    All meds have side effects.

True. For most people on statins the benefits far outweigh the possible risks.

No comfort to the one who does experience the bad side effects.  When I was rear-ended several years ago, I was given a high dosage of ibuprophen by my doctor for the pain.  I went back to see him a couple times to be checked up.  The first time, my blood pressure was quite high.  I did some research and found out that all NSAIDs have a particular side effect...elevated blood pressure.  Mine was already kind of high before he prescribed this.  Next visit I chewed him out for prescribing that after complaining about my blood pressure.  He admitted that he should have told me the possibility, but "It only occurs for a small number of people!"  Well, of course I was one of those people!  I've never taken another ibuprophen since then.  It never helped a whole hell of a lot for pain anyway, not for me.

I have a different side effect from it: energy reduction. I can take it rarely for a headache but not on a regulsr basis. That's another know side effect of Ibuprofen.

I think more science, more study of causes, needs to go into the development of medicines.  That has started to happen with some medicines, like those that use DNA targeting.  (don't know if that is the correct word)

..Statins have in some cases been clinically known to increase the risk of or aggravate diabetes.

Since I had myself taken off, my blood sugar count has improved instead of remained steady.  I am also not nauseous every day, sometimes to the point I don't want to get out of bed.  One can maintain his/her cholesterol level through diet without the adverse side effects of the medication.

I also have maintained a very low sodium diet for a long time.  Persoanlly, I never liked the taste of very salty foods and my BP is often slightly lower than average rather than high.  If I go out to eat (rare these days), I always request no salt when I order as it seems every place uses too much salt.

Yes, you can. But with misty's diet her cholesterol is likely going to stay high enough to need medication.

...hopefully she isn't as sensitive as I am.

Besides avoiding high fat foods as much as I can, I frequently have whole grains which also helps balance the count.  This is part of the reason I rarely dine out and avoid fast food places like the plague, as you don't know what their sources are.

I have an air flyer and haven't deep fried anything in a quite a while. I use Safflower and Olive oil instead of Canola or Soy, more expensive but much better.  A 32 oz. bottle of safflower lasts me over 5 or months.as does a 500 ml bottle of Olive oil. I also use a bit of pure sesame oil in my stir frys primarily for seasoning.

I want out of here.  Not Daz but away from the staff.  She told me to do something but added a please which seems rare for her so I thanked her for saying please. I thanked her for encouraging saying please, but she acted like I was being smart.  I cannot stand that.

Still Complaining:  Pain, pain, pain...  crying I'd hoped that my back would have settled down by now, it usually lasts two days and by the end of the 3rd day is tolerable and by the 4th day I'm almost able to not scream when I walk.  But this is the end of the 3rd day and the pain is as bad or worse than the 1st day.  I can spend only a few minutes in my computer chair.  I'm considering professional help tomorrow.  The doctors should be back from holiday so either the GP or Chiropractor or Emergency Room.  Unless the pain subsides tomorrow morning then getting out of the house and into and out of the car then into the doctor's waiting room then back into and out of the car, and back into the house will be a journey of miserable proportions. indecision

I have determined one position, and only one position, in my recliner chair that is tolerably less painful but after about 45 minutes I can feel the back slipping again and I have to get out of the chair gingerly and let the bones reposition a bit for about 15 minutes while I work through the pain before I recline down into the chair again.  At least I'm todderingly mobile enough during the day to use the necessary room and get things to eat, but I'm running out of preprepared food that doesn't require standing over the stove for a half hour to make.  I spent all afternoon today upstairs in bed, where I can relieve all pressure on the lower spine and am still able to cautiously and carefull get out of bed without yelping, screaming, and whimpering.

Getting old is SOOOO much fun! angry

Is it possible you have a ruptured disk? I have been through that myself. It might be worth finding out.

I may get out of this cast on myleg and into a walking boot on the12th. Wishes and prayers appreciated.

I am so blessed to have my older brother here to help me. Without him I would have had to be in some sort of rehab at a local nursing home. I wish you all could have close loving and selfless family. heart

A while ago, I read an article about why the Earth is flat, to try to get some kind of insight into why this is suddenly something people believe in again. Long story short, I didn't understand a thing, because the "evidence" was in the form of a whole lot of diagrams and explainations about physics far beyond my schooling. So I'm simply too uninformed to believe in the Flat Earth. indecision

The reason we have all these flat-earthers is that main stream entertainment especially on TV has glorified stupidity.  It's chic to be stupid these days.  And it's SOOO much easier to believe in nonsense than learn real facts. That, and the distressing facts that stupidity isn't as fatal as it used to be and you don't have to be smart to breed. indecision

Non-complaint?:  Just got back from the Emergency Room where they poked and prodded me and X-ray'd me and Cat-scan'd me and charged me a hefty co-pay and shot me full of pain killer and said they found nothing wrong with me.  But that if I come back in two weeks still screaming they'll do an MRI scan. frown

...hmmm, sounds all they want to do is extract more money out of you.

Reminds me of when I was having serious foot issues, pain and kept getting the same line until I went to a different doctor on my own who diagnosed me as having Plantar Fasciitis.  He made a recommendation for orthotic inserts and to replace my current shoes with ones that had better arch support.  In barely a week I could walk without pain again and it never recurred afterwards even after I stopped using the inserts and purchased a new pair of shoes.

I just got scolded for not minding my business and told to mind my business.  I thought I was but a resident came up to me and talked.  I did nothing to encourage or discourage it, but never the less I got scolded.  I am trying to mind my own business.  I feel like any more info here would be political as it is about the politics of the home.

Non-complaint:  Pain killer and anti-inflamatories apparently working.  I'm able to sit at my computer long enough to DAZ a while.  Listening to Frederic Delius' "Florida Suite"  I'm very familiar with the first and the last (4th) movements called "Daybreak" and "At Night" respectively but this time I was intrigued by the 3rd movement "Sunset"  especially the part between 23:15 and 26:00

Frederik Delius: "Florida Suite" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6CrzLXUHx4  This is a wonderful piece to use for background music for deskwork.

1st movement: "Daybreak" For me it perfectly captures the feeling of a Florida morning driving a lonely secondary road out in the lower middle of the state 60 miles from any town bigger than 5 houses.

2nd movement; 'Dance by the River" 12:36

3rd movement: "Sunset" 19:15   Don't miss that small section between 23:15 and 26:00

4th movement: "At Night" 29:16 For me it perfecty captures the feeling of a Florida evening with the red glow of the sun setting behind rows of palms, the smell of salt in the air, gentle breezes and cooling air.

Frederik Delius https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Delius was English but lived in Florida during its primitive years in the late 1800s, managing a plantation for his father.  So he's a rare European composer that really had a chance to know an American landscape and wrote music that captured it well.  Living in Florida during the early years was rough!  Which is probably why he only stayed 2 years. indecision

dont you just love when the hospital / emergency room uses doctors not "in network" with your insurance?  whopping separate bill from the hospital bill.
