I hear Tell You Been Lookin' Fer Me

I hear Tell You Been Lookin' Fer Me, by L'Adair

This is a mix of products I just picked up and some I've had for a long time. I have GTX 1080, and I still had to turn the two "supporting role" characters and their haie/wardrobe into props, and use the geometry tool to hide material zones that weren't in the image to render this with GPU. There are several ghost lights, and a lot of glass, too. Took more than a week to set this scene up, and about 24 hours to render. (Set to 16K samples, Max Time 0, Quality Off.) I could have stopped sooner, but the longer a dark image renders, the better the quality in the darkest areas. And it also made the face of the main "actor" lighter, showing  more detail. I also did several spot renders. Took out the Easy Smoke Iray, for example, and then put in different smoke using Ron's Detail Smoke brushes. All told, it took about eight days from concept to final image. Phew! But I'm happy with the final result.

nice work L"Adair, love the details. Is the guy at the door a bad guy leaving or a deputy coming in?

Neither. He's one of the men who were playing cards when "trouble" walked in the front door. (In their haste to leave, they knocked over a chair, spilled a glass of rot-gut whiskey—which is puddling on the floor under the table—and left behind a burning cigar. What a waste!) You're seeing the scene from the perspective of the man Archie is talking to.

    Thank you.

  • So, here's my Godzilla(foreground) vs Shin Godzilla! Shin is a heavily custom morphed morphed Dragon 3, with Eastern and Zilladreki morphs applied, as well as custom textures. Also a dino skull on the tail for the goofy head on its tail thing Shin has going on. Fun fact: My godzilla is 80 meters, while Shin is 118 meters.

This render was mainly just to show how well Stephanie 8's face lends itself to making unique looking characters, but the render turned out nice.
    So, here she is.

The recent discussion about MD7 got me thinking about what I can do with what I already have.

This isn't an amazing sweater, but it's ok, and I was able to make it with Carrara and VWD (and Daz Studio, of course). Also Instant meshes (which is free) to retopo.

I had originally intended on using Sculptris, but it was SO fussy about the mesh I couldn't ever manage to put it in my workflow and eventually gave up.

Total cost of the tools I DID use is $125 (sale price on Carrara), which is nicely less than the $500 for MD. Mind you, MD does have a load of bells and whistles and I'm sure this would have been trivial rather than taking me a few hours.

The figure is Logan shape, Brodie skin, Omri hair. Hand knits on the sweater.

I might try making a simple dress. Should be pretty trivial, really; dynamic extrude and so on.

Something that's buttoned or has seams or thick edges will be a little more challenging.

Lately I experiment a lot with converting older 3DL-only content for Iray.

Yikes! That pic I posted looks terrible on my computer at work. Looks like I need to get a colorimeter to fix my rendering workstation's screen colors. Something's out of whack.

It's very yellow here, but I don't know how it's supposed to look.

While it's not a Christmas season yet, I got inspired by a Christmas song called Christmas Behind the Window (title translated from Finnish to English).

Wow. And he's going to be released when? (Before or after his brother Sal...?) Love the vein on his forehead; makes him look even more real.

On the Drool-worthy scale of 0 (meh) to 10 (OMG) , I'd rate him an 11.

    Blade Runner

That is the origin of the inspiration, but also Deus Ex, Ghost in a Shell, etc.
