With the hot weather I was surfing the net and downloading a few E-books on my laptop. Storm was coming through so I switched off in case of lightning strike.

Laptop made a strange short sound as it turned off. After the storm tried turning it on and it refused to go. Bought it in 2010 so it's done a bit of service.

Ordered a cheap refurbished Laptop - hope it gets me through a couple of years, only got a small SSD on it so that will limit what programs I put on it, will mainly use it for surfing the web.

Back to square one. Supplier who I ordered laptop off sent message saying computer was out of stock. They offered another model for same price. When I checked that model at their store it was nearly 30 dollars cheaper. Demanded refund and got it. Back in the hunt at other places now.

And I thought my two machines are old at 2020 and 2017.  Have you considered a memorial picture of that old macnine on your wall?  wink

Lots of fish in the creek out the back, told the grandson he'd better get the rod out before the penguins eat them all.

It is -11 Celsius here right now, and dealing with the aftermath of 2 straight days of sleet.  I'd much rather have snow.  I have been in my pajamas for 48 hours.  Luckily, I still have power, hot water, and all that good stuff.    Fortunately it is the time of year for the playoffs for American football.

YouTube and the internet are gaslighting me

    Debbie Downer

my mother called me that FFS

    she died the year 2000

the internet is claiming it was invented by Saturday Night Live in 2002 and it's a Mandella effect

I have never heard of the SNL skit as never actually watched the show

they do this all the time

yeah, probably was popularised by SNL though I have never watched it either...

I remember it going back to the 70's 80's and we used it a lot when my wife's brother married a Debbie....

that was a downer for him lol

so SNL probably stole it from us wink

That does not sound like a place, but a science experiment.  Is the nitrogen in the atmosphere starting to condense on your bathroom mirror? surprise

they did the same thing with Soft Kitty, warm Kitty

claiming Big Bang Theory created that song

Play School and Patsy Biscoe's versions in my childhood had me scratching my head over that

    unsuccessful law suits followed

it actually stayed under 40°C here

I was still hot though and my little kitty Lucy was flat out

This is always an issue in the 48 Hour Film contest.  Teams have to sign a form stating they have the rights to use any music.  I typically supply the EULA from Digital Juice for the royalty free music libraries I purchased from them.  Some of the music is pretty familiar, but how the company got the rights is not my problem.  Although ... the company has folded, so ... but I'm sticking to my copy of the EULA.  cool

I actually found out for the first time that Big Bang claimed that song when I wanted to sing a version in an early video clip so checked it online as I do all nursery rhymes and was very puzzled as it predated their claim since I knew it from childhood

by a century at least it turns out.

"In 1984, Aerosmith was recording Done With Mirrors — but Steven Tyler was so lost in the chaos of the era that he didn't even recognize their own ballad 'You See Me Crying'. He suggested covering it ... "

I wonder if he thought about suing himself for plagiarism?  wink

I snapped my ballcock off of my toilet inlet valve

now I have to turn my water off at the meter when not using until I can fix it

fortunately I have lots of buckets and watering cans but my cat keeps drinking from them

if I can find a part that fits, I can easily fix it myself but not having a lot of luck so far

  • StezzaStezza Posts: 8,837

you only need to turn the water off at the cistern.. there should be a stop cock just before the inlet at the bottom of the cistern.

It's only a small stop cock..

and then just replace the whole inlet valve with a universal one from Bunnings ... maybe about $25

I just bought an inlet valve

    from Bunnings too

might be the same one yes

but will need my brothers help as I cannot unscrew it

there is a siezed up inlet tap that cannot be shut off or I would have

last time I got a plumber to replace a tap, I asked about it and he said it couldn't be fixed as ancient and never been turned for probably 50 years and not worth fixing

its on the wall, pipe in cavity going to loo

    my toilet wasn't leaking then

pretty much the same... they change designs all the time, I guess it depends on who the supplier is at the time.

It should be straight forward for changing the stop cock.. being old it will probably have copper pipe coming from the cock to the cistern, if so just get a flexible chrome hose to replace the copper tube ( can buy the hose in several lengths ) and replace the stop cock with a new one. If everything goes well it should only take about 30 minutes to do. Your bro shouldn't have any problems doing it. wink

Finished doing most of the app downloads, a couple of programs are refusing to work on Win 11 - the price of progress I guess .....

Frightening words to me as a user of numerous "old" software, even "abandonware".  Hopefully Carrara works on Win11 as some have stated here.  surprise

Steel Panthers - World at War, is a computer war game that has not been updated in ages. Other uses on the forums report it is not working in Win 11.

Zotero - a search reference program, don't know why this one is not working. EDIT-got it working !

Also had a problem with the installation of my CAD program when it came up with Activation Code out of date.

Have not installed Carrara or Bryce yet, with 256GB of Hard Drive I am watching how much space I have used up.
