I see it.

Two- An ad that implies something that may be misunderstood by anyone not familiar with the current Freebie system here.

    A side note on Everyday...

Everyday is an adjective used to describe things that (1) occur every day, or (2) are ordinary or commonplace. In the two-word phrase every day, the adjective every modifies the noun day, and the phrase usually functions adverbially. For example, every day you eat an octopus for breakfast. You brush your cat's teeth every day. Maybe you climb up a tree every day. These are everyday activities.

Everyday = ordinary, regular, normal or commonplace. It can refer to something done or used daily or routinely.

You should wear an elegant spacesuit for the wedding, not just an everyday one.
Even though he has a horrible parasite infestation, it hasn't changed his everyday life.
Some everyday activities can damage the fabric of time/space.

So... were they "everyday" free models... the ones everyone downloads and knows and nobody is surprised by because they are more common than breakfast octopus... or were they, New... every day?

Actually I'm the last person who should be poking any fun at anyone's use of grammar, especially when its semi-correct.

That's a very old ad you have found there,  that one was discontinued yonks ago.

Discontinued? I see it all the time.

No, its very much live and active. I see it nearly every day. So it needs to be shut down on all the affiliate sites.

Thanks McGyver for the image. I mentioned this ad a few days ago on the forums but didn't have a picture handy.

I sometimes see that ad and more modern ones in the same session on a single site. I have a feeling that bugged eyed one converts better however. That's why it was never taken out of rotation. (dat expression)

I just chalk it up to 'if advertising is so obviously full of poo, is it really misleading?'

I don't think it was always full of poo though. And if you didn't know better, it seems legit. Cause they never said what KIND of model. I assumed today was bannana day. And tommorow apple day. Free 3D models!

The natural obvious meaning of the ad is 'you can add a new model daily.' As in EVERY DAY I get something new to add.

Now, mind you, that doesn't seem like a viable business model to me, but then I didn't write the ad.

Really? I see that one at least 2X a week on Imgur and some other places as well. Might want to foward that info to those who pay for ads.

Which is true, if you only buy one of the freebies a day.  Every two weeks there are about a dozen older items offered for free, plus 2 new items that are free with purchase.

Once you start a long explanation of how 'freebie' or 'weekly' is to be interpretted, it smells like marketing hijinks.

I'm not put out about it -- a bunch of stuff IS free, including the base engine, plus constant updates, and material all over the net. This is SO AMAZING compared to having to constantly shell out cash every few years to use the application. I mean, seriously, it blows me away.

But it makes me eyeroll every time I see that ad.

While Daz always had a limited feature free version, the day they gave the pro version away and 64 bit support for free with all the fancy tools I became a huge fan. Couldn't imagine going back to not having all the features the full version offers. Makes it easier to share tips and tricks too because everyone has the same features now.

As other have said, it's still very much up and running. And especially ironic at the moment given that Teen Josie isn't even curently available.

He means: currently there are about 14 (I can't count them as I am logged in and have all - so it's empty for me) "real" freebies on the freebie page http://www.daz3d.com/freebies

If you put one of these in your cart each day (not all of them at once) and check out, you have a daily freebie.

    *grin*

Those old adds were true at a time, but not any more.

Thanks for the comments, everybody...esp Mr. Poser, with the simple idea to sort by pricing. I haven't checked the forums in quite a while, so I wasn't aware of the new way to access my thread. I thought it had disappeared twice.

I've been using DAZ for a little over a year now and I must state that the "Weekly Freebies" list DID change completely in the past. I'm not whining that I don't want what's offered, just that it IS NOT CHANGING.  I will check the link that some of you have mentioned.  Thanks again.

I checked the link.  Not helpful- it's just the same Weekly Freebie list that I was already talking about.

The weekly frebies changed last on August 11th. They haven't changed since then. And given the current disaster with the content library, and the fact that there were no new releases today (not even any new sales), it's safe to assume that the freebies will not change today, either. :-)

I have seen in other stores for physical items, buy one get one free but only at the physical store if they have your size.  Otherwise it is buy one and get one for a penny.

  • Does this ever change?  I see the same thing every month with an occasional swap of a few items, but overall the same thing.  What they do have requires a non-PC item at a higher price?

If it isn't going to update then why even have it?

  • ChoholeChohole Posts: 33,604

Merging this thread with the other one one the same subject.

It is updating. Just not "every week". Last update was on 11th of August, before that, on 28th July. And there are plenty of people who don't have the items which are freebies yet. (and personally, I rather have freebies which change occasionally, and where you have the chance to get some great stuff over time  - like, M4 pro suite! - than have them get rid of the section.)

About the price... well, you can just look at it the other way around: Whenever you buy something, you can load your cart to the brim with whatever "freebies" that you don't already have. As you buy the item anyway, and not in particular to get the freebie, you will not suffer any financial loss.

Of course, if you are one who's only interested in getting the freebies for free, no strings attached, then, I'm afraid, DAZ3D shop isn't for you. smiley

  • From what I have seen it hasn't updated at all in over two months.  What they have up now has been recycled several times.  They are using the same two weekly sets over and over and it rarely ever changes to anything new.  That Gothika Cabinet and Kids 4 Ballet Textures have been in there since around April except for the weeks the other set is swapped in.

How about some M4 items?  They're old enough to warrant being freebies since the V4 items are.  I noticed many of the M4 items are listed for outrageous prices.

lee_lhs:  Unfortunately many of the new freebies I do see are for DAZ Studio only.  I'm a long-time Poser user who hates the DSON importer because it slows down Poser.  In regard to your last sentence: I've been with DAZ since it was Zygote and they had about four items in their store.  I have spent and continue to spend thousands of dollars here so I'm not one of those freebie mongers you seem to be implying.  I've also been using Poser long before DS came out.  I stopped coming here for about two years because of Genesis then when the clothing died out for the Mil4 characters I decided to take the plunge because the clothing was better even though I have to deal with that DSON importer.

It's update quite a few times in the past 2 months...it's just that you must have everything that's been on the list.

We must be takling about a different list.  These items rarely update.  I don't have any of them because they're mostly textures for items I don't have/want.  There is no way to hide items I own so they're always there.  It isn't like the other freebies where you can hide.

It's below the DAZ Studio promo at the top.

I was told you can get the PC freebie Item if you buy something for that freebie.. But to me that just buy one get one ,  or BOGO as we girls call it for shoes sales..lol so I dont see it as really being free item because you have to buy something to get it. ,

But luckily there are sites where people do post truly free content Like

sharecg.com , Renderosity.com, 3DHive.com , RuntimeDnA.com and i few others  but those are just off the top of my head  and those sites don;t require you to buy anything to download the free item. ,

some venders also have web sites of their own and offer free stuff on them like MED3D and a few others .I shop daz store because of the quality  of the products if I was here just for the freebies I would be frustrated. because those freebies are wore out & out of date. and need to be updated to match what daz sells, to draw its customer base to what the current market their selling..  not free for stuff where you need to buy the required product to make free textures work.  Really!!! . thats not free thats just Bullspit   .  though I do like the fast grabs when they updates those about 3 times a week wink

I think there's a misunderstanding here. First of all, perhaps you should have defined the meaning of "update". It seems that update is two very different things for you and me. To me, the update is a change of items in the freebie section. Wether or not these items have been in the freebie section before is of no consequence, as long as they are different from ther ones that were there before that update happened.

I agree that the items sem to be rotating between 4 to 5 different sets, with the occational "outburst" of totally different items packed in between, but in general, we are talking about 50 items that are "rotating" in the freebie section during a year's time.

If you are unhappy with the contents of the freebies, I'd recommend that you write to customer support, because they are the only ones who can actually do something about it by taking it to the right people. If enough people write to customer support about this topic, chances are good that you will see changes. It has happened in the past (when we suddenly got the M4 Suite dealt as a freebie).

I have not implied tha you are a "freemonger", that is you putting words into my mouth. I just say that if you are looking for "no strings attached" freebies, DAZ3D shop is not the place for you, because they do not have the type of frebies. They only have the "buy something, get something free" freebies. You will have to look for these "no strings attached" freebies in a different shop.

(If this is caused by my not very good English, I apologize for any misunderstanding the translation between my native language and English might have caused.)
