    ...OK found that.

Though still getting a fair number of items for Gen 4 and even Gen 5 showing. One would think the sort would be by how relevant (from 100% - 1%) the product is, so that it would first sort by all items unique just to "Aiko 3" at the beginning and then on down to items that are also compatible with other figures to those with the widest compatibility at the end of the list. I also shouldn't be seeing items strictly for Gen4 or Gen5 in the search results for Aiko 3.

It just seems to have been made more complicated than it should be.

I don't have personal knowledge of exactly how the DAZ website is internally setup nor am I DBA. So, take this with a grain of salt. However, I'm familiar with the design philosophy of a typical DB based website - which DAZ almost certainly is.

The main problem with non specific "queries" (using the search box) is that certain short/common search terms (like numbers and small words such as "a" "and", "the", etc.) are often ignored because they would pollute the results by returning too many (irrelevant) matches. Keep in mind this is because the DB is doing a "wildcard" search. In other words, it's searching through most, if not all, of the fields in each record, attempting to match the data to your entry. But when using a filter, you are choosing from a finite set of options. The "query" is then searching one specific field in each record for a match, where the data in said field is the same as one of the options in the filter.

For instance, it is possible, that when you type "Aiko 3" (even with the quotes) into the search box, the "query" may ignore the 3. That's because the "3" could also potentially match all V3, M3, etc.. I'm not saying DAZ's DB "queries" are set up that way, but it's not an uncommon set-up. Now, if you "filter" by figure "Aiko 3" then the "query" will only search one specific field in each record (Product info) for an exact match. The data in that field for any given record would be one specific figure that was same as one of the figures in the filter list.

Again, I don't know that that's the exact way that DAZ's website operates. But I'd guess it's something generally similar. Also, my experience with the search box on the old site was no more 'accurate' than the new one. I found that typing in a figure in the search box (even with quotes) would typically ignore the generation of the character and just return generic results. For the purposes of this discussion, it wouldn't matter whether I typed in Aiko 3 or Aiko 6, it would generally return any product that had "Aiko" anywhere in it's name or description.

Anyway, I hope it doesn't come across as dismissing your frustration. Due to the nature of various operating systems, browsers, and browser versions, it's not uncommon for results to be different for different users. My only reason for posting this was to offer one reason why you may be experiencing frustrating results. And I only posted that my experience was consistent between the two sites to hlight the old adage YMMV - not to disagree with you or rub it in that not everyone was experiencing the same problems that you are.

Either way, I hope that your experience with the new site improves. I know I get frustrated when visiting sites the cause me grief but I need to visit them due to the importance of the content. So, I can at least empathize with you there.

    Good luck!

    ...thank you for the insight.

Guess I'm bit spoiled as more than two decades go I worked for a firm that developed very sophisticated search engine particularly given the state of technology of the day. As our main product involved libraries of medical journals onto CD ROM for use by hospitals and universities, accuracy and relevance of a search was extremely important. Granted a CD/DVD ROM is fairly simple compared to a world wide network, but I would think the basic search principles would be the same. Now I know nothing about today's scripting languages having left the programming field after suffering major burnout (back in the 486 days when the net we are so familiar with these days was still in it's infancy.

I have been on sites that have more precise search engines than here, many that include an advanced search option where you can custom define the parameters. (like, "match exact phrase: Aiko 3" which only returns a result of "true" if the target key exactly matches the phrase as entered). Maybe this is what Daz site development needs to look into (we used to have it to a degree in the forums search on old the pre-Magento site).

Another option would be to replace the "People and Wearables" category with one simply named "People" and have the other categories like "clothing", "fantasy", etc. be subsets of that instead. This way when one is looking for related characters, morphs, or skin/texture content, he or she doesn't have to sift through a lot of clothing, hair, and even vehicles.

Also, we could use a few more drop down filter menus like "Props", "Scenery", "Vehicles", and "Software".

That's a good point; I just tried to dig into "People and Wearables", and I can select either G2 People or Clothes — there's no obvious way to select one then select the other as a subset of that. And why is it so difficult to search just for what seems to be the G2 base character selection? They're buried in the mass of dependent characters, morphs, clothes, hair etc.

The new search system seemed nice enough to begin with, but I'm less confident as time goes on just how useful it'll end up being. There's so many things it just can't do.

...and I feel that has a bit to do with the current UI setup being designed more with touch screens in mind than keyboards. It is lot "clunkier" to get around on from a desktop or notebook.

They also really need to have the top sales banner work like it did on the previous site. Sometimes it does that fast scroll (which is dizzying if not nauseating to look at) when the mouse pointer is near it or at the top of the screen. Can't use NoScript to eliminate it, for doing so basically shuts off permissions for the entire site.

I have firefox 32, and while it works (no problems when I did purchases)...I still have the same issues I posted before: the images are tooo BIIIIIIGGGGGGGGG (especially the carousels) and they load sooooo much SLOOWWWWWWWWWWWer than the old site. Although I will admit for the past couple of weeks(since the 17th) it has improved. Image loading speed anyway.

I was also forced to give up trying to load all of the page, I set it back to 60 items at a time and I don't have to fight the page as much. Still as slow as heck compared to the old site, especially with regard to the wishlist. It is just too much hassle to use now. Takes too long to load and the images are too big forcing a whole heck of a lot of scrolling. I also had items I wanted to purchase at the same time in the same spots of my wishlist. Now they are scattered like buckshot all over the list.

As I said the wishlist (with 300+ items in my case) is just too much of a pain in the backside to use. I think I may just go in and bookmark a few thinks I am thinking about/watching. But I will tell you this, many times I found a few things on my wishlist that normally I wouldn't have purchased at that moment, so perhaps I should be happy that Daz is saving me money lol. :)

I will also add the redirect to the main account page upon login in annoying. I find something I like, log in, and it kicks me to the account page. Thankfully page back usually works. But still it is annoying. I never logged in, then went to my account page. Wishlist yes, but never account page. Unless I was looking up a product I had to download manually or grab templates.

This is one of the big turnoffs for me as well in the new layout — I knew pretty much where everything was, I knew if I wanted to group things together, all I had to do was bounce them from wishlist to cart and back, and they'd move to the end of the list. All that careful ordering is now gone, making the wishlist a lot less useful.

gaahhhhh how do i permally uncheck the hide'em box?

I've pretty much given up at looking at the store from home - I usually end up with three or four items in the top two rows (the new items) that never load a clickable image or link. Two or three retries and still nothing to look at. So - when I have the time, I take the laptop to a wi-fi hotspot and check to see what I've been missing.

This is really going to save me a lot of money.

No can do — it seems whenever we click to any other page except a "next page" link, the hide box gets re-ticked.

I'm sure I remember this being mentioned as a serious annoyance several times during the beta period, but I don't remember if any official DAZ reply even acknowledged it. Time for a bug report, maybe?

Don't know if this was mentioned, but the drop down menu only shows a few vendors. Really annoying. Whose bright idea was it to implement this during the holiday season?

Type the first couple of letters of the PA name in the field at the top of the list and you should the get a chance to choose the vendor in the drop down list.

It's such a pity that this is a perfectly valid and correct response to any number of queries about the new store. I'm still finding features that would probably have been quite useful over the last week or two, if only I'd known "oh, that's a clickable icon that does something, is it?".

I thought there use to be a way to unsubscribe to newsletters in the account section but I don't see one now. However I did just check and at the bottom of every email newsletter there is a "click this to unsubscribe" just click that link, I know that will work. But I am not sure how you will resubscribe later if you wish to. Might require a support ticket at this point until they get it back on the site.

    ...just checking FastGrab and Freebies.

Never quite got into the BOGO concept of having to buy something I may not really need at this time to get a discount on something else I like. Seems to defeat the purpose of the discount. May as well purchase the item I like it at the normal price.

I'm with you there! I'll just wait for one of the ubiquitous vendor 50% off or Flash sales. For somebody who sees something they want in the new releases, it could be OK, I guess. But I won't buy what I don't want to get something else a little bit cheaper.

Well it only works if you are getting 2 items you want. If not then yes the discount is not worth it in that case.

I will say that the site has been much more responsive in the past couple of weeks. And I thank Daz for working on the issues. I also like how the shop, technology, galleries, etc links at the top are no longer hid behind the the line bar. Ironically I hadn't seen it much before. But right after it was said that it is a "standard" it poped up on several sites I use. A bit of a pain for a desktop website as it involves clicking twice when you don't need to. With a small screen it is understandable

I am still hoping that something will be done with the default size of the thumbnails, they are still tooo big. And more importantly allow us to sort our wish list by date added. I have several items I add in groups and I want to get them all at once. Now I have to search all over and rarely find them. Or worse yet, I get a add on pack for a pair of pants, but don't own the pants yet, I add the pants themselves to my wish list but now I want to make a note that I have add on textures for this. It is HARD to find it in the list. There is no search and I can't look by date added which use to be the default and I could just look at the bottom to make a quick note.

I've been away from DAZ for a few month and am now having difficulty navigating the new shop.

Can someone tell me how I do fine filtering like when I'm in the Hair category, I used to be able to filter for Long or Short. I'm not seeing some of that next level filtering options that used to be there in the categories. Am I just missing it or is it no longer there?

    Thanks.
