FWIW, this is what I get on firefox The two missing carousels for what's hot are my doing - with Adblock Plus 'block item'. Done in self-defense when I was on dial-up and don't see any reason to put them back. I just cleared the new cruft out of the Fastgrab the same way. 1920 X 1280 laptop.

Yeah, that's the 'old-style' with the carousel. New one looks like this (in Waterfox on my laptop)

From something mentioned in another thread - it'd be good if the sliding frame had an indicator of how many items were in there (like the little circles you see on some sites - with the current one filled in) - that way people know how much to scroll)

I'm not a fan of the new layout either.

The only thing I'm hoping is, since the new design gives so much prominence to the Weekly Freebies, and to Fast Grab "New Items - Added Daily", is that those sections really will be updated that frequently, rather than being allowed to languish for ages with the same old products, as sometimes happens.

It's worse than that — here's the showstopper that, hopefully, will kill this new design and bring back the old one.

I can't tell which one of the single-rotating-frame banners is the new one for today.

If I can't tell which one it is, I can't click on today's new offer. Not unless I click on all of them.

If I can't go to the new offer for today without more clicky-clicky, I won't see or buy the new offer.

This is a stupid idea, it should be abandoned. Sorry, DAZ, it's a dud.

I have to agree, I preferred the new style.

  • I had it for a day. I think I like it. Easier to navigate than before, I had to go back and forth.

The old layout was much better. I was able to see more banners simultany.

I don't mind it on desktop but I got it on mobile first and it was very, very hard to use there. It took a long time to load and for the containers to arrange themselves, and there's no easy way to swipe between the different offers so it took me a few minutes to actually click on the thing I wanted to check.

Well, the circles thing would solve that by the leftmost circle being the latest added. Either that or they add dates to the top as well, but that could get messier.

I agree that it was nicer (and easier) to see a few days together and be easily able to see at a glance which were the latest ones. But I can also see why the newer design would be neater. If they're set on this path, the circles-thing (can anyone tell me the proper name for those, please?) would be better than not.

+1  It also make it difficult to figure out how old a banner is, and when you can expect it will expire.

I never post I lurk. I absolutely detest this new layout and probably won't buy as much because I can't even figure out what the offers are.

It's auto-scrolling a bit fast and you can't stop the scrolling for jotting down the coupon codes.

But I like the new lay-out.

I had been seeing the new layout all the time, and now it's back to the old version. Weird!

Same here @Torquinox ! We are always so alike haha laugh I had been seeing the carousel banner since March Madness and now with the 2nd Couponia coupon code it's suddenly switched back to the scrolling banner! But the question is: for how long?

Alike is good! wink  I was comfortable with the new layout. It was a little jarring to go back. I'm guessing that new layout will return one day.

The new layout doesn't seem to work well on mobile. The new sections are too wide and are off the screen. Took this screenshot simply in Chrome dev tools but it does the same thing on Chrome and Vivaldi on my Pixel.

  • I wouldn't bother to post just to say I don't like the new layout - except I really, really loathe it.  It's so slow to load, and fundamentally uninformative.  Static things (like Fastgrab) take up too much space, whereas the things that change the most frequently get one massively over-sized frame that fails to promptly or functionally inform.  I really wish it would go away.

  • Worlds_EdgeWorlds_Edge Posts: 2,153

I'm just now (not yesterday) seeing a new layout - where once was a scrolling banner with all the things scrolling side-by-side, I've now got FG/PC+/Freebies banner images in a static bit on the right, and everything else in a scrollable frame on the left. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think the old way made it easier to see everything - each day's sales page gradually moved over and eventually dropped off - made sure I didn't miss anything (as a PA, I like that).

This newer way looks a little neater at first glance but isn't as user-friendly IMO (agree with SpottedKitty above here).

I agree with this completely.  It looks neater, but it is hard to get to the sale page that you want.  That goes double on a mobile device.

There a number of things I can address in the new banner. I will look into them and keep you folks posted.

Not to be rude but is it too late to stop the new format?  While I don't do web design I do realise it's a lot of work with competing and sometimes conflicting goals and mandates from above so I do respect the amount of effort that goes in to web design.

    Personally:

     - a more useful change to the "old" scrolling wide banner would be to remove the expired promos in a more timely fashion.  I just counted 7 promotions (including the current double-wide Alawa promotion) plus Fast Grab plus Weekly Freebies plus Platinum Club+ panels.  I can't believe all 7 promotions are still in effect.  Even with caching I don't understand why the banner would be more than 2-hours out of date.

     - The Flash sales should include a "Posted on" date and time in local DAZ time.  This would be especially useful for the "Four Hour" flash sales (four hours from when!?!).  I guess some of the flash sales may be limited by amount sold so posting an end time wouldn't always be possible but a start time should be.

     - Perhaps you could add "Fast Grab", "Weekly Freebies", "Platinum Club+" items to the pulldown menu next to the shopping cart. (the menu that includes "My Account", "Wishlist", etc).  You could remove the panels for them from the carousel; no reason for them to compete with the changing promos for space in the carousel.  Maybe add buttons or text-labeled links above or below the carousel that take up less space than a panel if you also wanted something more visible on the page.

     - an auto-scrolling carousel makes it difficult to record coupon codes (or even just read the text).  Kill the auto-scroll and use left and right arrows for manual control (don't overlaw over the promo panel; it makes them more difficult to see and to click).  There should also be an obvious beginning and end to the carousel so we know which promos are the more recent.  Of course, putting the date/time posted on the panels would help with that, too.

    Thanks for listening!

I really hope one of those things is the issue I mentioned upthread — that I can't tell what today's offer is, so I can't tell which too-quickly-vanishing banner panel I ought to be clicking on. Is it the one for the new G8F character? You might know. I don't.

This design is a dud. It is less useable than the old one.

If this new one continues, then I will be missing out on sale offers and not buying so many things from DAZ. Not because I want to, but because I just plain don't know they're today's new offer.

I agree with Cybersox. A lot of web designers don't know how to leave well enough alone.

The old design was much better.

I don't like the new format.

It might work better on phones and iPads, but I don't do much of anything online with my phone. I have a 24" monitor, which I'd love to upgrade to something even bigger. I'll be d@mned if I'm going to surf the web on a 6.2" screen.

I'm not a fan of the trend to make all things web look the same as if they were viewed on an iPhone. The ability to determine what browser, what device, what screen size, has been around for years. CSS can be coded to display the page based on such things. Why make all websites look like they are viewed on a phone screen regardless of the device? Is it that much more work, and expense, to support both phones and desktop/laptop computers? Mind you, this is a general statement, not aimed at Daz3d, but the entire web-as-a-phone-app mentality that seems to be taking over the internet.

I just wish Daz3d wasn't jumping on the band wagon.

It does NOT work better on the iPad! Firefox for iPad still has the old design which is great. Safari now has the new one and is unusable.

The newest banner is the one it starts out on when you frirst get to the page, just like the old system.  If you miss it, use the arrows on the banner to go back to it.  To stop it from scrolling, just hover your mouse over an arrow.

For my puyrposes it works fairly well.  I usually check out the Fastgrab and freebies everyday.  I also don't usually look at the old banners so, I can check the first one or two and then go on.

I'm pretty much in agreement with everything L'Adair and RangerRick said. Yes, I have a 'smart' phone. It is a PHONE and any web look ups I do with it are to answer immediate questions. 99+% of my web access is from a 1920 X 1080 screen, either my laptop or my desktop. I'm not interested in scrolling down to see the newest items in the store, which is why I've permanently blocked the "What's Hot" and "What's New" carousels - I don't know if they've changed, but they used to show me lots of icons with a little cloud image indicating I already owned the item and just wasting screen real estate.

FWIW, I have one iron-clad rule for my internet-connected systems: Nothing is permitted to run full-screen. Firefox gets the full 1080 high but only 1550 wide including the bookmark sidebar - and Firefox is the largest item I have on screen.

It's not uncommon for a promotion to last a week, most last for several days unless there are special sales like the recent PC+ sale.

...I even gave up on using my phone for the forums as embedded images get stretched out of proportion and it is difficult to insert line/paragraph breaks when entering a post. about the only time I use Data is to check the transit tracker to see when the next bus is arriving, checking sports scores (moot at the moment), checking business hours or needing directions to get somewhere when I'm out and about.  For pretty much everything else I use the desktop system.

That said, the one thing I mentioned which bothered me the most about the previous setup was the auto scrolling as I found it particularly hard on the eyes when it would reset to the beginning, and yes, an issue when needing to copy down coupon codes.  Remove that "feature", and it would be fine.
