Have you checked out DreamlandModels stuff over at Renderosity? Some nice city blocks there. They go on sale now and then. He has a few low poly sets, too.

    Dana
...yeah, they had a recent sale as well. As I understand they work better in Poser though.

Been saving for the release of Sprawl 3 ever since Stefan first announced it. Was really wowed by the promo pics. Many of his contemporary urban sets work well together as I illustrated in my "Summer in the City" pic where I combined the NYC Townhouses, City Courtyard, and various buildings from Urban Sprawl 2.

But his stuff is so expensive! Most of us here are hobbyists, and that fact seems to be lost on him...on a lot of vendors, actually. I can't even afford his stuff on sale.

...true, but considering the use I get from them particularly since so many of his urban sets can be broken apart and mixed together, the price is worth it. A lot also has to do with the genre of work one does. For me, his sets are indispensable. Given the quality, I still find them a bargain compared to what one can find over on sites like Turbosquid or CGTrader

Planetside 2. I suck. lol Nothing like dying in two hits when the sniper is behind me hiding behind the wall.

Here is another game that I am trying to reinstall. 31 GB in size? How much 3D graphics and texture does that game have? My runtime library for Daz studio 4 (dso) is 30 GB, I think. Or maybe the game has lots of spoken audio in stereo quality?

Got up at 5:15AM to catch the 6:05AM bus to get to work by 7:05AM. :blank: I need to get in early, so I can leave early. Plus, the 6:05AM bus is only one block from me, so no mile and a half hike in the freezing cold! :cheese:

How big is your town? I can get into Boston in an hour. In an hour and a half I can be at the New Hampshire border, if traffic is kind. Usually traffic is not kind, though...not in Boston.

    Dana

Tulsa is a mid-sized town, but the bus service is pretty minimal. Most buses run every 45 minutes, some once and hour, some once every 2 hours. :gulp:

Timing is super-tricky if you don't want to spend 45 minutes waiting for the next bus...

Austin was miles better, but.. no work for me there when my contract ended. Town was going to Hell, too.

Yep, we ran out of handbaskets years ago. CapMetro just increased all fares again.

Crikey! When I got there it was the best transit value in the U.S., then it went up.. and now again.. ouch! :ahhh:

...sounds like they're taking a page from the Tri Met (Portland OR) playbook. I almost thought of moving to Austin if I could scrape up the funds. 31$ for a monthly bus only pass compared to 100$ here was a deal. I rarely if ever ride our LRT here as it doesn't stop anywhere near where I live and lately seems to be breaking down just about every day (mostly due to power outages in the system - and of course they always seem to happen during the AM/PM commute times).

BTW, are they reducing services there as well? Here we experienced both the biggest fare increase, accompanied by the largest system wide bus schedule reduction in the history of the system a couple years ago (of course the LRT network, the "Stupmtown Trolley" and the financial sinkhole known as WES commuter rail were not affected).

Although they got some bendable buses, the service has gone down. Expanding the rail system is being pushed, even though the voters keep turning it down. It appears that we would rather get around town before visiting the outlying communities.

...ugh and so it goes I guess. Sad to see this fascination with what amounts to nothing but a glorified streetcar ruin a good transit system.

Every time I read or hear that a city or metro area buys into the LRT/Streetcar game at the expense of providing good frequent and reliable bus service (like happened here) I keep being reminded of the Simpsons Episode Marge and the Monorail.

Yeah, our commission won't even consider "bendies" anymore after they bought a bunch of poorly built ones from Hungary back in the 80s, even though the ones available today are much more mechanically sound and reliable. If I am not correct at least 2/3 of Seattle Metro's fleet are "bendies" and the commission there is instituting a plan to reduce overcrowding by adding more of the longer buses and improving frequency during the commute times.

Meanwhile here in Portland they will be opening a 1.5$ Billion (yep, with a "B") 7.3 mile long LRT line this September while eliminating a couple routes and "adjusting" (read reducing) bus schedules on several different lines.

I don't think that it's 'lost' on any of them, but the time and effort that goes into the making of these sets - especially ones of Stonemason's quality and detail - would go for much much more than $40 and whatnot in any other situation. Might seem unfair, but it does make sense (And many other similarly detailed pieces on other sites won't be priced like that! D: )

    ...I tend to agree.

I did a bit of perusing on CGTrader a little this evening to discover 4 sets of similarly detailed urban blocks priced at 349$ each for what is roughly four square blocks. I believe Urban Sprawl 2 encompasses 16 blocks so at it would take all four of these modules at a total of around 1,500$ to create the same cityscape Stefan's set offers.

Tubosquid primarily had a lot of single structures. What collections they had for the most part did not include street tiles or props save for a few with the cheapest being 149$ (for four contiguous blocks) and most expensive at 800$. One which was of the area surrounding the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (499$) had very low res ground textures no where near the quality Stefan's sets have.

So yeah, an initial price of say 49.95$ for Urban Sprawl 3 (estimated on what Sprawl 2 cost) may seem a bit high, but again for the quality of detail and workmanship, it is nothing in comparison to what one would be shelling out at one of the "Pro" stores.

There's also the fact that many artists of Stonemason's skill level often shun and look down on Poser artists and would sooner drop their 3D career than sell their work to us to use for any price (A dinosaur artist I long admired tunred out to be this sort of person, so terrilbly venomous to anyone using Poser and still a bit grouchy towards any non-MAX / Zbrush users, and very hostile towards any cricitzim on his dinos - unless of course your'e a similarly "famous" artist. Lots of respect for him lost after I found this out.).

Stonemason really doesn't need to be offering any of this to us period, so I really do admire him for that ^^

Sydney sold its monorail for scrap, to google I think, and put more buses into service. We need more water stuff here, would pay extra to travel on the rivers instead of sitting still on the freeways. Worse right now cos an extra half million people are in town for the tennis :)

Commission I got, two of my dino characters I adore quite a bit, with Claw the velociraptor trying to get at the sushi her friend Dilo the Dilophosaurus (And ye thought Claw was an imaginative name! :P) by being all affectionate and stuff, which is startling the dilophosaur since usually she's all cranky and stuff xP

    Sushi though! :D

Think of how Boston will be if we get the Olympics like they're trying to do. It can take a half hour to go from one end of the tunnel on I93 to the other, starting on the outside and ending on the outside. It can take another half hour to get a mile or two leading to the tunnel sometimes. This is on a normal Friday late morning/early afternoon, not during rush hour! They want to add Olympic traffic to that? They're crazy! I think it's a bad idea. But Boston was selected by the Olympic committee out of the few US cities that tried for it. A final decision hasn't been made yet, there are cities in other countries in the running, too. I highly doubt that businesses in the city will shut down for one or two weeks while people watch games. A big portion of the businesses downtown Boston are made up by the financial district...huge companies like Putnam Investments. I don't think they'd stop for anything short of a terrorist attack.
