TerryMcG DOES have some BEAUTIFUL stuff. Well worth the cost.

Here's a piece I finally wrapped up for a model friend of mine; It's a blend of studio photography, Daz studio rendering, and some Photoshop postwork cleanup and design work. The piece is based on a gorgeous series of digital paintings done by Stanley "artgerm" Lau. Not sure if it's cool to link to his DeviantArt page, but you can find him easily if you're interested. He has a lot of superhero work, but his "magazine cover" stuff I thought was particularly fun and I wanted to see how close I could get using the photo + 3D render approach vs. painting (as I am still working on my painting skills).

I've been struggling with the lighting on this one (skydome and godrays not getting along well), and haven't found the right boots (at least appropriate ones that will play nice with G3F), but here's where I'm at witht SG at the moment- It's very much a WIP, and a partial Iray render.  Just wanted to share what I have so far, and this thread seems like the right place.

    Supergirl New WIP 1 TJS

My laptop has no CUDA cores, hence this being a partial render (despite 90 minutes of crunching).  I need to rework the lighting so that it isn't so fuzzy.

    Slowly plugging away!

Darn it... How about a silhouette image for those of us who were sleeping at the time?

Although there is not a lot of call for it, I would LOVE it if TerryMcG did Big Barda.

TerryMcG has some GREAT costumes available. Here's a recent illustration I did with the Ms. Marvel costume I bought from him.

    Here's a render I created using Poser 11 Pro.

Last year, I also paid TerryMcG to create a custom costume for me. I paid him $250 to create a costume for my character, Ultra. I created this character back when I was in high school in the 1980s (yup, I'm old), and I couldn't be more pleased with his communication during the project, and the results. There was an initial fitting problem, which he resolved quickly and professionally.

    I paid for:

    • Boots (black stripes had to be done with geometry and material zones)
    • Shorts
    • Belt
    • Shirt (including the lacing at the neck)
    • Bracelets
    • Vest (includes open/swing morphs for each side)
    • Mask (these are the same as his Ms. Marvel mask, so he included two types: open se we see the eyes, and a closed version with white lenses)

Outfit is for Victoria 4 (that's the only figure I think he works with) and he even provided two texture sets (an orange top and the version you see here). For this image, I actually scrapped his texturesand just used Iray silk and leather shaders.

So far, I've only done a few test renders with the character, but plan to create a few comic book pages with her, hopefully soon.

Note: This was just a test scene, so I used a standard scene that I bought and put her into it.

Here's another shot from the same scene. I thought it called for a little more ACTION!

Looks good; it's worth the cost to be able to have your vision realized, especially when it's something that you can use foreer (and not just an artist doing a pict for you).

It's also funny that you think being in high school in the '80s makes you old. wink

It was worth the money to have something custom created that – like you said – is mine forever. I actually tried to "kit-bash" the costume together from various pieces, but wasn't happy with the results. I bought the Ms. Marvel costume from TerryMcG to see if i could use the boots, and then when I decided that I liked the quality of his work, I actually reached out to him through DeviantArt and arranged for him to create the costume for me. I approved the use of the Ms. Marvel masks beforehand, and we discussed which of his existing boots were closest to what I wanted (maybe the Starfire boots). At any rate, it was a bit of money, but not really in the long run.

And I really liked that he worked with me on the texture zones. I really needed the boots patterns to be based on geometry, not just texture maps, because I need them to work properly in Poser when I do my b&w renders. Ditto for adding the trim to her vest. My one regret is that he doesn't do male costumes – I have a male character I would love to have created for me, but he can't do it (and, I admit, I've considred having him do it for V4 and then trying to convert it to M4... maybe someday).

Well... I started high school in the 1970s, but finished in the 1980s. And even if I ain't "old," I ain't "young" no more, neither! ;-) And I've got the stupid random bondy aches to prove it!

Ok, I accidently left out the UV map the first time I posted.

You can get some G3M Turtle Power here: https://www.sharecg.com/v/88729/browse/21/DAZ-Studio/Turtle-Power-for-G3M

A big thanks to Dimension Theory for allowing me to incorporate a few of his eye textures to round out the package.

In the base package you get the Turtle FBM, a conforming shell, eye textures, and wet and try body mats.  There is also a projection morph included for fitting clothing over the shell.  Between commercial projects I'm chipping away at some turtle specific accessories and textures.  I hope to be able to share those soon.

This is what I've got cooking up for Donnie. The Bo is updated and retextured from my original Genesis turtle package. The strap is a refit and retexture from that time period too (something I never got around to sharing). The mask is new, as are the glasses, wraps and goggles.

I liked the original genesis package, and felt it achieved the look I was trying to emulate. But it never felt that "teenage". Adhering very closely to some of the current IDW designs and bringing in some influence from film and cartoon here, I'm trying to strike a more youthful balance.

Are you sure you wouldn't like a cheaper addiciton less expensive and less deliterious to your social life? Like, say heroin or crystal meth? :)

  • Wow, that TMNT freebie is very well done. I love the new look. Would anyone happen to know if there's an April O'Neil outfit around? Or at least something I could use shaders on?

This seems kind of close to April O'Neil.
