Well, you're all still doing better than me as I can't even get it to install.
Yes, you are correct CPU not GPU, too big of a hurry a lot.
Yes, indeed
.And for Mac OS only (so far). https://home.otoy.com/octane-x-pr1/
Currently they are on PR4, and offer a stand-alone demo version of PR1. We might see the turn of another year, until all plug-ins are available (given that DAZ Studio will not be ready for macOS 11 before mid 2021 no hurry for the DAZ Studio. plugin on otoy side, I suppose).
Has anyone answered this question yet? I also would like to know...

For subscription information they usually refer you to open a ticket/contact Otoy support, but from my personal experience I have seen the dates moving further forwards over time and haven't expired for me yet since they gave it for free, and I'm pretty sure I first "subscribed" for Prime close when it was released, it's also been two different versions of the free plugin since if I am not mistaking (I think first one was 2019). Unfortunately I don't have any other reliable information to give as only Otoy can really answer that.

Watching first video. How do I get the 3 Octane toolbar items to appear on the toolbar, if I've previously installed and just now activated the plugin?
Have you restarted the Studio and does Octane tab open showing it's activated when you go from Window>Panes>Octane? It may be the layout thing, try a different one and see if they appear in any other layouts, I always use City Limits because it shows things to my taste.

Switched to City Limits, thanks!
Yeah it is not an easy one to find out, I tried and failed to find any concrete information.. For me will have to wait till December to find out what happens, but have a guess that since even the paid versions are renewed yearly, probably be the same for the free version..
You're welcome, glad it worked :)
I was once very vaguely replied license will be updated automatically, but that's been a while ago so the best I can make with a very uninformed guess is that maybe the new version comes out and dates start anew again? That would be nice as there's a couple of bugs that I'd be glad to see gone in free tier :)

As not sure what the whole business was went silly and made another account at Otoy.. But after doing all the rigmarole ya have to do, I decided yeah nah lets just see what happens with my current sub.. The silly things one does on a whim.. But yeah will have to see what happens when my current sub date comes up..
Ok, THANKS for the INFO! Sounds like it isn't a worry.

Just quick tested Octane in Unity and it still works, so I will stick with that.
Just wonder, if people using Octane directly from Daz Studio got the same version as mine.
Has also noticed, that my graphics card GTX 1080 is not quick enough - I cancelled render at 50%, after almost 43 minutes.
It is awesome to have so many choices in DAZ Studio! Now, to find time to learn them all and find the best ways to use them.
Great videos! Thanks for all the info packed in them.
I'm having trouble with blurry renders. If my camera isn't set for DOF but I'm still getting areas of my portrait or scene blurry in Octane, where can I look to fix it?
I haven't gotten around to installing the latest DAZ studio Octane yet but it is likely your aperture.
Octane seems to have an auto DOF effect. I think there are several ways of adjusting it. One of the ways is you can click on the camera in the upper right corner of your OctaneRender Viewport and adjust the F/Stop slider.
I know there are other ways too, like adjusting the settings in Daz Studio panes "Cameras" tab which should have "OctaneRender" settings there. I'm just learning how to use Octane myself so I'm not completely sure. So forgive me if any of the information isn't 100% accurate. :)
I am very used to the integrated Carrara interface and cannot recall what the equivalent D|S parameters were
had issues with my Octane being deactivated after Windows10 update 2004 and there has been another one since, had to end up losing one of my lives at Otoy deactivating/reactivating it on this PC, I don't think I even redid the file extension on the previous free tier D|S plugin which I added .BAK to disable it since, so who knows what license headaches I am in for, cannot even use my paid for D|S version either.
OUCH! Is there a way that you can contact support or something to be able to get that into use? If you paid for it it would be a real shame to not be able to use it! :(
it's out of date now anyway, was version 2 the free tier is later than 4 which I use with Carrara
just too many other issues going on with my house to fiddle with setting it all up right now, I have to shut my Win10 down fast with little notice when the neighbours start spray painting their car so I can escape to the far side of the house before I cough my lungs up.
This should work, you could also change these parameters in the Camera settings in Daz under Octane settings, same settings appear there when installing Octane plugin :) You can also set different camera focus from the viewport from the borrom tabs where you can set it to connect to the Daz camera settings (so focus isn't auto but where your actual focal distance is), or if you want it to a single point autofocus or area autofocus. You can also click on things in the viewport in real time and it will refocus where you click it/select a bone or material. Most of the time Octane auto DOF is pretty smart on its own, but these options always come handy if it decided to throw itself off onto a far or close item instead of the model :) If you don't want to fiddle with it too much switch between area and single point and back and it will refocus better given a second chance if it didn't first time around. Except for DOF Octane comes with a few more handy settings under cameras you probably want to test out and get familiar with in case they prove useful for your workflow.

Thank you! It was the F-Stop at 4.
Thank you for these tips! I must have clicked on the viewport, which threw off the focus. That is a pretty cool feature though to click and it will refocus!
I use a customized City Limits Lite layout. The Octane icons are under Viewport Tools. Go to Window-Workspace-Customize or press F3. In the activities tab open the Advanced and Toolbars + signs. Right click the Viewport Tools item and click on Enable Toolbar. Hit Accept. The Octane icons should appear on your toolbar. I moved them to the end by dragging the Viewport Tools menu item to the bottom of the list in the Tool Bars tab.
Hope this helps.
Thank you, this is great! I was using City Limits Lite too for years, as City Limits is too cluttered for me. I only switched to get the shortcuts, so now I can switch back!:)
Running into a couple of issues.
1) Opened a saved scene where I had added the ORK skin shaders, but in the Octane viewport G8F looks like a clay figure again. The shaders are missing. Load mats from .duf in Preferences was unchecked, but I had it checked. Update: I deleted the OctaneRender_settings.oczdb file that @valzheimer suggested over here, made a new scene and saved and reopened it later and it worked!
2) In one of the videos you showed how to add makeup with L.I.E. to the base face mat. So I created a new layer and selected a makeup from runtime/textures/vendor/vendorproduct, but I can't get it to show in Octane's viewport. I've tried the right-click convert active maps, even tried different blending modes, I rechecked load mats from .duf in Preferences b/c it isn't saved either on a new scene or a saved scene, and rebuild scene. Even tried different vendors makeup products, What am I missing? The only one that I tried that worked was Charlotte 8 and her makeup from Daz, but shortly after Octane viewport froze and stopped working.
This video by Solomon Jagwe helps fix the issue with a character's eyes not catching light!
In Octane's Preferences, there is a filter that is set to bypass the eye material:
Clear the text in the filter and press Set:
In the video, he searched LiveDb in the Materials tab for "Cornea" and applied that material to the Cornea, and the copy to Eye Moisture.
Thank you for the great product @valzheimer
I really enjoy tinkering with render settings, but when starting with the auto conversion it's so tedious to fix surfaces one by one.
This kit brings a great reference to start from, and you can still play with textures and shaders to get the look you want.
More options for Daz Studio are always welcome.
Did a real quick test render:
Well, today I dove into this Octane Render pack and the videos. I find it isn't as tiedious as converting to IRAY all those years ago and for that I am greatful. However, can someone point me to a written or non-video version of how to bake the makeup in on characters? I think that was the only thing I had a problem with. It's been a really, really long time since I did much with textures or baking or nodes and I got a little lost.
Also, does anyone know how to render with a "clear" background. Is there a "turn off dome" option in Octane somewhere? Or do I simply turn it off in DAZ? Reason is I often make stock models for composite work and I don't want to have to cut them out. I like to turn off the dome and ground and save them as TIF/PNG files.
Thanks!
