Non-complaint:  After three weeks or more of the temperature hovering between 30 and 40 24/7, it has finally risen to 50F today at noon.  Yea! smiley

Meanwhile, in the southwest, Phoenix tied a record. The fourth earliest day to hit 100ºF. This does not bode well for the (seeming) eternity between now and November (the "new" time when we can expect to average below 100º). Complaint: power bill will now triple; no DAZ until Christmas. At least when it's cold, it costs little (other than the original outlay) to put on a coat or sweater.

Complaint:  I've read the morning's news and I think I'm going to go out and buy a 100 pound bag of rice, find a place deep in the woods to dig a big pit, cover it over with boards and dirt and go live in it until the world comes to its senses.

I tried to get my art printed at Walmart.  They said she was naked.  She wasn't even close to naked.  Skimpy maybe, Naked NO!  They wanted to take my art to the back to shred it.  I said can you rip it right here infront of me, that is my art, if I can't have it on my own wall, I want to make sure no one else can either.  She ripped it a couple of times for me.  I asked myself if I wanted to stick to art with less revealing clothes.  I decided I'd rather make what pleased me and never give the Walmart Printshop a dime or consider their ethics when making art.

“Nothin’ in sight, partner,” reported Cap’n Bill, shading his eyes with his hand; “so we’ll have to stay here for a time, anyhow. It isn’t a bad place, Trot, by any means.”

“That’s all you know about it!” broke in the little man. "The trees are altogether too green and the rocks are harder than they ought to be. I find the sand very grainy and the water dreadfully wet.   Every breeze makes a draught and the sun shines in the daytime, when there’s no need of it, and disappears just as soon as it begins to get dark. If you remain here you’ll find the island very unsatisfactory."

Trot turned to look at him, and her sweet face was grave and curious.

“I wonder who you are,” she said.

“My name is Pessim,” said he, with an air of pride. “I’m called the Observer.”

Is that the same free Visual Studio 2017 as I downloaded to make my own software?

...do you have any social agencies that do pickups?  We have a couple here in Portland.  Do you know someone with a vehicle who can assist you (what about the co-worker with the truck?).  All that stuff will otherwise end up in a landfill and electronics tend to use toxic materials/components.

If I remember Visual Basic (haven't used it since 2005), it's mainly event driven. So you put your piece of code in the click handler of a button on a form. Add a label to the form to report your results in, and you have the basic functionality.

I have not used Visual basics in some time, but I did download it recently to play with but have not done so.

Ping is not dependable, however.  There are several conditions that may give a false status.  For example, the ping port on the target server may be turned off.  that's just one example.  Why do you need to do this?  There is probably network monitoring software that is much more reliable.

Time, time time, see what's become of me
While I looked around for my possibilities

I was so hard to please
    Don't look around
    The leaves are brown
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

    Hear the Salvation Army band
Down by the riverside's, there's bound to be a better ride
    Than what you've got planned

Carry your cup in your hand
    And look around
    Leaves are brown, now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

Hang on to your hopes, my friend
That's an easy thing to say
But if your hopes should pass away
Simply pretend that you can build them again
    Look around
    The grass is high
    The fields are ripe
It's the springtime of my life

    Seasons change with the scenery
    Weaving time in a tapestry
Won't you stop and remember me
    At any convenient time?
Funny how my memory skips while looking over manuscripts
    Of unpublished rhyme
    Drinking my vodka and lime

    I look around
    Leaves are brown, now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
    Look around
    Leaves are brown
There's a patch of snow on the ground
