The Mysterious Case of the Vanishing Cat:
in Search of the Real Procol Harum

    http://www.procolharum.com/young_cat-claude1.htm

...saw them 49 years ago at Summerfest 1970 in Milwaukee.

I never saw them in concert but I remember their music.  But years later, probably early '90s I was on a business trip for the HP consulting company I worked for.  I was there (NYC area) for several days and my other half came with me and stayed at the hotel while I went to work.  I came back one evening and he said "You'll never guess who I had breakfast with this morning!"  It was the Procol Harum group.  My other half was always a fascinating looking and gregarious person and while he was having breakfast alone in the hotel, one of the group members came up and started talking to him.  My other half had spent several years as a school boy in England and when this was known, the group invited him to have breakfast with them.  However, my other half had no idea who they were and they just talked about English school stories until near the end of the breakfast, one of the roadies wearing a Procol Harum T-shirt came up asked some questions about how the stage was to be set for the evening gig.  And sure enough the group was going to be playing in NYC that evening.  I never met them but my other half was over the moon for a couple days. yes

Max (my other half) had some sort of magnetism.  He was in a restaurant one time when we lived near Cape Canaveral, Florida and was approached by a member of the military skydive team "Golden Knights" and offered a chance to jump with them on some practice runs for the local airshow.  Again he was over the moon for a couple of days.

I don't know what it is about Max and restaurants but he was having pizza for lunch in our local downtown Washington, DC restaurant sitting with a female friend of ours and he was approached by the actor Jack Nickolson who said they were an interesting looking couple and asked them to come over to his table for a while.  Max got him to autograph his pizza box.

Max was gifted a large portrait of himself by an artist (Erwin Mayr) whose primary work was portraits and many wonderful florals.  His portraits included some major DC governmental personalities, an ambassador, and prominent members of the gay community in Washington.   Max had introduced him to the art community in Washington and he flourished.  So, in thanks he painted his portrait for him and gifted us the portrait and an original of one of his florals and three signed lithographs of a set of florals that represented three stages in his career.  Erwin died of AIDS about a year later.  Max died about two years later.  The set of three florals were called: 1)  "Despair in New York", when he was living in a run down NYC building yet he painted a surreal image looking out a dingy window looking at a dingy city view but with a beautiful small vase of flowers in the window. 2) the 2nd was called "Prosperity" painted after he'd moved to Washington and Max had introduced him to the galleries.  It's an exuberent vase of flowers on a table with an incredibly detailed white crochet tablecloth underneath  (Erwin was amazing at detail).  3) The 3rd was painted just after he'd learned how sick he was and is called "Life".  It is a larger painting than the other two and is of a magnificent vase of flowers on another incredibly detailed rich red crochet tablecloth but one of the flowers has a broken stem and has fallen over resting on the table but you know that it will be withered and plucked out of the vase shortly.  This symbolic detail wouldn't be noticed unless you knew his story.

There's not much written about Erwin Mayr, his career was quite short.  I've been hoping to find somebody who knew more about him or what happened to his paintings.

I have Max's portrait hanging above my TV chair.  The original floral is at my brother's house.  And the three floral lithographs are identically framed & matted and hang in my office/livingroom.  None of the photographs or the even the lithographs of Erwin's works capture the depth of the colors in his original oils.  Painted in many very thin layers the colors show great realism and subsurface glow when the pictures are well lit.   In Max's portrait the hair & beard around his head has a halo effect in the original oil.

    ..wow.

The only famous group I sort of got to know Blood Sweat & Tears (when David Clayton Thomas was still with them).  They played a couple times at the Summerfest as well as other concerts in Milwaukee.

    Lovely portrait.

Complaint: I still haven't gotten any of the prizes that were offered for having the last post in the Last person to comment on this thread wins - Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition! thread. One person declined to honor their offer because they were no longer in the PC+ club and the other person hasn't responded to my PMs inquiring about it.

Yes, only in Poser 11 or Poser 11 Pro.  There are certain new features used on her that are only in Poser 11.

if not, i'd venture to say the kitty/birdy are perhaps possibly maybe more the focus of the giffies than.. well, the paper towels XD

must be the language/geographical barrier but i don't get it. for me amazon delivers books. and a pantry is a room where you store food - or possibly food items too. and prime is some sort of elite customership, VIP stuff, like PC+ here. so why should amazon bring you some kind of more better food???
also, why does the delivery service not ring the bell and wait for you before they dump the stuff out there?

Well Amazon Pantry in the UK is a waste of space really.   Only food items are prepacked stuff, tins, jars and packets and such like. Very limited choice.  No fresh food.  Prime is quite useful if you use Amazon a lot, as for one yearly payment up front you can get free P&P for qualifying orders during that year.

We do get a proper delivery service in the uk as well,   they knock and wait for you to answer the door.  Also you can designate someone else to take your parcel in if you are not there when they arrive.  I am designated delivery point for 2 of my neighbours.

Amazon Prime is like DAZ PC+, you pay extra to be in the club and get deals on shipping and products that not everyone gets.  Amazon sells much more than books.  As for the delivery service, UPS, Federal Express, just don't bother anymore.  They used to wait for you to take the package, and make you sign for it.  for the past couple of years, they don't even knock or ring the doorbell anymore, they just drop the package and go.  It's a point of contention for me.  What if I'm not home and they're leaving an expensive item?  We have two cars.  If we're both out in one car, they think someone is home if there is a car there?  Actually, that doesn't even matter.  Even if there is no car there, they still just drop the package and go.   angry

The solution is to install a "Package Airlock" fitted through your door or wall. enlightened Things go in but won't come out the same way.  The delivery people have a digital key to open it and once the package is in, it is mechanically blocked from going out the some hole.  Nor can a small person or even a trained parrot get into the house through an open "airlock".  This solution fits in quite nicely with so-called "Commercial Progress".  Every solution is yet another another product to sell.devil  And of course you can get "smart" package airlocks (I don't think the actual term is "package airlock" but whatever they're called), the smart ones call you on your phone and let you know a package was dropped into the airlock.  Whatever happened to the idea of dropping packages from drones?  Or the idea of having packages delivered by mini-robots.  Now there's a bright idea.  Lets let small uber expensive machines carry packages on the street and hope nobody thinks of kidnapping the robot complete with his cargo.  And how long will it be before we see bigger drones flying around kidnapping the delivery drones.surprise  Are the delivery companies still persuing those ideas or did they wise up and fire the High School genius who thought up those ideas? indecision

i see.. everyone, thanks for the explanations about amazon prime and the pantry stuff. ^^

actually, i hate it when delivery companies dump the stuff outside when you're absent, many do that here too. but the official post service has its own flaws here, they do the contrary - they DON'T dump the stuff when you're absent... they take it back. leaving you a notice in the letter box to come get it at the post office (which for me means in town, 40min walk or 10min walk+ 5min bus one way... and don't even mention the weight/size of the object), tho you can call them and ask them to bring it again - hopefully when you're home ~
i don't get deliveries often, i can't afford neither the shipping prices.. nor the items, really, i only buy cat- & human food. but last time i did they still tried to at least ring the bell. tho right now, i don't even have a doorbell lol, neither downstairs nor at the proper door where i live - and just knocking, forget it, they'd have to find my flat (attic) door in a labyrinth of farm-ish house doors and stairs and terraces and gangways XD. i'm not easy to find, and i love it.

Complaint:  Arghhh...  my primary computer (Win7-Pro) is sick.  I let it update and also downloaded new graphics drivers and was in the process of rebuilding my personal account and now some programs don't work anymore.  I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and stick in a fresh hard drive and rebuild the OS from the ground up, copy over my archived personal data and manually reinstall all my software that I only actually use.  If I succeed then I'll probably be happy until the end of official Win7 support.  But It's time that I thought harder about getting a new primary computer.  This one's already 8 years old, has only an i5-dual-core CPU, has too little memory (8GB), and has an inadequate graphics card for modern DAZ work.  So, now the choice is: new computer or healthy savings account?  Can't have both. frown

I have an old single core laptop and a very woozy 12 year old dual-core emergency desktop and both have been upgraded to Win10 but they are both excrutiatingly slow and a pain in the butt to use.  I also have two WinXP machines but they're currently collecting dust behind a chair.  And except for playing old Myst games they would be more useful as boat anchors.
