Well if you mistake DAZ Studio users absense from the forums or absense of complaints or other such business metrics as equivalent as not caring that is a big mistake.

I don't underestimate them at all, nonesuch00.  It's just that they're not, as a rule, the people who throw their opinions around in forums.  However, they'll be heard loud and clear, at a company level, when Daz5 turns out to be monthly subscription and no longer free  devil

Hmm...well that's pretty much already the case if you don't want to pay excessive prices for new content. I will still look forward to DAZ Studio 5, but now Blender 2.8 is becoming more exciting.

I wondered and still wonder about having so few new characters for G8.
Due to that I got the idea that there is something going on in the background, which let PAs hold back their content, my educated guess was it will be Daz Studio 5.
So I'd put my bet on: Soon™ :-)

You'll probably lose that bet ;) If G8 was tied that way to a new version of studio, the base would have never released before then.

No, he means the DAZ "Soon" which means: "Do not hold your breath." :)

G3 is still so viable due to the textures being the same,

I'd flag that as a guess, you've made it a statement of fact which gets treated a brutal hammer. :)

I know people have been clammoring for updates to Daz's other softwares and Hexagon has had an update in beta forever now... perhaps their mind blowing "something big" is an update to all these softwares as they are combined into a single software....

I like the free wishlist thought better :P

I realize that's facetious, but really a program that contains the best features of Carrara and DAZ, as the premier content-creation tool for DAZ and Genesis through Genesis 8+, would be truly mind-blowing. Imagine the ability to go into a morph-design "room" and create whatever morphs you need without ever having to export/import anything.

I'm hoping for animation improvements and a bridge to Blender so we'll be able to use Eevee for near-realtime rendering, which would completely obviate iClone.

...a solid stable 64 bit polygon modelling programme with a clean easy to use UI, tool palates, sculptng tools, good UV mapping tools, and two way bridge to Daz Studio would be totally mind blowing.

Isn't that Blender (without the bridge)?

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 42,159
...umm no. Besides not having a two way bridge to Daz, Blender's UI doesn't quite fit the "clean easy to use" requirement.

I really want to be able to stay within Daz for everything.  If it means paying a subscription, no problem, but it needs to have at least the following features:

    1.  reliable .bvh and .fbx import for mocap for all figures.

    2.  a plugin system with plugins for particle effects, hair simulation, dynamics, etc..

    3.  a full featured renderer.

    4.  a camera tracking system to allow post integration with live scenes in a video editor.

    5.  renderfarm support.

Getting these features will make me a customer for life.

Here is a feature request I thought should be very obious the abiltiy to attach clothes to geoschells. Think about it you offset the geoschell off the skin and there will be less pokethru.

...makes sense and also could help with layering as you could fit clothing to the main figure and geo shells.

Also a basic set of underwear and stockings for geoschell. Geoshell underwear does not have poketru and if fits like skin. I think all future underwear should be geoshell. I would also like geoshell have the ability to use Dformers on geoshell independent of what happens to geometery fo main figure.

I'm starting to lose faith that we'll ever see any serious updates to Daz Studio but I'll bet you my last dollar that we'll have a Genesis 9 sometime in the next 2 years.

Daz did hint at something big comming later this year. When I read that I honestly thought Studio 5.

I did at first, but then the Hivewire Animals announcement came along... Maybe that was the "big thing" they were hinting at, or at least a part of it.

Later this year means the fall and the Hivewire announcement isnt big enough as they said some of the things planned were gonna blow our minds

Maybe we will FINALLY get a built in dynamics engine for clothing and hair.. that would be pretty big.

For clothing there is all ready a good one, marvelous designer (best you can have momently). Only the dynamics be needed to coded in dazstudio.

DAZ said there were big things coming in second half of 2017, but they never said a word about it being linked to DS5...

Whereas, I would wave byebye to Daz.

If the subscription were the same cost as my Platinum Club does anyway and comes with free content like it does now but better because all the users are doing it, then yeah. I am game.

  • LeanaLeana Posts: 13,031

Nope, sorry, not for me. I'm not interested at all in a model where I can't use the software anymore the day I stop paying the subscription....

Me too. For one thing, having spent a small fortune on content here I'd feel I'd been misled if I were suddenly charged for the software that uses it all when this was never stated at the time of purchase and for another, time being money, I've always felt that the lack of anything much in the way of documentation is the price we already pay for the software. It takes time and research across a million places from the forum to Youtube to work it all out and even then there's always something new to learn. Admittedly, it can feel quite satisfying to have got to grips with a relatively well-hidden DS feature, but it can be a lengthy and frustrating process at times too, leaving you wondering if that time might be better spent doing something else. I certainly wouldn't be hanging around long enough to wonder if my money might be better spent elsewhere as well.

I might consider a monthly sub if they removed the 3d game and 3d print restrictions because at least then I would have a better chance of making the money needed to buy more content.

Let's not get too hung-up on a purely hypothetical situation.

It's also out of my price range but a BUILT IN one for DAZ Studio is what I was referring too.
