More historical stuff, especially for ordinary working class people. With very few exceptions, everyone in historical Dazland seems to be either moneyed or enslaved.

And I'd still like a versatile set of curtains/drapes and different types of blinds for all our bare windows please :)

I would add another vote for historical scenes/props and clothing. The only period of history which is currently well covered is medieval and that is down to the fact that for many medieval and fantasy is the same thing. I'd like to see more stuff from the Greek, Roman, Renaissance, and Victorian periods.

  • BurstAngelBurstAngel Posts: 768

No more greek or roman stuff. I think that is one historical era that is well covered, egyptian as well. Every male bundle seem to have one greco roman fantasy outfit and I'm kind of sick of it. Barabarian outfits for both male and females are pretty over done in my opinion. Love to see more 20th century vintage outfits.

  • 'Real world' clothing from late 20th century on, any era really, I suppose.

Skimp wear has really been done to death for so long!

Another vote for ordinary, every-day wear. Preferably clothes that open and have undress morphs. But the biggest hope is for an improvement in the technology so that we can have multiple collision surfaces - so that a dress can collide with the underlying skin and also underwear. Even better: a dress can collide with a chair too.

Islander / polynesian / tribal clothing. I've been wanting a reasonable grass skirt for quite a long time.

Ohh...I forgot about native american and polynesian clothing until someone mentioned them. +1! yes

This falls more under practical than genre, but more 'short/no heel' options for various outfits.  The content designers could include both a heeled and non heeled version of their shoes/boots in their packages, to keep both camps happy...

But on the Genre thing, more Kaiju/Giant Robot/Anime stuff.  We have a few anime characters (notably Aiko) and a few hit and miss items, but I feel like the genre as a whole is rather neglected.  (Read: more MASER trucks and similar items... laugh)

Sure, you can try to turn a bodysuit into a powered armor suit, but true powered armor suits are much more intricate than that.  And while he have a few examples in the Daz store, I'm not seeing a good cross section so far.

And I get that you can't exactly copy, say Mospeada/Cyclone armor, but there are a LOT of cool concepts in Anime that deserve some love. Say more Appleseed inspired stuff (thinking of Briareos/Landmate/Olympus hardware here)... or Miyazaki style anime inspired stuff (Laputa, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, etc. all kind of cross over with Steampunk, Porco Rosso is somewhat more reality based, but the seaplanes are cool designs), .Lots of untapped Daz potential in Anime, as it's such a broad genre...

Sure, Daz builds it's own 'narrative background' with the products in the library, like say the whole GIS product line, and I welcome more of this.

And yeah, more 'hard sci fi' and 'near future space/tech' stuff would be nice too.

Skimpware continues to be done to death.  Sure, sex sells, but some of us like/want more practical outfits too!

  • Sci-fi of the functional variety. Sexy is ok but not all the time. Really need day to day wear   Male clothing and uniforms. Less fantasy particularly Roman/Greek/medieval. All the bundles contain it and I just have no use for it.

functional super hero costumes not costumes that are cumbersome .

    undies and male skimpwear

+1 all of this especially the Everyday Sci Fi Stuff :D

What I'd like is modern (aka 1850 or later) that is drapable via dynamics to look good and realistc and has enough surfaces defined to easily retexture with a large library of correctly defined fabric PBR presets.

No matter if it is for G8 or not, my current library of clothing is big enough and of enough genre variety that I have no desire to buy a new variant that isn't going to be substantially better than what I could do with autofit or some other technique.

The last genre sets of clothing I need want are basically just superhero, pirate, Arabian, Indian, and some Edwardian and such but really I'll be buying those because of a 'collectors' type personality rather than any actual plans to use them in any future artwork on my part. Yes, there are some gaps in comprehensiveness of the genres already made in the DAZ Store but no gap that says to me: I must have this gap filled ASAP.

What is definately not interesting: fantasy warrior style armour - skimpwear or not. Vampirey and monster stuff. If those are still the top sellers fine, keep on keeping on, but I have not need of it. If I have any of that at all it's because it came in a Pro bundle with a regular character. It's like those cheap prizes they give away in Cracker Jack now, you don't even look at it.

Men's collars. This really is a problem area I think. Men's collars tend to look way flat or big . Ties that you can move around and aren't part of the shirt or jacket. Shoes that can be unlaced and aren't a single model so your character can undress.

Military  uniform that fits without cling wrap to the pecs and legs.

More clothing that fits in a boxy manner. If a person is wearing a hoodies it's going to look bulky. You won't see every curve. Clothing is frequently too clingy for realism.

For most of the products you need a lot of further other products to build a reasonable background, because the little sets are more or less flat. Thus for most of the possible camera perspectives you see a lot of free horizon.

    This:

Historical stuff does tend to get the short end of the stick.  Probably because people are more demanding that it look right than for fantasy stuff.  And there are so many cultures and times to choose from (personal preference: Europe Late 1600-early 1700... but then I'm running a 7th sea game.)

I would like to see some more Native American/First Nations clothing that isn't based on Plains tribes, though.

    and This:

Babys are absolutely neglected, either as morphs or with clothing.

A lot of the stuff labelled as Greek/Roman are nothing like what was actually worn back then, for example the dynamic toga is in fact a loin cloth, and does not look even remotely like a toga. Some more realistic options would be nice.

In addition there is not enough buildings of this era to create an authentic city scene. All we have are a few temples, and a few ruins, but very little ordinary homes and civil/military buildings.

I don't mind clever variations on what has been done, but also look for what hasn't been done.

Ideally I would like stuff specifically for VWD. So not too high poly, and parts welded (although not essential).

1930s New York city. We've got skyscrapers to build, tunnels to put under the Hudson, ships in harbor to load and unload, fruit and vegetable pushcarts to move through the streets and sell - and the men and women of the city need period-appropriate clothing for common laborers. And the sets. And the ancillary gear - steam cranes, steam shovels, hods and hod carrier poses, ditch diggers, foremen, frazzled supervisors fighting labor issues, budgets, and target dates.

Third-floor walk-up flats and boarding houses. Period vehicles, including trolleys and firetrucks. Fire and police uniforms.

DAZ could grab this as a theme for a future PC month - we've got the carnival, how about the working-man's environment to go with it?

Here's another vote for clothing that includes ripping/tearing modeling (as opposed to just transparency maps). Things that can be animated to split along the seams, have morphs that show stress when too much person is poured into not enough fabric, etc.

As far as genre's go, horror.

Actually, that does bring up the issue of torn and distressed clothing. I've gotten pretty good at faking ragged and torn outfits with a combination of transparency maps, new textures and double loads, but the convenience of actual modeled outfits is what keeps me using old V4 items like Evil Innocence's shipwreked series.

Horse 2 needs more armor, saddles and bridles with included poses for rider and hands grasping reins etc.

Never get tired of archer sets with included poses.

Small medieval rooms/indoor settings with cozy fireplaces, arched windows, table things like that.

*edit after searching further I found there are plenty of horse 2 riding poses so nevermind about that one. ;)

Period clothing to go with excellent sets that are available.  For example

     - the Salem set is great, but not a single period outfit to go with it. Even with kitbashing its a tricky period.
     - some excellent Edwardian outfits for women, but almost nothing for men - especially formal wear.

-almost every shirt collar for men is rubbish. Not all, but most. The collar isn't properly modelled, it doesn't stand up. Most shirts are modelled like soft knit polo shirts. For historical periods this is even more important, when collars were larger and stiffer.

    - the shoulders on male jackets and shirts tend to look like they have been inflated like windsocks. The patterns don't map well. The only bit of period male clothing I rate is the Grantham Hall suit, and it is day/leisure wear. A matching period evening wear as in Moulin Rouge/Toulouse Lautrec etc would be fantastic.

There are mid-Victorian female outfits, but no male outfits. One can just about bash Regency ... but not really. Think 1860 Civil War-ish period.

And so on. I kitbashed some Renaissance stuff recently and just about managed the female clothes, but the male stuff was crap. It does not stand inspection.

I find myself forced to use V4/M4 because so much later content bears no relation to any period of human history and appeals to a demographic that values skin.

    1) Definately, Genesis 8 BABY!  And some baby clothes, blankets, etc. - more than just a diaper, and stuff that can be used for multiple eras.

    2) Historical clothing - Renaissance through Victorian.  Clergy wear

    3) Ethnic clothing.

    4) MODULAR buildings, both interior and exterior.  Like Collective 3D's Create a Room - for medieval, sci-fi and contemporary.

Ah, LOL, spoken like someone which much experience using DAZ products and a big DAZ product inventory. Your qualms are very similar to my qualms and why I likely won't be buying much in the way of new clothing until the problems are repaired in the way clothing presents it's self on DAZ figures aka I am not keen to use d-formers, push modifiers, and morphs to insufficiently address clothing that doesn't look like it's draping naturally and restricts the poses you can use to just a few and the clothing still doesn't look right.

I would like to see more characters and clothing from India, Thailand, Vietnam, China, and Japan.  Both historial and modern.

I'd like some religious clothing, I do need a morphable rosary and it would be nice to see a priest cassock. Crosses and medieval crucifix that are non goth and celtic variety, and please, no nun festish stuff.

Historical, primarily Victorian and WWII era. Streets of Old London demands some good Sherlock Holmes era clothing, and there are way too many good WWII era tanks out there not to do some historical rendering. The Depression Era would be welcome, too, in the lines of nice suits for men (that actually fit), and everyday dresses for women. While we're on historical, that can cross over into fantasy. We have some splendid costumes for adventurers, soldiers, knights, elves, etc., but not much for the everyday folk who bring those stories to life: merchants, peasants, nobles, craftsmen, etc. I guess that would be basic, everyday Medieval wear.

EDIT: HA! I should have read the previous comments and just added my vote. It looks like historical wear is a common desire.

I think it actually carries more validity when multiple people suggest the same thing but supply different reasons.  Of course, in the end, we know that DAZ will mainly keep making more skankwear because that's what experience has proved will sell consistantly, but there are always a few PAs who make things because they want to make them and just need a little nudge.

Some cross-genre outfits for non-human figures would be a cool idea.

There are occassional fantasy outfits for fantasy non-human characters, but orcs, trolls, draconians, minotaurs, centaurs and even some dinosaurs and insectoid monsters would work just as well in starships and other sci-fi settings with the right outfits. Likewise, some of the sci-fi aliens sold here could do well with a few outfits that let them have their own versions of Grecco/Roman, Medieval and even Victorian cultures. Plus, we need more outfits even within their current genre.

  • More biblical era stuff, Jerusalem, Bethlaham stuff like that

I could always use more high-quality sets, props, and poses related to music. There's been a mini-resurgence in guitars/amps for sale here, which I think is a great trend. The guitars range from traditional to avant-garde. I'd like to see saxophones and vintage keyboards (like electric pianos) here, too. And more guitars besides Fender and Les Paul clones. So I guess the "genre" would cover the spectrum from retro to contemporary.

...I hear you on music. We do have some nice instruments in thw Melody Man series, however there still is not a nicely detailed concert hall grand piano on par with Ness' Harpsichord nor a pipe organ with an accurate keydesk and pedalboard (even the ones on Turbosquid fall short on the realism side). Also missing is orchestral percussion and accurate brass instruments.

Let me be the spokesperson for the silent majority and ask for more skimpwear.  ;)   What I'd like to see is more of the 'classic' skimpy fantasy wear like from Frazetta or Boris Vallejo paintings; gold pasties and jewels like Gareee's Martian Princess and the various Aery Soul body jewels. I don't think we need a whole lot more of half-practical fantasy wear though, the sort of outfit that could look perfectly normal minus the big cutout on the chest or abdomen. Those ought to have material zones that allow it to be skimpy or practical, widening it's potential customer appeal.

Well now that you mention it there is a pretty big catalogue of historical underwear that have never been made that should be made for some of this period historical clothing. With 3D getting more and more sophisticated more and more art stills and animations are being made with an eye towards authenticity of historical pieces so lots to create.

However, as skimpwear, period historical underwear is likely to leave a lot of people disappointed.
