Woke last night to sound of thunder... How far off I sat and wondered... Started humming a song from 1962... Ain't funny but a storm was blowing away Port Jefferson...

Yeeza... Crazy storm last night... Not bad here, but North of here the towns got the snot knocked out them... Power is still out for many of them.

Amazing lightning show though... Continuous upper atmosphere lightning, almost a burst every second for about an hour... It was like strobe lights and fireworks.

Cool!  When I was in college (Florida Institute of Technology) back in the middle of the previous century I lived in the dorms on the third floor one year.  Out my window I could see over the palms out to the ocean about 3 miles away.  One night there was a huge lightning display over the shore and bolts were jumping from cloud to cloud, within the same cloud in all directions, from cloud to ground, and from ground to cloud (yes they do that and yes I could tell).  the bolts were illuminating the clouds like some fantastic fireworks display behind frosted glass.  Magnificent display fantastic to watch.  Little did I know that just a few years later I would be involved in a scientific study of that phenomenon at the Kennedy Space Center.  Cool stuff!

We sat down and worked out a plan to get things rolling in the right direction.

I also sent emails to a couple people who mentioned they might have room for me to stay temporarily until I can get into a place of my own again.  Am also more leaning towards the early SSI retirement as that would be a certainty even though iot would be less per month than disability (which is a more long drawn out process usually requiring appeals to finally get approved).  So the situation is still serious, but there is a bit light now where there didn't seem to be before.

...Thank you.  Yeah a very busy month ahead. Need to check with the SSA to see If I can to get the early retirement process rolling now as well as find out if that will nullify my disability claim.

The downside is I was self employed a lot (living hand to mouth) or in school, so nothing was paid in during those times.

Blech.  Well, best of luck in getting everything you can out of them! yes

Are they a different size when you aren't waiting for the bus?  Do you normally change your socks while waiting for the bus?

  • LeatherGryphonLeatherGryphon Posts: 12,117

It's that time of year.  I've been getting advertisements from resorts in Orlando telling me to come and enjoy low fall rates.  Sooo tempting! indecision  I wanna go..., I could afford to go if I knew there were no unexpected expenses in my life for the 6 months.  I want to go see the new Harry Potter stuff at Universal Studios.  And it's been a long time since I've been to Magic Kingdom.  My health is, for the moment, satisfactory but I can't rely on it continuing so.  Gasoline rates are relatively low.  My 12 year old car is in good condition and the air-conditioner works.  Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Wasn't there someone else in this thread recently who said they had plans to go to Orlando this fall?

They are the same size when I am on the bus.  I normally do not change socks when waiting for bus.  I only do that when I just get a new pair of socks.  My feet were hot so I changed into new socks and found out they are knee highs when I thought they were ankle highs.

I treated myself to new socks instead of visiting Orlando.  If I visit Florida it would be Jacksonville not Orlando.  I know someone there and they will let me stay at their place.

my socks were not as expensive as Orlando.

Does it play dead?  Possums are not cuddly.  When they play dead, it is not because they fear the predator...it's because they want to kill the predator.  When the predator moves in and stand above the seemingly dead possum, the possum spreads its very sharp claws and tears the belly of the predator to shreds...leaving it to bleed out while the possum goes on its merry way.  Fierce is an understatement.

    The designer's logo. surprise

I once went into a sports store to buy a baseball cap.  Just a simple, single color, unadorned baseball cap.  They had one but it was too expensive for me.  Then I saw the same cap, with a Nike logo on it and it was three times as expensive!  I'm sorry, but I feel that I should be paid for advertising for Nike, not punished. angry

Oh..., bummer. sad  But I know how health vagaries can interfere with plans.  That's why I'm thinking I should take advantage of the current "clear weather" in my life situation.

Back in 1995, I was 47, excellent health, bodybuilder, motorcyclist, financially secure, but had recently lost my long time partner.  After a contemplative grieving period I decided to "take a break" from work.  I quit my job at a prestigious think tank, and decided to cash in my retirement funds and take a year off motorcycling around the US, Canada, and Australia.  Some of my workmates called me foolish, stupid, selfish, and other unflattering adjectives and told me how dangerous it was.  But my reply was.  "I'm at the peak of my life, if I wait until I retire I won't be able to do it.  If I do it now and die I'll die doing what I've always wanted to do.  If I do it now and survive, I'll have stories forever."  (translation: mid-life crisis)

Now that I'm retired, without retirement accounts, living on Social Security only, I know I was right.  My body started breaking down at about age 55 and now at 67 I know I could never take a trip across the state on a motorcycle much less around three countries.  Heck, a couple of weeks ago I was worried about having a stroke going up a flight of stairs!  But I take great solice in my stories.  My point being, "make hay while the sun shines"!

No, Muscat and Muscadine grapes are completely different.  My wife once got the evil eye from a greengrocer for pointing out that the muscadines were mislabeled as muscat grapes -- to her, finding muscadines were a great find, but the greengrocer obviously felt muscat had greater cache.
