Aaaaaaaaahhh 67 hours,  the prepass calculations are almost done,  and I see that it's set to render only up to frame 48 - cutting out the last 12 frames.

I guess that I can just re-render those last twelve frames after this one is finished then stitch the two together later, but oh mann... .That I didn't notice this until now xD

Coulda been worse. I could have forgotten to disable Frame Skipping which would have meant a complete re-render.  Just forgetting to render the whole thing is easily fixable, and twelve frames will be much faster than forty.

A miracle! I was so tired that I finally managed to catch a nap in my new apartment. Might have something to do with hellish temperatures, I'm pretty sure I had around 86F in the room and literally zero strength to do anything. Now I can at least crawl to kitchen to make myself lunch for tomorrow's day at work. Another day in hellish temperatures *sigh*

C4D R19 just came out. Despite still runnign R13 I don't think I'm missing out on too much - other than some plugins not using R13 anymore (Not that I can afford most of them but still). Well, there was some cool new features since then, but in R19 specifically there wasn't much that caught my attention. That Voronoi Fracturing modifier looked pretty sweet though.

Doesn't look like BodyPaint or Thinking Particles are going to ever be updated,  but with X-Particles available the latter doesn't really matter anymore, and it looks like most people are using MARI or 3DCoat/zBrush for their texturing now instead of BodyPaint.

I've long since passed the point where I can get a discount on upgrades, so if I ever wanted the cloth/dynamics and whatnot I'd need to save up $4,000 for a R18/19 Studio license... Or figure out how to work Blender and go around moving between the two programs as needed.  I don't know which is worse.

...about to get "too hot in the kitchen" here.  93° for today 100° Tomorrow 107° Wednesday (ties the all time record high for Portland) and a blistering 109° forecast for Thursday, and 102° on Friday.   If Thursdays' prediction holds true we will set a new all time historic high temperature for the city.

...with 4,000$ I could build one heck of a nice workstation.  As much as I am not a big fan of Blender's UI, being that you have worked with more "robust" software, maybe Blender wouldn't be much of a stretch.

Doubtful.  Cinema4D's interface is one of the easiest I've ever worked with,  and the fact they have a "Right click on this to bring up its Help menu" for just about every knob, dial, function, input field, and slider in the program.  I forget what something does, just right click on it and it pops open the entry on it in the help window. Back when I got R11 Prime for 50% off for owning Carrara 6 Pro, it didn't take long for me to start moving around and doing stuff with it. Very easy to pick up on... As far as 3D programs like this go that is.

Zbrush is another story,  but it's still a far cry from Blender's tangled mess of an interface IMO. That being said, I'd probably be better off braving Blender's interface than saving up for a new program. Besides, it's only one part of the software I'd be looking at and that's the cloth/dynamics part (Though I reaaaally loved playing with C4D's in the R16 demo ;v; )

*flops on face* Now that seriously sounds like kitchen oven temperatures. Hope it won't be as serious here, but this whole week is supposed to be hot, maybe hottest this summer. Now off to hunt for some ice for my mineral water *sigh*

...well Blender is also "right click" oriented, but that is about the only similarity.  I do agree, it's keyboard driven UI is a real pain in the bum, particularly if like myself, you have a lifetime of traditional art technique under your belt.  A pointer driven UI is seems more natural in "feel", and  tablets even more so (however I cannot hold the stylus steady for long and applying more pressure is physically painful which is why I had to give up painting and drawing).

I just can't fathom dropping 4,000$ on a single software licence.  I'd need to win tonight's lotto or do a Go Fund Me.

The reason I know Gimp so well is I couldn't afford the 700$ for Photoshop when Adobe still sold perpetual licences.

Well the right click thing is only for bringing up the Help function for the most part.  Plus, the UI is just... Less cluttered. More intuitive and not as confusing.  Blender, Maya, Max... They all just are so confusing, and it feels like the program is actively fighting back against you and unwilling to be 'used'. Blender especially it just feels like stuff is thrown in without regard to how long it'd take to dig through the numerous menus just to find a simple function,  or expect you to be able to remember the five key shortcut to bring it up.

Looking back, it's hard to imagine I had spent so much on these programs and stuff, but I did have a job back then which I don't have anymore (place closed down) so there is that.  I never did like the idea of spending a lot on a program that seemed to fight against me every minute I used it (Maya and Max) and Max's upgrading policies (at the time, unless things have changed) made me especially unwilling to consider buying it.  C4D just felt so natural to me, and it helped that at the time they offered a small discount to owners of Carrara Pro and coupled with the 50% off sale they had at the time...........

I still haven't moved on from Photoshop CS5,  no real need to. I've been considering subscribing for After Effects, the $20 a month isn't really all that bad for one program like that, but I'm still holding off since I'm still not sure I'll end up wandering away from 3D again like I did before. The monthly cost would end up being pointless if I never really use the program.

Downloaded the PLE's for Vue xStream and Plant Factory.  Trying to figure out Vue's always been a bit awkward for me, but trying to figure it out when running it as a plugin from within C4D's another beast alltogether. Feel that my computer's not really up to running two programs at once like that either.  But hey it's not time-limited or anything so I've got all the time in the world to figure it out.  Also grabbed the non-commercial edition of Nuke just because why not,  though I don't really see myself using it much nor actually buying it (Nice that they have a non-commercial edition now,  last I remember they only had a Trial version or something?)

Even better, it's not watermarked or time limited, and the 1920px limitation isn't a concern to me.  Though again, I don't really see myself getting it when After Effects is more affordable (and probably so much easier to get into).  Oh right, and apparently C4D and AE have very, very good relations with each other. The recent editions of After Effects even comes with a minuature version of C4D built right in.

...3DS Max has gone subscription only just like Photoshop CS did after version 6. Their montly subscription is something like 189$ or 1,495$ for a full year.

I have been messing around with the PLE version of Vue Infinite.

Sheesh.  I could technically afford that, but as a hobbyist I'd rather just buy once and be done with it. Especially since I often go long periods of time w/o using these programs (Which I'm trying to not do anymore; be more focused and dedicated 'n whatnot).  At least PS/AE is more affordable at $20 a month, but then again different applications and all that. Still not a program I'm really keen on using either way though.

I've yet to upgrade from Vue 10 Complete, largely in part to the afforementioned job loss and my frequent loss of attention / wandering off from things. It's not a loss of interest, just... I end up getting distracted and my train of thought is disrupted, and then every day that passes thereafter it becomes increasingly hard to get back into whatever I was doing. *shrugs*

As for what my job was... It was like a night shift at this group home my grandpa ran.  Since I was awake at night more often than the day, it was pretty easy for me. Dealing with the guys was a little annoying at times but it was alright. He ran a school for the group home and a tax service at the same time too. When the school and group home got closed, he started making arrangements to sell the house and move on down to the house we had over in the next valley. He still runs the tax service though from our house.

Anyways, I found some pretty neat stuff while helping clean out the storage and in the yard sale that followed,  and what didn't get sold got packed away n boxes.  That's when I found dis lil copy of Poser  -  apparently it was one of the things that got brought up from the school, and didn't get sold at the yard sale. I was helping clean around office and storage the other week when I found it, and it was just going to get tossed out otherwise.

I like the lil raptor that comes with it. He's cute.  The texture map / UV is sooo old and the rigging is kinda bad - it's awkward moving the legs, feet, and hands and the jaw doesn't close properly as it leaves a bit of the corner open - but I love the little guy all the same~

He packages it and sells it at flea market for pillow stuffing.

I have a kitchen-size garbage container almost full of dryer lint. The hubby puts it in a bag and takes it to the dump when it gets real full... How close are you to Oregon?

    Almost 3000 miles.
Pack it up in ziplock bags and sell it at a crafts fair!

78 hours and it finally starts rendering... And there's GI flickering :(

Oh well.  Not about to re-render over something like that, even if I will be tearing my hair out over that for a long time after this xD

You should have looked in the bottom box first!  Things are always in the last place you look.  So look there first.  But...ummm...perhaps that will change the outcome, because it will be the first place you look at that point.  Never mind.  cheeky

Perhaps the unfree minds (the ones attached to their universe) carry their Universe around with them.  So, if one even achieved a transuniversal migration and slipped into a Universe where things were always in the first place one looked, the local space might be corrupted to conform to the Universe carried with them.  How could they tell? devil

Morning. Gloomy grey and wintery cold this morning, a whole season of no rain leaving our garden brown around the edges as if it was the end of summer rather than nearly the start of spring :)

98 hours.  98 hours and it's finished rendering.  And for some reason, it's several levels WAY TOO DARK, and doesn't match up with what shows in the picture viewer in C4D.

Nnnnnnggh.  Trying to see if there's anything I can do about that, but I have no idea whatsoever why it's doing that. I am NOT re-rendering this though.

Opened it up in a video editor I have and pumped the Gamma up to 2.2.  Got it pretty close to what the render looked like, at the cost of kinda screwing up some of the shadows (The worst being under the couch in the center)
