Small complaint - Delivery of my main computer which is being repaired is being delayed and I won't get until tomorrow. But I want them to take their time to be sute it is right and for $75 they are charging me I'll wait.

Complaint  5 pm and still 109 F heat index.

    What's that in real degrees?

94 degrees F that because of the humidity etc feels like 109 degrees F.

There's a point where the humidity heat index calculation breaks down.  I believe it's when you see fish swim by. indecision

The other point where it breaks down is when it actually does hit 120ºF. No fish, no water, no relief. Planes are grounded (regional jets, anyway... the larger can go to 122º before they run out of lift). The folks in Qatar must have very long runways.

soo not on my bucketlist of placesto visit  mucho calor

Complaint:  I have an embarassment of opportunities for good music in the next 15 days and insufficient funds to attend them all. sad

This coming Tuesday is a Wagner night at Chautauqua.  "Die Valkyries", "Forest Murmers", "Rhein Journey" and "Siegfried's Funeral Music" I particularly want to hear the Funeral Music live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uka8ykFDw2U   The Chautauqua program for the evening is here: http://chq.org/calendar/eventdetail/3297/chautauqua-symphony-orchestra-very-wagner-from-valkyries-to-valhalla.

Then on Thursday the 27th it's another Tchaikovsky night.  First, it's his 1st Piano Concerto.  Pianist Lang Lang will be the guest soloist for the piano concerto. https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=d9ddlO1tJUs   yes(First movement @ 1:00),  second movement @ 23:40, third movement @ 31:50)  My favorite spots are at 15:30 and the finale of 1st movement and finale of 3rd movement.  Tchaikovsky was a fantastic finale-ist yes  The other piece that night, the 6th symphony (the Pathetique) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTckXeRfXAE is music of a tortured soul lost between despair and euphoria.  There are many descriptions of the meaning of his 6th symphony but the appellation "The Pathetique" about sums it up, simply described as "full of pathos".  In some places the dark moods sounds almost like early Rachmaninoff.  In other places it is serene beauty.

Finally, two days later on Saturday night the 29th,  the film "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Apprentice" is showing in the Amphitheater and the orchestra is doing the soundtrack live. cool

...OK finally some good news. Earlier this afternoon I received a call fro,  one of the low income places I was interested in.  The fellow I spoke with said if I could get there today and put an application inm the place was mine.  This is the apartment I really wanted as it is literally in the heart of the city . So I told him I was on my way immediately getting my stuff together (which included an application I already filed out) and headed to the bus stop.  As providence would have it I never waited for more than two minutes for every connection that  would get me there (Maybe a hidden message?).

Suffice to say, after I filled out some additional paperwork, I got a very good feeling

Good news. Definitely hope you get it

So stopped on the way home at my neighbourhood pub where the barman made me two classy drinks.

The first was a Gin Buck which is an old 1920s drink.  The gin in the drink was a pre- prohibition styled Gin that also involved herbal digestives, so totaly fitting.

The second is my ultimate favourite, a pre Prohibition style Whiskey Sour (that used egg whites) which I affectionately call it "The Drink".

...yeah a bit "drunkapated" tonight, but the situaion warranted it.

Sounds great!  I hope there are no hiccups!

    ...thanks everyone.

Got a call from the agency that is doing the background check, nothing scary, just needed a phone number of a previous landlord (who already said she'd give me a solid recommendation).  That was a lot quicker than I thought so I the decision may come a lot earlier than expected.  Will have real hardwired Net service again so no more of this wireless nonsense.

...BTW no hiccups and slept well last night, better than in a long while (and I don't think it was just ths drinks).

(BTWm the forum spell check must really hate wireless, taking a long time after activating it before it actually works.)

Yea! problem solved.  I just checked the ticket prices for the upcoming symphonies and found that this Tuesday is a "Community Night" at $20 instead of the usual $43.  Yea!  So I'm off to hear Wagner on Tuesday.  smiley  And I might be able to stretch my budget to include the Tchaikovsky night too.  Double yea!  The third night is the "Harry Potter".   I can skip that night though.  Curiously, they'll be charging extra for a limited number of "preferred seats" to "Harry Potter...". $73 instead of the normal $43.  Go figure.surprise  I guess they expect it to be sold out.  Well, they need to pay for that new Amphitheater somehow. indecision

Live cam on the Amphitheater http://chq.org/amp-cam  Can't see the show but if you're a people watcher...

decidinf new snack trays be better than a coffee table

if someone comes over to watch a dvd i only has lawn chairs

my living space is chaos, trying to absorb new monitor.  the long wall has the baseboard heating, doan want to put electronics near the heat

...ugh, electric baseboard heating, the most inefficient (unless you are the power utility) means to heat a room space.  In those cheaply built poorly insulated places, the heater units always seem to be located right beneath a large window that has only single pane glass and poor fitting metal frame.

...83° and sunny today, upper 70s to mid 80s for the next ten days.  No sign of the late July to early August heat wave we usually get, yet.

Been working on a submission for a challenge.  Need to take a break and get out for a while.

When I lived up North, I got ahold of this plastic material (I think it came in a roll) that would be stretched over each window space, attached right to the paint on the inside of the wall.  A brief pass with a hair dryer would shrink and seal it right up nice and tight.  It was REMARKABLE at keeping the heat in my unit and it never left a mark on the paint.  Mostly held on through the winter, with just a little bit pulling up in some of the corners by springtime.  Might not work well if you have cats.

...I've used it before.  It also sort of "muddies" up the view to the outside as well as covers the sill space (if you want a complete seal). Also it makes it difficult to air the place out periodically as you cannot open any windows without removing the film (and here in rainy damp Oregon winters, things can get to smelling rather dank and musty pretty quick).

True, not great if you have felines either as windows are their second favourite "sitting place" after boxes or in front of your computer display while you are working

Arghhh.... I just realized that in my first post about the upcoming concerts I said "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Apprentice".  Duh!  It's "... Sorcerer's Stone" not "apprentice". I guess I had Dukas on the brain.

Take my advice, don't listen to anyone who says you should clear the cache or reinstall the OS.  Although rebooting with a dose of ECT can do wonders.

Big day in town today right outside my door. surprise  Something new.  "Summer in the Park" day.  They're gonna use the brand new covered picnic table pavilion just a couple hundred feet from my door.  There's going to be some sort of band (probably country music)  in the little band pavilion, and have some sort of concession doings too.  All this in the little park that was created just a few years ago that gets mowed and trimmed each year but sees perhaps 10 people using it during the year.indecision (I know because it's right outside my door cheeky)  Looks pretty though. yes  I guess I'll toddle over around 3:00 PM and see if anybody's selling cookies or brownies or hot dogs.  If it doesn't rain. no

But they'll never compete with the long running "Ellington Town Picnic" http://www.ellingtontownpicnic.org/  in that tiny town just 5 miles north of me (its about half the size of my town and we only have 500 people surprise).  Please dismiss the site's political popup and the ignore the clumsy website design, but it does have some old photos of that tiny town's 112 year old event. (old for the US).  Ah, fond memories at the Ellington Town Picnic.  I won the talent contest in 1960 when I was 12.  (played "Fur Elise" on the piano)  Aw, shucks folks. blush  Prize was $12.  A not insignificant amount in 1960 for a 12 year old! cool

Daz 3D Inc. gave me a coupon for Victoria 8.  I wish I could buy her but I need to buy a new internal SATA hard drive.

I wish I could get her too but I would need to get an external HDD also.

Yeah, apparently the people who are responsible for movie titles didn't think American audiences were sophisticated enough to grasp the connection to the story of the Philosopher's Stone that turned base metals into gold that was the goal of Medieval alchemists.  But any idiot in America can grasp the concept of sorcerer.  As George Carlin said: "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."
