...well after shoppng around a bit, found local service provider which has has a very high satisfaction rating (twice that of Comcast or CentryLink, the two majors here). For 59$ a month (no activation feem no contract)I can get 100 MB/s service. 21$ less than Comcast's special "deal" 1 year contract for the same speed that will go up to probably 99$ (or more) when it expires. They also do serve my area and knw the building I am in.. This would be a single device connection. To connect multiple systems I would need to get a dual band router, but that is a one time expenditure.of around 100$ or less (don't need multiple room/floor coverage) instead of 132$ a year to rent one (which will probably go up in cost well).
Morning. Slate grey sky giving up some sweet smelling rain. Day off today, is big horse race day so we get a holiday locally, seems to be a peculiar Melbourne thing the rest of the country complains about.Guess they could have the day off as well if they want :)
...interesting, a holiday for a sporting event. Here we only get the traditional seasonal/national ones If you are a public employee teacher, in school, or work in a bank, you get a few extra days a year for what are called "federal holidays" (usually on a Monday).
Being retired and living alone, holidays are pretty "meh" as businesses are closed and the transit system operates on Sunday schedules.
Ugh this is excruciating, I can't enter more than a couple words without everything freezing up for several moments, the cursor disappearing, or getting a "Not Responding" error. Have to endure three more days of this. Not even bothering with any "Show Your Renders" threads as they take forever to load or the spell check here as it can take up to ten minutes to find any errors, so please excuse the typos.
Umm, that would be 100 mb/s. It is megabits, not MegaBytes. When I had 150 from Comcast/Xfinity, I would routinely get real speeds ranging from 750KB/s to 5 or 6MB/s. Now, with Fios 100/100, it's so fast you can't blink! I routinely download a 30MB file and it's down in 1 second! I've seen reported speeds of 90 MB/s! I almost had to pinch myself!
Of course, it always depends on the sending server. Some of them just aren't that fast to begin with.

Video calls and huge Pdf fles seem to be the bandwidth killers for me :)
they could have picked 9 day with better weather for the horse racing, is real chilly from a gusting south wind right now :)

i luv when they make it for 3 ane 8
eating up my greenbeans. then dessert! or desert.
Only in the low 40's today with rain. With the wind it was pretty damn cold. We are looking at low 30's by the end of the week getting down to the teens at night. I really hate winter. Yeah, snow is pretty to "look" at, but only look. My body doesn't like the cold and damp. The arthritis in every one of my joints flares up not including my back issues that are weather sensitive.
Lucky for us our winters are nowhere near as cold as yours, I usually wear one of these working outdoors to keep out the wind at night. Arthritis oh noes * hugs* :)
...ummm it is megabytes. I talked to them directly and as I mentioned they have a very excellent customer rating.
Because the sales rep told you so? Not even full fiber gives you that as a base speed! If you look at the specs I'm sure you'll see megabits per second. What is the name of the service?

...OK so just got another bombshell. As I was out today I received a message that the people who have the wireless plan I have been on are going to close the entire account because they cannot afford it (It was a 4 phone contract and since nobody else at the house needed the last phone, I got it and paid for the device). So tomorrow, I have to go down to the office and set up my own account (yet another expense for my very limited income). I need to keep it active as for one, all my contacts are there and second, our transit system has an app that allows you to load tickets on the phone and use it for boarding buses and trams, way simpler and more elegant than having to find a ticket/pass outlet or use cash fares. Hoping I can find a low cost plan as I will have separate Net service, don't get or make a lot of calls, and really not into texting.
Check into Consumer Cellular. Great rates and no contract. And if you are a member of AARP you get a discount.
If they service your area and you go with them, tell them I recommended them to you. I'd get a credit to my account.

...it is a local one that has extremely high customer satisfaction ratings. Like I mentioned their satisfaction ratings are more than double what Comcast's or CenturyLink's arre (5 Stars vs. 1.5 to 2). All they provide is net access, no phone or television service.
....not sure we have them out here and the phone's sim chip is propriatary to the company it was purchased from. If I have to change carriers, I lose all the unused fares I have on the one I've been using as well as all my contact info and my current number.
From what I've seen on their site, AARP is focused more on affluent retirees instead of people like myself who are eeking out an existence just on Social Security. They promote 5,000$ cruises and vacation packages that would take 5 years worth of benefits to pay for, and retireing to cities with living costs that are far more than what my monthly benefit could support.
Yeah, don't get me started on AARP. I really appreciate getting their magazine each month with a big cover story from some famous movie star showing how much better their retirement is than mine.
Andl I love those "Round the World" cruises they offer. Just makes my day!
Don't get me wrong, I'll take their 5% discount at places I don't go. And if I show the AARP card at an Outback Steakhouse when on one of my infrequent mini-adventures I save enough to give a mediocre tip to the waitress. And if I actually go somewhere and have to stay in a hotel I get a discount, which is essentially the same discount I could get (and often do) by booking through some website like "Orbitz". And I'm glad there are apparently hoards of ancient people fighting the powers that be to keep them from eliminating my Social Security. But I wish the magazine would just once have an article on the front cover featuring some poor 70 year old overweight schmuck on a very limited fixed budget with essentially no savings, lame from arthritus, living alone with frequent cardiac and urinary doctor appointments and a 15 year old car that needs to be maintained because he can't afford even a cheap used car and it has to last him the rest of his life (that based on family history, could be as much as 15 more years) because there is no useful public transit in his area. Yep, I'd like to see that article.
Life sucks, then you die. But as long as you like classical music (or other life affirming activity) it's all worth it!

Tom Paxton wrote a great song about Modern Maturity some years back. In his intro, he used to talk about the people in the magazine, who he said looked like 25-year-old models wearing white wigs.
Great outfit! Reminds me of the OhLaLa outfit I had bought from LadyLittleFox when she was at RDNA. Very similar.
Funny thing is... I remmeber seeing a notification that it got transferred here, yet now, when I go look for it in my online library or in Lady LittleFox's product list, I'm not seeing it. I wonder if it got pulled for some reason?
I get 200 mb/s service with our cable internet. I can get up to 500 mb/s for a business plan.
OK, you have all had your rants, can we now remember the ToS and steer away from the Political debate and bring this thread back to it's normal, happy, discussion. Thanks.
Edited to correct typos.
Nice! I want a day off for armadillo races!
Do we get a poem about the armadillo races as well?
Well, that blows, and not in a good way... :(
What in the world is that? Is it a real thing? I've heard of stranger which is why I'm not sure and asking.
Yes it is real: https://www.sparksagency.com/Armadillo_Racing.html

Well Heck, I thought AARP mag had pinups of grannies! I don't think I'll join any more. I was looking forward to articles like "No Viagra? New uses for popcicle sticks and duct tape", you know, useful stuff.
Maybe I'll start a magazine called "Old Age Sucks" and cover things like "20 ways to survive if you're out of Depends" and "How to catch and cook neighborhood pets". And granny centerfolds!!!!
If you want mega bites per second, come here in the Summer, the mosquitos are terrifying. You could even suffer a terror bite!!!!
lol
