    Does the whole Beauty of Asia thing mean that Mei Lin 8 should be out soon?

    I kind of doubt it. Looking at the "supported shapes" for many of the latest G8F clothing releases, I'm not seeing any base figures listed that aren't already released; definitely not seeing a Mei lin 8 listed. We usually see one or two clothing items with the upcoming figures listed under supported shapes in advance of the new release. That's not definitive, of course. It is possible she is coming out soon. I'm just inclined to think not.

    Nope. It seems to be missing the 30% introductory discount.

    Glad it's not just me. That's the one thing I actually want from today.

    Regarding My guy Jeans and Shirt, there was an accounting problem with one of the vendors not getting credit for it. The discount should be re-apperaing shortly. Might be a bit for all the bits and bobs to update through the system.

    Sloane Hair also mentions a Kaylee 8 and a Mabel 8. Mabel is, I assume, the counterpart to Floyd, and Kaylee who knows. Sounds like a Tween type to my old ears.

    Products are nice, discounts are deep for the products they are, but not deep enough to make me bite into my rapidly diminishing starting-$400 worth of store credit.

    The other sales were ones where you just looked at the total final discount and went, "Well, I have to pull the trigger."

    This one was easier to resist. Unless I am once again missing something that puts discounts bigger than 80% ...

  • frankrblowfrankrblow Posts: 2,052

    Last year we were getting discounts of 80-90%. Since then, Daz has been steadily reducing the discounts, so now we see discounts of 40-45%... It would be interesting to compare sales/profit figures over the last year or two.

    I've reached the point where even as a DAZ-hoarder my arsenal is saturated, what I buy now are nice-to-have-items, not badly needed items, and these extraordinary new figures like Olly. So relaxed.

    @donovancolbert (and others if you have ideas about this?)

    IS the set goal to purchase items at their absolute lowest price-point possible or is there some consideration for what you gauge the worth of an item to be?

    I'm trying to ask if you shop by percentage off as an absolute or "Is this item worth it at X dollars?"

    I ask because I have a floating meter.

    Whatever story I'm currently working on or about to work on is paramount. If I need (truthfully, really want to use) a product, I will buy it at full price and *hope* it goes on sale in the next 30 days (and I remember to catch it lol). Some things (utilities) have a higher price toerance because I feel it helps me OVERALL. As opposed to one-shot-use items or items that are more of the same.

    ATI's browser does 2 things....(well, way more than two) I sometimes see that I missed a good price on an items and go Sheesh! Other times, I see that it's at its lowest or close to the lowest price it's been so it's okay to grab it then. Other times, I see it hasn't been on sale in a while so I sit on the fence for a minute.

    I got more thoughts on this. lol

    I think what I do is a mix of absolute lowest vs. what worth an item has for me.

    The longer something sits in my wishlist, the greater the chance it's either not bought at all or the price I'm willing to pay goes down a lot, unless it's something I really want but which is rarely on sale. For instance, something I wishlisted at 30% when it's new, and which has been in and out of my cart at 66%, chances are I'll only buy it in a glitch or a big sale, even if it's only 13,95 full price. Something that rarely goes on sale may be bought at 50% or even 40% if I really want/need it.

    I believe a thing should be priced according to the amount of work and expenses it takes to create it so I generally base what I'm willing to pay on that premise.

    Oh that's a tough stance. How do you know? If it LOOKS like it takes work, then yeah, ramp up the price.

    If it looks simple or is a small download file, then no, make it cheap?

    Or is it by "respect level of category"

    clothes = big respect

    poses = little respect

    figures = medium respect

    shaders = no respect

    ? how would all that work?

    That's hard to gauge unless the vendor pops on and claims (like they all do) that whatever took Months to create.

    I can come very close to re-creating any model in the store, sans rigging since I have been modeling for years, so I tend to have a pretty good idea of what's involved and for the most part it can take months to produce a quality product. Even though I love getting a deal, I always feel bad for the PA when I get a really good deal on a non DO product (80% off = $5 = $2.50 for the PA, which doesn't cover an hour of their hard earned time and the customer base is not that big to make it up in volume either)). I based my buying on how much I will use the product, versatility in kitbashing, quality based on promos and the artist who made it (experience) and price.

    I like your respect scale, here is mine

    clothes = big respect (rigging is a PITA)

    poses = medium respect (based on quality)

    figures = big respect (depanding on how extreme the morph is)

    shaders = medium respect (good iray shaders are hard to get right)

    file size doesn't mean squat to me. Some of the best pligins had very small file sizes and I have a few products with gigs of data that are just bloatware and unusable

    I also take into account the attitude and helpfulness or not of the PA in the forums. There are 4 I won't buy from again because if this and a 'I know better than you and you have no idea what you are talking about" attitude" when constructive criticizm was brought up.. I work in retail management and a little "percieved" empathy and understanding go a long way.

    I also loathe addon packs for things like features or textures that should have been included with the product, this always smacks of plain greed.

    I've only once stopped buying a PA for attitude reasons (they are no longer here, and the issue was more "Woe is me, no one appreciates my talent and generosity" than "I know better than you"). Most of the PA vs customer conflicts in the forums I've seen in recent years I've been on the PA's side, frankly.

    Addon packs, it depends what it is and how everything's divided up. Outside of the Platinum Club, my patience for "gotta catch 'em all" multi-purchase set complexes is kind of limited. Even if I like them and understand why the PA split them up, they tend to vanish into the wishlist. Texture sets I'm open to, as long as they look better than me dropping a bunch of shaders on the object would. They are frequently by a separate artist from the original PA, so I'm not surprised at them being separate from the main release.

    When to pull the trigger is often as much a question of what I'm finding appealing that day as how heavily it's discounted, and how badly I want any newly released item that triggers the discount. What's sitting in my cart right now is a new item I would totally use alot, plus an M4/Genesis 1 item that's useful, not very expensive and that I can convert pretty easily, plus a Genesis 3 item that's been on the wishlist for a while, and has probably been cheaper at some point, but I am feeling a relatively urgent need for *today.*

    Maybe the feeling will pass off, or I'll find a postwork alternative to the Genesis 3 item, or something irresistibly amazing will come out in the next few days, and I'll dump the whole cart in favor of that. The "pearl of great price" parable in the Gospels (where the man sees a precious jewel and goes and sells all that he has and buys the jewel) always struck me as a very clear analysis of the psychology of shopping for luxury goods.

    IMO it's not that difficult to get an idea of how much work has been put into a particular item, if you have been playing with these things yourself and have some experience.

  • Griffin AvidGriffin Avid Posts: 3,814

     if you have been playing with these things yourself and have some experience

    I never took into account how many buyers have experience themselves. Doh!

  • I duplicate my wishlist in a spreadsheet that sets up a table of what the price would be at different discounts.  Then I evaluate what I'd be willing to pay and highlight the lowest discount I'll spring for for each item.

    At this point, almost everything falls under the 'that would be nice' category instead of the 'I Need This' category, so there's few things I'm willing so spend more than $6 for.  Accordingly, most things wait a long time for a 75% or 80% off sale. (Though the gift card % discount can help with this).  If it's something I need sooner, I'll pay more for it.

    ATM, of the 183 on my list that's the two dForce Master Presets, Oso Fur Shaders, and Helix Tau Outfit.  I'll take them at about 65% off.

    The extra discount on featured artists with purchase of any new releaser in the Beauty of Asia sale is not working. It states it works with any new release and yesterday it was working with any new release. But now it is only working with the new releases in the Beauty of asia sale. Can this please be fixed?

    Thanks

    I have respect for all of them. Just because someone makes it look easy, doesn't mean it's easy to do. Thank goodness for all the variety of artists who each do these things.

    Is it just me, or has Daz raised its prices recently? I know they have to eat, too, but its getting awfully expensive to shop at the store. Even with today's sale discount, the stock prices are so high that the discount isn't really adding to as much as I'd like. I may have to pass on this sale.

    Yep. And, as I pointed out earlier in this thread, discounts have been steadily going down. So I'm spending a LOT less here these days, and come July, my spending may drop to zero online (not just here) because I'm an Australian, and on July 1st, the Australian government is going to tax almost everything bought online, anywhere, by ten percent. Unfortunate.
