There was a total eclipse visible from here (UK) in 1999, in theory at least, because it was clouded out. Just looked like an exceptionally dull day!

It was Spooky where I was watching it, as we were in a park, and all the birds went quiet, song birds, water birds et al.

People didn't do the same though

Hopefully Kyoto Kid hasn't melted in this heat. I assume Portland is hotter than Eugene, as it has been all week. According to Weather Underground, it's already 95º F here, and well on it's way to triple digits. My complaint? I really, really want to play with DS and some of my new stuff, but the beast will make the room unbearable. It's already pushing 82º... and the only air conditioner is in the living room.
    sad

LOL... That's pretty much how I've felt the last couple of days. It's supposed to cool down now, only mid to upper 90s... Looks like the foil sunblock stays in the office window another week, or three!

In the Vancouver area we've got a continued heat advisory and an air-quality advisory from the smoke from the forest fires in BC (news just said it's the second-worst year for fires on record).  It's like someone Photoshopped our end of the world to be a hazy, apocalyptic orange.  Only good thing about the heavy smoke is it's keeping the temperature down a couple of degrees from what they'd originally predicted for this week.

Last few days here have been quite nice.  Yesterday afternoon it got up to 80F and this morning was sunny & hot and muggy.  Got up to low 80's then just 10 minutes ago a big black cloud rolled overhead and the temperature dropped about 5 degrees instantly, rain came like buckets, trees twisted and whipped majorly around for about 5 minutes, and now its just a breezy, rainy afternoon.  Guess a front passed by! indecision  Hope it clears up for the weekend.

It'll be a busy weekend around here.  Rodeo in Gerry, NY (8 miles), "Ellington Town Picnic" in Ellington, NY (5 miles), "Sherman Days" in Sherman, NY (20 miles),  a couple of good household auctions this weekend, "Cattaraugus County Fair" in the next county eastward(20 miles).  Can't decide where I'm going to go to get a BBQ dinner or a classic hotdog.  Decisions, decisions... surprise

We've had a few fires in our area, too, also keeping the temps down. We reached 103º on Wed. and 102º yesterday, when it was originally predicted for 106º-108º both days. We're thankful the heat stayed down, but the air quality is hard on folks, lik hubby and his asthma. It hasn't been so hazy here as there, but moon was quite orange-red late Wed, early Thur. from all the smoke in the air. What we really need is good air cleansing rain up and down the I-5 corridor. And no more fires.

In the name of progress... Sorry to hear your space is getting smaller, and I've been there, where you lose a quiet space and get thrown into a busy, noisy space. I hope retirement isn't too far off for you.

Doing a little late-night grilling.  Steaks and salmon from Sam's Club.  I'm gonna eat GOOD this weekend!  laugh

I don't know what I did, but the salmon came out sort of glazed.  Almost like candy.  Yummy, yummy candy.  Like a delicious grown-up's version of "Swedish Fish".  One that doesn't remove crowns or fillings.

...what is really ironic, I live in the Pacific Northwest but am allergic to salmon.   That's like living in Wisconsin and being lactose intolerant.

Or living in Florida with delicious, sweet, perfect grapefruit on a tree in your backyard, yet not permitted to have grapefruit because of your medications. frown

Until the medications restriction, the grapefruit in my back yard thing was so wonderful,  just toddle out in my bare feet in the morning, reach up, squeeze a few to find the best one today and pick it.  Mmmmm, loaded with juice, sweet, tender, tasty.  No sugar needed.  Mmmmmm yes

...yeah on those same meds myself, and nothing is more refreshing in hot weather, like we've been having here, than a big tall glass of grapfruit juice.

Yea, budget can be stretched enough this summer to include one more ROAD TRIP!  Yea! smiley  Weather permitting I'm going to drive the 725 miles to Columbia South Carolina to see the solar eclipse.  Never seen a total one, but I'm not going to stick around for the next one, so this is probably my last chance unless I win the lottery soon.  If weather is not permitting then I've decided to make about a 300 mile trip to way upstate NY to see Boldt Castle in the St. Lawrence River instead.  I was there 50 years ago but they say it's been renovated and more complete.

I've already made my hotel reservations for the South Carolina trip and I made sure that they are refundable (up to 48 hours before).

....I wonder if you are using the same site I do which also allows cancellation up to 48 hours before you have to check in.

Yeah going to get together with some friends to drive to the other side of the Cascades to avoid any morning clouds that can occur. here in the western valleys.

    sad

...yeah,  was 103° on Wednesday and 105° yesterday here, and that was out at the airport.  Some places in town here reached 109° - 110° on both days.  Was actually hotter here yesterday than in Las Vegas, Palm  Springs, Deth Valley, and Phoenix.

Had to do a lot of running around in the heat yesterday.  However was totally worth it as I finaly have a new place to live and will be moving stuff in over the next several days. The one sad part, I left my trusty old hat on the tram in all my rushing around town.  After I got done with all my errands headed to the local pub for a while for some well deserved time in AC (actually cost me less than going to a cinema).

Lady with a baseball bat a bit intimidating tho. surprise

Not if she's standing next to me when someone is pounding on the door at 0300!
    Gotta love tough women.

A baseball bat is for a kids' game.  At 0300, I don't play kid's games.  I'd have something a lot faster, louder, and more "OMG I'm leaking and it really really hurts" at hand.  If there's a lady with me, she'll optionally bring her own armory with her.  Yep, gotta love tough women!  If she's travelling light, then all she'll need to do is keep her ear protection in and her head down.  Boom!

...you never met up with my Shadowrun character who was an ex baseball player who was totally amped up on bio and cyber augmentations.  In her hands, her titanium bat was a deady weapon and she could easily take the oppos down with her beanball fastball.

Remember that scene from the Untouchables?

(in RL, Ex Mariners pitcher Randy Johnson takes out bird with pitch)

Baseball is a lot more dangerous than some think.

Dog on the field...it's the pitcher!  Poor birdie.  Yes, I know it wasn't his fault.  How the hell do these guys throw a ball faster than we're allowed to drive our cars?   surprise

    Dana

...Randy Johnson's fastest pitch was clocked at 108 mph.  It was said that with his arm span and height, the ball was ten feet closer to the plate when it left his hand.  He also had one heck of an "evil eye" when looking at the batter from over the finger tips of his glove.  He was a true throwback.

....yeah that smoke made it all the way down here, creating a extremely thick haze and apocalyptic looking sunsets and over the last three days.  Could even see it in the streetlights and auto headlamps at night.

Yeah, the days when bands only used just their own amps and maybe the house PA system instead fo the "mega wall of sound" one encounters at most concerts today.  Same went for the Beatles and the Stones when I saw them back then.

...well my spam attack on the thread is finally finished (had a couple pages to catch up on as I was exhausted after yesterday and didn't get up until about noon today).

Finally "cooled down" into the mid 90s today, but will be there for the rest of the week.with possibly 100° again by midweek.

Reinstalled Vray on my laptop, took a stab at re-rendering that raptor scene (as a still image) in it.

Had to redo a large number of materials due to incompatible material systems.

Realized just what an ungodly mess the scene was, as well as how little I understand Vray's material system.

Decided to just render it out as it was rather than try and continue sorting through the mess of a scene.  Finished pretty quick though,  only took fourteen minutes.

Got coupons in the male from my favourite grocery store.  One coupon is for one free egg which I do not need.  I am thinking of getting the egg and give it to my mum. I rarely eat eggs but my mum has a lot of breakfasts with eggs.  Maybe five or so times a week but I do not eat eggs at home.  Just a rare breakfast burrito from work occasionally.

Why do smart phones not know when I use the wrong word and replace it with the word I really mean?
