Well, today I dove into this Octane Render pack and the videos.  I find it isn't as tiedious as converting to IRAY all those years ago and for that I am greatful.  However, can someone point me to a written or non-video version of how to bake the makeup in on characters?  I think that was the only thing I had a problem with.  It's been a really, really long time since I did much with textures or baking or nodes and I got a little lost.

Also, does anyone know how to render with a "clear" background.  Is there a "turn off dome" option in Octane somewhere?  Or do I simply turn it off in DAZ?  Reason is I often make stock models for composite work and I don't want to have to cut them out.  I like to turn off the dome and ground and save them as TIF/PNG files.

    Thanks!

I think that there is an option to have just the figure you want to render, just not sure where the option is..

Sorry for the late reply, as to how to bake makeups I suggest using Layered image editor in Daz, makeups that come as diffuse overlay in Iray can be overlayed on the base/diffuse channel (screenshot attached). You may need to apply ORK materials again after this change if it doesn't load uyp the temp lie map right away. Hope that helps.

Alpha channel is available in Kernel Settings (screenshot attached), it behaves as Dome off and when saved as PNG background should save transparent :)

Another thing, I can seem to find all the comments (getting a bit lost between groups, forums, youtube so please bear with me), but for the issue of materials not loading, or surfaces not showing (like eyebrows), it's explained in the video at the very beginning. DO make sure loading materials from .duf is checked in preferences at all times otheriwse you will get no embedded data in surfaces, only auto conversion (screenshot attached). Also, not sure why devs still left some surfaces listed under surfaces filters but you can clear that field altogether as it will hide surfaces listed there (to the best of my knowledge it was done in the time of V4 and imo it should just not be present for newer figures as it just creates problems).

Another list of solutions I have assembled since ORK release, that may be helpful with any further questions in case they don't get responded in time:

*) I have a problem.... (insert so many things) - Please, watch the included video tutorial first. It covers everything from downloading and installing Octane, to everything included in the ORK and how to use included templated shaders, render settings and similar. It explains the Preferences tab, how to reload/rebuild the scene if it isn't updating between the plugin and DS viewport and similar.

*) My figure/character renders all black? - See above, it's also in the tip in content library. Materials are templated shaders (don't include textures) you should load them from surfaces tab by selecting Genesis 8 surfaces>right click>Replace All Active Maps, this will pick up textures you have in the scene and load them in their respective slots.

*) Noithing from ORK pack loads in my plugin - make sure that under Preferences .duf is checked at all times (and surface filter field is cleared), this enables the plugin to load all settings saved in the .duf file you are applying. To save preferences, check all Preferences on an empty/default scene, close and reopen Daz, they *should* be set as defaults now.

*) Can I use materials on Genesis 3? - Yes, surfaces are same/similar so shaders will apply to Genesis 3 too.

*) Can I use ORK in Octane 4 and earlier? - Some of the settings included in ORK package use the new shader nodes (Randomwalk SSS, Universal Material) that may not be fully supported/didn't exist in previous version. Lights, render settings and some of the materials/shaders may work, but not all.

*) My Daz Studio doesn't see Octane plugin - Make sure you installed it properly, it will automatically install into C:/ if your DS isn't on C drive, that may be the problem.

*) My DS crashes on load after installing Octane - Make sure you don't have another instance/version of Octane plugin installed, you can run only one or DS will crash on load.

*) My DS still crashes on load and gives me errors, or my settings won't save - Deleting C:\Users\[username]\OctaneRender\Data\OctaneRender_settings.oczdb may resolve the issue (DS needs to be closed to delete), this resets Octane plugin settings to default and solves many of the unexplained issues with settings/material loading and similar.

*) Something in my Octane doesn't work properly - Octane support forum for the Daz Plugin is at Otoy official website, if you encounter any bugs or issues it's best to adress them there: https://render.otoy.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=44

There's probably more but I hope this list helps someone :)

    Happy rendering

     Thank you!

I had to shrink down the file, but this was my first experiement after watching the videos.  I think it will only get better from here.  I've learned a few things over the weekend and I'm excited.
