    an Unreal Asset in Carrara

    https://www.fab.com/listings/84e0fd02-9c0a-468b-9c3b-f454d4326f4e

    free for a short time

this was as always a PITA

I did it in DAZ studio first and loaded that into Carrara, FBX export from UE5 with every texture manually added which is slightly easier to do in D|S as one can drag and drop into the surface parameters

I painstakingly grouped alike objects in Carrara too, there are a lot (1773 meshes)

replaced the brick shaders with  Mec4D ones as they looked awful exported as Unreal procedurals

You have much more patience than I do.  Wonderful to be able to use the assets though.

Very nice, impressive detail in the workshop and the music sounds very good.  This AI stuff might catch on. wink

Octane is all subscription now and AFAIK you cannot buy old versions like my OR4 and if you have later cards they are not supported either by that version, I bought mine a long time ago and honestly wonder how much longer it will work, definitely cannot upgrade my 2080Ti or likely my Win10 PC

however subscription does come with lots pf bonuses like Embergen and some Kitbash3D freebies I think too

(at least last time I looked)

Luxrender, I have no idea, never worked for me ever when I tried it

Thanks. Yeah I saw the octane option in modo. Lux works pretty well with Blender. Not as smoothly as Cycles, but amazing quality. I saw the old beta information, not sure where it went. Will have to try to track it down. Sadly, I had a nice Canon scanner that they just didn't make newer OS drivers for. Really, not the best design framework.

    Homeworld

    Previously on the Chocorabbits Saga:
By observing a new, mysterious planet, the Chocorabbits decide to land on it with an expedition that will search for traces of cocoa. But while they are busy with the sampling, our intrepid explorers stumble upon a strange monolith, which turns out to be an astonishing sort of portal to other worlds…

Where will this strange passage lead? How dangerous will it be?
Amazingly, by entering the monolith on the chocolate planet, our heroes reappear… in the Land of the Chocorabbits!
Is the Chocoplanet somehow linked to their home? Maybe even to their origins?
What could the relationship be? A question that remains unanswered, for now.
Being pragmatic, it definitely is a convenient shortcut.

    Best wishes for a…

Thanks. That was interesting. It works, but seems development stopped? Will have to play a bit.

After a few failed attempts and a Windows 10 update to Windows 11, I've finished another image.

There's not much to say about it. With the large scenes, you have to push a lot and repeatedly do test renders, which takes a lot of time.

Very Nice. There is a lot going on there. Not sure of the work flow, but besides the tweaking with polys, instances, billboards and lighting. I can see a distinct forground and background, so this could be speed up doing compositing. Otherwise, a render like that could take awhile.

The rendering took about 4 hours, which is perfectly fine for scenes like this, at least for me. I've also had renderings that took 18 or 20 hours. :) Of course, you can insert a ready-made background and only work on the front part, but I enjoy building everything in Carrara. I have plenty of time for this kind of thing. I don't have to create many images, perhaps from pre-made backgrounds or existing scenes. I have fun doing it and am always learning new things about how things work. I'm always impressed by what you can create with such an old program. What if it had been updated? What could it still do today? It's a shame that it's slowly being forgotten.

Good point.  Carrara is still my main tool for short animations, e.g. the 48 Hour Film contests.  Supplemental programs include VUE (now free) and Particle Illusion for FX (also with a free version).  For my graphic purposes, these cover it all.  Other programs cover music, sound FX, dialogue, etc.

Yes, Carrara still has some mojo, Lol. 4 hrs is still a lot for a still. The lux render would be cool with GPU in Carrara. Blender does some amazing rendering in Cycles and Lux in minutes with tweaking.Howie's scenes render pretty quickly though. Carrara can be tweaked also. I really do want to find some of the C8 plugins I have missed.

Thanks ! Yes it is a Wirraway, 3D model created by briney, was available at ShareCG but alas that is now closed down. Briney also did an excellent Boomerang.

Very nice model.  I keep an eye on aircraft models and have never seen that one, but I did not frequent ShareCG.  Now I see why people did.  yes
